Anna, welcome to the group! I'm autistic, with all the uber-focus that can bring, exec function issues et al ... so like many in video post, thee & me have a lot of neuro-diverse companionship. Averdahl is actually one of the best, knowledgeable, helper volunteers around these parts. And if we non-Neuro-Typical's expect some grace now and then from NTs, well, we also need to extend some to them. "We" are, like everyone, unique ... as 'they' are also. I can guarantee Averdahl did not mean any disparagement ... and was sincerely trying to help. I suggest leaving behind any attempts to apply motivations behind comments on forums ... it just never helps that I can tell. Past that, I can so sympathize with your trying to learn. For myself, I came out of a 25+ year stills pro studio career into digital pro stills back about 2001/2, going into Photoshop and when it came out, Lightroom public beta 2. Then in 2013, I went into some video production, but mainly video post work, specializing in color ... my uber-focus "native" thing. Not editing, which should have been my main push. Ah well ... our biggest fight, for all humans, is actually with ourselves. I try to win occasionally but it's dang difficult. After learning stills digital imaging, to a fairly high level ... I thought that most of my stills knowledge would apply to video post. I was SO flippin' wrong on that! Video post has very, very little in common with still image post processing. And this was a hard thing for me to learn. There are solid reasons there are certain underlying patterns to all NLEs, that are dramatically different from other types of apps. And in my experience, for those of us who learn more perhaps "conceptually" than most NTs do, it is a hard struggle to figure out the basics underlying the design and functions of the tools in an NLE. So almost before learning how to do X in Premiere, it would probably be good to get a bit of reading in on the basic structure and functioning of an NLE as a process. For me, until I finally got that bit down, nothing made any sense.
