You have the Preferences set to fit to frame ... and then you add clips to a new sequence ... and it doesn't fit them to the frame?

That's looking awesome, I must say ... I just checked out your site. Will definitely be testing this out next week! PCs and Macs and it handles all CinemaDNG files too? Wow.

Premiere Pro, like Resolve and Avid, was designed and continually updated for professional workflows. Where heavily advanced techniqes are typically presumed to be manually controlled by experienced users. There are no apologies for it being a densely packed program. I work in both Premiere and Resolve on a daily basis, and find between them, both are dense, but Resolve is much harder for me to navigate. I've got a decade of use of both programs, btw. And friends think Resolve is the most intuitive app ever made ... which is great for them! I still struggle with things like trying to remember where they hid all the variuos menus and submenus around a "page". It ain't obvious to me. But that's just me. We're all different. Everyone in the trade does everything differently, and these apps are designed to accomoadate an incredible array of workflows, media, hardware, and export needs. Yea, they're complex and complicated. Premiere Elements is on the other hand, a decent video editing app, designed to automate many things to make it easier to get "lighter" stuff done. Especially by those with less experience. Btw ... the manual for BlackMagic's Resolve app is over 3,000 pages. There's a ton of stuff about these programs, no one masters every part of any of them.

And the workload Pr25.x puts on a system is heavier, and somewhat different, than previous series builds. Which means some kit does not perform as well. So just like in past years, some newer gear does better, some not so hot or newish gear ... struggles more than with the previous build series. That can also be an issue.

My first question, is what are you expecting? The GPU is not simply an additional part of the CPU, but an entirely different processing system, with different coding and parts of the process sent to the GPU instead of, not alongside, the CPU. So ... do you have any GPU accelerated effects on the clips? Or is there resizing going on? As if the answer is yes, you'd be getting more GPU for certain. As it looks like you're just doing playback of long-GOP files, there might not be that much sent to the GPU for work. Premiere does use some GPU processing for some long-GOP files under certain specific circumstances. @RjL190365 would have the most technical data for your situation.

Hokay, thanks ... extensive data is always required for troubleshooting. As BlackMagic doesn't really offer any help with using their plugin in Premiere, I would suggest going to the Autokroma website. Why? Because they have extensive documention on how to get around issues with the BM plugin! So for the best support for the BM freebie plugin, go to the Autokroma site, and look through their documentation for BM plugin troubles. Quite some time back I gave up on the BM freebie plugin ... paid for the Autokroma one, which has ability to create presets and all, and ... most importantly, it always just works. Which on my rig, the BM freebie didn't. It worked sometimes ... mostly. Not acceptable.

Premiere has always had a file-length name thing ... too many characters, and you're out. I don't know how many characters you're running, or how many the current version accepts. Hoping someone who knows pops in.

How is that NAS mapped? What's the typical file-tree name structure? Sometimes those bits can be helpful in solving this crud.

Which unit do you have? I would note, the ability to use the Tangent gear as all-around AWESOME tools is there. Rotate/size/move any selected screen element, whether image or graphic? Yep. Audio? Oh Hades yes! And actually by using the Warp Engine, you can do something you couldn't previously ... as you record mouse steps for "playback" with the Warp, you can do entire sequences of steps ... essentially, create any type of macro command you want! Amazing tools ...

That whole "context aware" design thing is frustrating at times, because it is totally based on what is currently selected. That's just the way it works now.

I totally understand about having a required LUT to apply. Which is why I mentioned it in the previous post. I work for/with/teach pro colorists, and most of them are not too pleased with most productions that have a "required" Log->lin transform LUT, especially if they haven't been the one building and testing that LUT. And I understand that many colorists, even with a prescribed LUT, reverse-engineer the thing, then ... (quietly, in a node ... ) dump it. As they'd much rather have total control, and total knowledge of!!!! all things chroma/luma involved with those pixels. But if that's the terms of the job, that's what you do, right? They who pays the bills sets the rules. There are ways to work with this within Premiere even with all the new CM stuff. First, the Source tab of the Sequence is where you access any RAW format's settings. ArriRAW, BRAW, ProResRAW, whatever. So that is some place to go to check things. All we have with ProRes RAW is an "exposure" setting. Sadly. But working with that may be what you need to get your highlights back "cleanly". Next, you can set the Color Management to "preserve RGB" ...which is the option to not do any color management via defaults in Premiere. Also, if auto detect log and/or auto tonemapping are turned off, those may help also. In your case I'd try leaving auto detect log on, but turn off the tonemapping. After trying simply to "preserve RGB" and see if that does what you need.

I'm a user like you. I've got no knowledge of whatever the devs are planning on doing that they haven't announced. And while they've said they would like to improve the ProRes RAW playback and use, that's a very general comment. So we can't even guess when they might roll out anything. For that, just watch what's coming out in the public beta builds, I guess. I'm not exactly sure what the second question needs for an answer ... so some basic questions are required. Are you working in a Rec.709 sequence? And export? If so ... why would you want the log image? Other than say if you're required to use a specific transform LUT as part of job specifications, of course. As if so, you gotta LUT that image. I ask, because their algorithmic processes blow out any say LUT based transform from log->lin for "pixel safety" ... as no matter the original exposure and scene, you cannot get either clipped or crushed data, nor over-saturation, which of course you can easily with a LUT based transform. And a lot of users don't understand the differences between LUT and algorithmic transform processes, the possibilities, limitations, and potential issues stuff. Algos are simply less problematic. Or are you wanting to work in HDR, perhaps HLG?

This is an ancient thread, from 2012! ... that was discussing issues with VFR media. MediaEncoder isn't designed to convert VFR ... variable framerate ... into constant framerate ... CFR. Hence the need, with that type of clip, to use an app to convert the media to constant framerate "CFR". Many screen recording apps and most phones record VFR ... the number of frames of actual video per second constantly varies, but the sound recording is constant. Hence, if a player plays the clips at a constant image framerate, the audio will get out of sync. Is that the case with your media?

You need to include more details as to your hardware and the media in order to actually get past guessing. OS ... Win 10, 11, and which build if Win11, there's been some lulu's there ... which specific Intel CPU, as there are massive differnces between them .... the media, what produced it, the framerate/size (other than it's mp4, likely a nasty long-GOP thing) ... and any other effects used. They type and connection of discs used for OS, cache, and project and media files is also useful at times.

ProRes RAW gets a bit of discussion at times from the Adobe forums, BlackMagic forums, and other pro video post discussion places. While some people like it and/or have the Atomos rigs to create it, most seem to avoid it when possible. Interesting discussions abounding, it seems. But in my experience, not that many people as an overall percentage of video post need to use it much. So it doesn't get a lot of "love" in Premiere ... and none what-so-freaking-ever-don't-even-ask in the BM forums. Which is frustrating when you have it and need to work with it for certain! I've only had a couple jobs I needed to use it on, one two years ago, one a bit over a year ago. I was able to work however without proxies, so ... it wasn't too bad. You're right about the proxy issue though at least from the last testing I did personally.

I have two Nvme drives on my desktop, and one is used only for video post cache files ... Premiere, Ae, Audition, Resolve. ALL cache files, the Pr cache database included .... they are in folders by program. So the Pr cache and cache database are in folders 'next to each other' in the visible ordering of things. Which isn't exactly what is physically happening, but what we can see it as. I've never had any problem. So I'm going to guess, that as this only happens on your rig with long-GOP files, that it is something about in/out access and processing speeds needed by that nasty crud media that is the culprit. Thankfully, I mostly deal with BRAW and ProRes, and normally only 4K to 4.6k, and that stuff flies through the computer with ease. But I know many must work with FX6 or FX3 XAVC formats, all based on long-GOP encoding. Let alone those who have drones. That's just rough stuff to work with.

You must all have access to the files. The creator of the TP adds files the 'normal' way, but the others invited to join need to use the menu option to do File Management to add the files, available locally on their system, to the TP on their computer. So that's a bit different than normal, but doable once everyone understands how it works.

All correct. I chose the 3960X in consultation with Puget Systems on the basis of overall performance in both Premiere and Resolve, with the understanding that I didn't have to use any big-K long-GOP media, and if I did, would be quite willing to either proxy or transcode. For those with heavy need of long-GOP capabilities, the options are all ... well, it's possible, of course, if everything goes right, the camera makers don't change their settings, and the OS makers don't mess up with an update. What a glorious ... possibility ... for messes to happen.

As noted elsewhere ... and often, as this comes up repeatedly! ... an option is to make subclips, then go to the bin where they are listed, select all, Export. It's sometimes somewhat less of a pain. Sigh.
