ff is a common ligature set, so fonts that support those ligatures, like Minion Pro, will show the f's attached. But with a font like Verdana there is no ligature support so it should just handle them like separate characters. And of course the text should not go blank. Can you make a new project with just one text layer (and nothing else) using a few of these common ligature sets? Still, it should not hang. Neil's suggestion is fine as a workaround, and it is what many users do. So @Mark Hatton can you get it to happen with just one or two small dynamically linked Ae comps and, if so, can you send me that project and the ae project(s) to go with it. So to be clear, I need one PrPro test project with the smallest number of linked Ae comps needed to repro the bug... and nothing else inside the Pr project. @KYLER HOLLAND  I'm very happy to hear that the original problem that you reported is fixed for you in the latest Beta build. You can expect it to be fixed in the next public release as well. When a Caption segment is upgraded to a Graphic, we respectt the text-in-box size and location that the caption had. If you want a smaller text box, then you can make the box small in the Program Mon before upgrading the Caption. You can resize the text box after the fact too, but as you noticed, the Anchor Point will be in the upper left at that point so the text box will not be resizing in a symmetrical way. That is because we make upgraded captions have the same Anchor Pointtas newly created text-in-a-box layers do... with the AP in the upper left. If you want to add something like a Scale Up animation, you'll need to center the Anchor Point inside the text box first. Snap In Program Monitor can help you do that, btw. Q: "...how do you downgrade?" A: To roll back to a previous version, go to your CC Desktop App > All Apps, and find Premiere Pro in your list of Installed apps. Click on the spanner menu (three dots) next to the Open button for PrPro and choose older versions. There you can choose from a list of older versions that can be installed. I can understand your frustration with our products given the size of the project you're working on. You mentioned the spinning ball, so I assume you are on Mac OS, right? When Pr is in a state like that, can you go to Mac's Activity Monitor and take a sample process, or if that is not available, a spindump (or both if you want)? Thanks for the update. I'm glad things are working for you. True, in my case I was always using progressive sequences and media. I'm glad someone pointed that out.    If you DO want to see actual frame interpolation, turn on Optical Flow and either render that section of the Timeline, or park on a frame for a second or so and you should see the interpolated frame draw in. I have a 'horses running' video and it works well there, although you can sometimes spot the imperfections. I'd like to know more about what you are doing and seeing. It looks like you are using Pr 23.6 on Win, right? I'm using Pr24.0xBeta034 on mac M1 system with McOS 13.5, and I also tried it using Pr 23.6 on Win 10. In both cases, what I am seeing is the opposite of what you described... it's always duplicating frames and not interpolating in-between frames when the Time Interpolation is set to Optical Flow. Thank you for the test project @AndrewTheGreat . I opened it and saw a huge amount of Text Layers, all in different Graphics and Tracks across the whole timeline. I also saw a lot of missing third party effects when I opened it (see image). You are really pushing beyond the limits of what Graphics in Pr were ever designed to do. They are all live vector items with keyframes (even when not animated) so they all take a hit on your processing power. They may not cause your system resources to spike way up (because individually, each text layer is pretty light) but it's really hard for Pr to draw it all over and over again as you move or edit text layers. As for the solution, I think you have already shown by your own testing that removing Graphics and their Text Layers will cause things to speed up. So whatever you can do to consolidate and flatten layers will probably help a lot. Maybe try exporting a sequence of Graphics to a file format that supports transparency and then just lay that exported media on top in on track. Or you could perhaps try doing the Text & Graphics things in Ae and then import the comp with Dynamic Link into Pr. But my guess is performance may get bogged down that way as well. ... View more

I'm so glad that worked! @HotWheelz420  I don't know why your own saved workspaces were going afoul, but it might be worth cleaning out that Layout directory if there is unwanted crud in there. Unfortunately the workspace xml files are named in a way that does not correspond to the name you gave it in Pr, so just be careful about not actually delting things until you know you don't need them. ... @type1wild This sort of thing is often due to some 3rd party software, hardware or driver conflict on that system. If we can find your crash report(s) we can sometimes tell what that conflict is. Can you: (1) Add something into the comment field of the crash dialog to tell us what you did when it crashed. Something short like what you wrote above is fine. (2) Check on the box that says Adobe may contact you... and add a valid email address into that box. (3) Be sure to press the Send Report button (4) Let me know what email address you used and when you sent the crash report in (incude your time zone). For anything more complex than a moving or transforming line, I would use one shape to mask out another in the same Graphic. OK wait @AndrewTheGreat before you leave for good... Animating a line in Pr is totally different! I watched your video but I didn't understand much of what I was seeing and was wondering what your line example had to do with Write On text. For an animated line, start here: (1) Draw a straight line using the pen tool (2) Find that shape in the ECP and toggle on animation Path (3) Move the playhead later in time and move a vertex in the Program Mon to make it longer or shorter Note: Use a shift modifier to keep the line flat if needed Unlike Source text and appearance things, Path animation inerpolates between keyframes so it will grow as the playback proceeds. It's still not as robust as what you can do with Ae but it's a lot easier to set up when animating a whole text string on one character at a time. ... View more

I'm still discussing things with the product team to see what may have happened, but my main priority here is hopefully finding a way to get back to your finished Project + Media. So... What if you skip the relink steps at project open and try right clicking on media in the project panel and doing the relink steps from there? Or perhaps even replace footage... pointing to the same media in the new locale? Save an extra instance of your project before trying any of this so we don't make things even less recover-able. ... @josephm28216620 Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having.  I discussed this with the product team just now. Already broken projects won't recover in an updated version (Pr 23.5 or higher). The fix only prevents new projects from breaking in this way. The only recovery is through auto saves. @AndrewTheGreat We understand the value of porting Ae's Write On effect over to Pr. We did the same thing for Warp Stabilizer several years ago and customers loved it. It's not as easy as it sounds though. The Ae Write On effect uses text animators, which is a complex method that Pr can't handle, at least not yet. So what you and others are generally asking for inside Pr is a simple preset for animation effects. We have discussed the possibility of doing that but it has not yet risen as a top priority. Note that you can do a write on effect in Pr manually by setting keyframes on the source text string, but it is a lot of work. This is why we still recommend the Ae method. ... View more
