I did a test with Fraunces Variable in InDesign. There the behaviour is also unexpected. All variable settings are just not accepted as custom settings. Instead, when you try to use custom settings, they get immediately (re)set to "Black Italic". It indicates that Bobby's assumption is right: There is some technical issue with that font. Also, note that InDesign and especially Illustrator are very finicky when dealing with fonts that are not fully developed.

The rose highlighting usually indicates a missing font. Try Type menu > Find Font to possibly repair it.

I can reproduce what you reported on Windows OS. At first glance I do not like it as well, but I can imagine that it may be beneficial if one wants to show/hide/lock/target layers and objects just by using the keyboard.

Yes, it can be done in Illustrator. As already mentioned, obviously the Grain effect is used in your sample image. The effect is located in the Effect menu. Just draw some filled paths, apply the Grain effect and play a bit with it and its settings. You will see that it gets close to what you want to achieve as per your sample image. You may also fill your shapes with gradients and use some gaussian blur or feather effect and the like. Also, various opacity settings and blending modes may help (see Transparency panel).

Are you using a recent version of Illustrator? If so, you may want to have a look at the Unembed command in the Links panel flyout menu to extract and (re-)link all or individual embedded raster images in one go (as .psd or .tif files). It's pretty close to your suggestion, as far as I understand it.

So, in the meantime you are looking for a workaround to clean up the flyspots as fast as possibe, I suspect? It could be corrected with an action or even with a graphic style.

I can reproduce the issue even when drawing with a simple mouse without pressure sensitivity. Specifically, if the fidelity is set to (most) accurate in the Blob Brush Tool Options. Usually, it gets considerably better when the fidelity is set to default (middle of the slider) or smoother. Not sure if that would be a viable option for you.

Just in case you didn't already know: A very fast way to select (and then modify) all unlocked and visible strokes whose weights are smaller than 1.5 pt is to draw a stroked path P1, set its weight to 0.0001 pt, open the Magic Wand panel (double click the Magic Wand tool in the Tools panel), turn on the Stroke Weight checkbox and set the Tolerance to 1.4998 pt. Then take the Magic Wand tool and click on the very thin path P1. After that all paths with stroke weights smaller than 1.5 pt get immediately selected (unless you restrict the selection to the current layer (see Magic Wand panel flyout menu)).

An additional idea: If it is appropriate that all your stroke weights can be set to exactly 1.5 pt or higher, you can just turn off the "Scale Strokes and Effects" option in the Transform panel (menu) to prevent the stroke weights from decreasing / increasing when you scale them with the Selection tool, Scale tool or Free Transform tool.

An additional note: If you save your Illustrator document as .ai you can turn on the "Include Linked Files" checkbox in the Illustrator Options dialog to embed all linked files in one go. You then just have to close and reopen the document to get the version with the embedded files.

I haven't investigated the issue further so far, but I can reproduce it in your sample Illustrator file and even in a very simple test file. Odd. I seem to remember that the Paste Remembers Layers option has always had certain problems with nested layer structures.

If I were asked to create something similar that should be (1) precise, (2) legible and (3) pleasant, I would not use envelopes for this specific emblem shape. I would do it either manually by carefully rotating single letters or, if applicable, by using custom Art Brushes. Type on a Path may also be appropriate. Of course, you may think that's laborious and you may be right to think so, but it's a valid suggestion, probably.

I don't think there are any corrupted symbols. As far as I can see, this is just another strange behaviour in conjunction with the GPU preview. Does using the CPU preview (instead of GPU) in the View menu mitigate the issue when moving the group with the Selection tool? If not, can you try to move the group with the Free Transform tool and see what happens?

You may use less nested transparencies to simplify your drawing. See this sample Illustrator file (based on your example): Tree Symbols simplified Also, as already mentioned in one of your other threads, you may reconsider and rebuild your layer structures and don't use transparencies if it is not necessary to get the right colour interactions.
