I have no idea what you mean by "branded bullet points". Are these graphics? Are these from a custom font? What exactly are you talking about?

Preview is a substandard way of viewing PDF files. I doesn't support all the PDF features. You need to use the free Adobe Reader. You can download it from the Adobe website.

Tools > Protection > Mark for Redaction. There are two parts to the process: First you mark text for redaction. Then you redact it. I'd suggest reading the Acrobat Help file section on redaction for details. The advantage of redaction is that it permanently removes the selected text from the file.

I'm guessing you're on a Mac laptop where there is no dedicated Enter key. In that case, it's Command + Fn + Return. Fn + Return gives you the Enter key (shown above the Return key on the keyboard).

In InDesign CS5, create a button (or used one from the Sample Buttons library found on the Buttons panel flyout menu). Click the + sign beside Actions: Look at the list of possible actions: The ones listed at the top work with both PDF and SWF files. They include Go to First Page, Go Next Page, Go to Previous Page, Go to Last Page. If you want to make a button take you to some other page, you need to create a hyperlink destination on that page. Then it will become available when you choose Go to Destination. As I said these all work with either PDF or SWF export. Below those choices are four actions which only work with SWF files, including Go to Page (that's why they are headed "SWF") Below those chose are four actions which only work with PDF files (that's why they're headed "PDF") Good luck!

I totally agree, Phillip. The Adobe Acrobat team continues to live in the 1990s where virtually every business person uses Windows, and they only had to develop for one platform. I've been complaining about this since Acrobat 3 when I started using it.

Click on the Show menu in that dialog (the screenshot shows All), and choose RGB. It will show RGB objects on the page. Another thing you can do is use the Object Inspector. In the Preview section, you're previewing Separations. Click Object Inspector, and click on objects you think might contain RGB and it will give more information. I believe you can also use a Preflight profile or checkup using the Preflight tool.

There's nothing inherent in Lion that keeps InDesign CS3 and CS4 from printing. After installing Lion on my iMac, I tried out printing in both InDesign CS3 and CS4. Nothing extensive, just a test file. Both versions printed fine to my HP inkjet printer. My advice to those who are having problem is to uninstall CS3 and/or CS4 and reinstall the applications.

I watched the Colin's video that Anne-Marie linked to yesterday. You didn't watch the video long enough. I was an Acrobat Connect sessions which started with a layout which had a poll. After a minute or two, Colin switched into a demo mode where he showed his desktop and did his demonstration in InDesign, Adobe Digital Editions, and other applications. Look at it again.

On a Mac: <computer> > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings They are the .joboptions files as Bob mentioned. The same ones are used for Distiller and the Adobe Creative Suite applications. They are called Settings in Distiller and PDF Presets in the Suite. Custom Settings are in this path on a Mac: Users > [yourname] > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings This is when you create customized PDF presets.

What version of InDesign? How many pages in the publication? It could be scripted, but if there aren't too many pages, you could copy manually. A useful thing to know when copying layered content: From the Layers panel menu, select Paste Remembers Layers. When you do that, selecting all, copying and pasting will retain the layer structure from the original file instead of putting all objects on the current layer.

I learned from Anne-Marie's video tutorial on Lynda.com that on a Mac for complex technical reasons, you can't Zip up an EPUB from the Desktop. The best solution is a pair of scripts to Unzip and Zip an EPUB. They're called EPUB Zip and EPUB Unzip. This avoids having to use Mac Terminal (which is what Liz Castro uses). She says, "Read the full thread about these on mobileread.com forum, “ePub Zip for Mac OS X”. I think you'll find them with a Google search for "EPUB Unzip" Alternatively, if you use a great XML editor like Oxygen Author (about $200), it lets you work within the archive without unzipping and rezipping.

@Command_Q, That's a known bug in InDesign CS5.5. Here's a posting on InDesignSecrets.com about it: Creating EPUB in InDesign CS5.5: Beware the WebKit Bug! There are two workarounds: (1) Removing the character(s). You can look for them in an XML editor like Oxygen. (2) Edit the DTD which is the source of the problem; see Naomi's comments and the comment of the InDesign product manager in the comments.

I'm more inclined to think it's something in your Acrobat installation. Perhaps a corrupted preferences file. You could try uninstalling and installing Acrobat.

Does this happen on only one PPT file? There could be a corrupted graphic in the file. To figure out which one, you'd have to use some diagnosis. Create a PDF of only the first half of the PPT file, and try to optimize that. Repeat for the second half of the PPT. The part which fails has a bad graphic. Repeat breaking each part into two parts to narrow it down to the page where there is a bad graphic.

I just did a test with PowerPoint 2011 on the Mac. I placed several JPEG files into a set of slides. I created a PDF file the same way you did (File > Save As PDF). Then I used Optimizer in both Acrobat 9 and Acrobat X to reduce image resolution to 72 ppi. I encountered no errors in either version of the program. What version of PowerPoint are you using? Have you try re-saving the PPT files in Powerpoint (File > Save As) to rewrite the files? What settings did you use in the Optimizer?

You cannot open an InDesign CS5.5 file directly in InDesign CS5. You need to choose File > Export > IDML and open the IDML file in InDesign CS4 or CS5.
