Yout're saying it is because it is the scripts that I am runing inside of InDesign. I can live with that but I don't know why they doubled in running times over the last three InDesign upgrades. I will jsut keep dealing with it, if that is what I must do. Peter My InDesign document is 132,632 KB. The excel file that I am running the script on inside the InDesign file is 213 KB. I have four excel files inside my document. They are about the same size. Each time I make and edit one of the excel files with excel, I need to update the excel file in my InDesign document.Once it is updated in my document, then I must run three scripts on the excel file that I updated to manipulate the format a little for the InDesign document to reformat it. Once script tweaks the format just a little. This one does not take too long. I am not concerned about this one. The second script searches the excel file for phone numbers, email addresses, and url’s and makes them hyperlinks. This takes about two minutes. It used to take less than one minute. The third one searches the excel file for a certain character and replaces it. This takes almost 7 minutes. It used to take about three minutes or less. Everything has doubled in time. Then like I said exiting the document it seems to get sluggish and freeze up InDesign for about 20 seconds or more.   As I previously mentioned this will happen with InDesign being the only program open. I have checked with the task manager to verify this. I have noticed that InDesign does have multiple instances of something called “Adobe CEP HTML Engine” open, 30 instances. To answer a few questions that you all asked, Then I explain in more detail about my issue. I am running InDesign 18.1 x64. That is the latest version from what I can tell. My C: drive is a SSD 500 GB drive. My InDesign files are on my E: drive. That is a separate SSD 500 GB drive. Rishabh_Tiwari, you asked my Scratch Disk. I don't see where my Scratch Disk is inside of InDesign. I can't find it in Preferences. Do I need to set it up?   Now back to my explanation. I also thought that my computer should handle what I have, and it once did. First let me say this computer is for business and there are no games or junk on here. It is basically used with Word, Excel, and one of my genealogy programs.   I have been having these issues for a while now and have been dealing with it, but it has started annoying me too much now. It started after I did an upgrade to InDesign a long while back. Last time this happened I went in and reset my preferences and that helped. However, I tried this when it happened again a while back and it did not help. I also just did it the other day and it did not help.   These problems did not previously exist. I am using the same document and it has not increased that much in size. Here is what I am having trouble with InDesign. When I run scripts on my document it takes ten times longer to run than it previously used to take. This is very annoying.When I close my document in InDesign it takes a while for it to close and allow me access to open another document. What I mean by this is the document closes but the InDesign home page will not allow me to click on anything for a little bit. It is like the screen freezes for a little bit. This is only in InDesign because I can go to other open programs, and they are not frozen in the other programs. I know you are going to ask how many open programs I have when using InDesign. It is usually just an Excel file, an Illustrator file, my gmail, and sometime Photoshop. Here is a followup. I am sorry about the confusion. I was trying to export and inport IMDL files. I was also confused. I have just upgraded to the latest version of InDesign and it no longer opens the newest version of InDesign when I double click the file in explorer. It tries to open the file in the older version. That was why I was trying the import and export funtion until I realized what my issue was. I can't seem to make it open in the newest version of InDesign. I have to open it in the newest version and then navigate using the dropdown File-->Open and manually go to the file to open it.   ... View more

After messing with this for many hours. It appears that this does not seem to be an export issue, I think. I apologize for this. Let me explain what I am trying to do and the issue. I am taking a very old 8mm video that was converted to digital many years ago. I am trying to take the digital video and removed the bits of film that have the black line across the film that make it flutter. I have attached an image to show the black line that I am referring to. What I have done is imported the video it into Premiere Pro and spliced out the pieces that has the black line across the screen. However, after I export the video from my edited timeline version, there are still some black lines that I missed that did not show up during my editing. When I look back in my PR timeline those black lines are not showing up. Could this be because there are other lines in the image/video that PR is not picking up? Or can I possible stretch out the video more so it will show these other black lines so I can remove them? I would appreciate any advice I can get. Well, bad news. It worked for a while after I did it last night and all day today until about an hour ago. I have been working on an InDesign document for most of the day. I left the document open and went to dinner and watched some TV. I came back after about four hours and noticed it happened again. I tried doing the same thing that seemed to have fixed it before but this time it did not resolved the problem. I logged into my other account on my machine and InDesign works without a problem. Maybe your right and something is corruption my account. However it is only doing it to InDesign. I have made one observation and I don't know if this is relevant or not. The first time this started happening was when I left InDesign open in a document overnight. This time it happened again when I left InDesign open in a document for about four hours. Do you know how I would fix a corrupt account on my Windows 11, if that is truely the problem? ... View more

I think I just fixed it by accident. I opened InDesign and in the opening page without opening a document. I made a minor change in one of my default settings. Then I opened as document and it snapped open, The I closed everything and opened InDesign again and it seems to be back to normal. BobLevine Yes, I went to Dell and verified all the drivers were up to date. I logged into another account on my laptop as you recommended. When I opened InDesign with the other user account on my laptop it snaps right open, file opened with a snap, and it closed with a snap. Just like it used to. So, it does seem to appear to be my account on the laptop. Do you have any recommendations how to clear or clean up that account to fix the InDesign lag? ... View more

BobLevine I am using InDesign Version 17.0.1. I have RAM 32GB. All other Adobe products open and close as normal, I see no sluggish opening, closing, or saving issues. I am hoping this does not get taken wrong. If it does then I am sorry. I am a little upset right now to say the least. If funny how programmers always try to blame other products for issues that arise with their product. Let me know if this is correct and correct me if I am wrong. I believe Adobe writes the software to work with Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 does not write their software to work off Adobe. If Windows 10 has an update and then Adobe stops working properly. That means there is something in the Adobe’s software that is not working with Windows 10 and needs to be corrected. Wouldn’t you think that Adobe would find this issue and fix it to work 100 percent with Windows 10 operating system? They created their Adobe software to work on Windows. I would think Adobe would want to fix it right away. I should not have to wipe my Windows 10 operating system and all software off my machine and reinstall the whole thing from scratch. I think if I were to do this, chances are that Adobe would still have the same issue and that would really tick me off. I cannot afford to take the time to wipe my machines operating system clean and all other software on it and lose all the things I have on my machine. For one thing it is a very time-consuming process. O my gosh to say it lightly. This problem has arisen again. I do not know what has transpired at Adobe this time. It happened once before. I was able to fix it by updating my bios on my laptop. Now it is happening again. There was a Windows 10 update a couple days ago. Other than that, nothing else has changed or updated. As I stated once before, I only use Adobe and Microsoft products on my laptop. This issue started again and is doing the exact same thing that it was doing previously. This time my bios and software are all up to date. I do not think it is just an InDesign issue because all my Adobe products are running slower than normal, extremely slow. Can someone please help or offer some advice, I need to get back to the way InDesign was working before. My livelihood depends on it. Here is a little feedback about my system. My system/machine meets minimum requirements. In fact, it is more than what is required. My files are saved on an SSD on my machine. No changes have been made to my system at all other than a Windows 10 update a couple of days ago. I have tried resetting the preferences and that did not resolve the issue. I have not tried reinstalling the application because it is not only happening with InDesign. It is happening with all Adobe products. That tells me that it is something to do with Adobe in general. This is a follow-up after looking into my issue and a few other things. This is ridiculous. Adobe what have you done to make things so slow and sluggish? I have a very powerful laptop and lots of memory. The only thing that I use my laptop for is checking my emails and using Adobe products. The only changes that have taken place are the latest Adobe updates. After the latest Adobe updates, this is what I am now experiencing. My InDesign takes about 30 seconds to open. It used to open instantaneously. The document that I use now takes 30 seconds to open. It used to open instantaneously. Closing my InDesign document takes over 10 seconds. It used to open instantaneously. Closing InDesign also takes over 10 second. It used to open instantaneously. PhotoShop takes over 1 minute to open. It used to open instantaneously. Illustrator takes about 1 minute to open. It used to open instantaneously. I am not sure if “Adobe CEP HTML” has anything to do with this issue?
