You could link text frames in the same position on each page and fill the chain with multiple numbered paragraphs.   You could make a new InDesign document that is the size of the spread and place each page in the layout, recreating the spreads ,then add page numbers on the parent page.   You could export to PDF as spreads then use the Place MultipagePDF script to import the spreads and add page numbers on the parent page. ... What format is the supplied template in? Can you place the template in InDesign and use the guides there to position your text and art?   Likely the inner margins are just guidelines. Not that I can see. Odd, since there is an option for paragraph rules. Click on image for enlargement.   If you look carefully at the corners you will see the shading has sharp corners at the bottom but the rules do not.  It looks like you will need to create two (or maybe three) styles: one for paragraphs that don’t span column breaks, and one for those that do (or perhaps one for the paragraph at the bottom of the column and one for the paragraph at the top of the column. You will have to insert paragraph breaks where necessary and the alternate style.   Alternatively you can use paragraph rules instead of shading and turn on “Display Border if Paragraph Splits Across Frames/Columns,” which is what I did in the above example. ... If you have Pages you can enter formulas using LaTeX. Export as RTF. When you try to place the RTF file you will discover it is a folder with PDF files inside. If you are using lots of raster effects (e.g. blur, drop shadow, the Photoshop ones below the divider) those will be rendered, even for hidden objects and layers and even in Artwork view. You can speed them up by reducing the resolution in Effects > Document Raster Effect Settings.   If you import images from other files, make sure you place them as linked, not embedded. Do not paste.   Bonus: You can speed up saving and openeing your file by doing a Save As and turning off PDF Compatibility. The file will only be readable by Illustrator. Try a few itterations of offset path to get the first few outlines around the island to smooth out and eliminate the harbours, bays, and lagoons. Then use the outermost path to blend to a circle.
