I'm not an expert (since I never use servers to store files), but it sounds like a server problem. Move the files to your local drive before editing them to be safe.

I just did a test of an Interactive PDF file with GoodReader on an iPad. It recognizes hyperlinks to URLs and switches to a browser. It currently ignores buttons. But the creator of GoodReader has regularly upgraded the application, so it may just be a matter of time.

From InDesign CS5 Help: Edit or delete hyperlink destinations Open the document in which the destination appears. Choose Hyperlink Destination Options in the Hyperlinks panel menu. For Destination, select the name of the destination you want to edit. Do one of the following: Click Edit, and then make changes to the destination as necessary. I think Peter is correct. These are probably Macintosh PostScript Type 1 or TrueType fonts. These fonts have a uniquely Mac feature—namely a "data fork" which can be viewed on a PC, and a "resource fork" which cannot. You'll need Windows versions of the fonts if you need to edit the file If you don't need to edit it, you could have the sender create a PDF file which will properly embed the font for printing.

You're using the wrong file format for print. PNGs are designed for on-screen viewing. Open them in Photoshop and resave as PSD or TIFF files.

Here is the syntax as defined in InDesign Help: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6c3ca.html Click on the Add image fields to the data source file link. If it's not working for an external drive, it could unfortunately be a bug.

I don't know that I've ever seen the syntax defined. However, as a workaround, why don't you put the images on your hard drive, and use Data Merge to create the InDesign file. Then use the Links panel in InDesign to relink the images to those on your hard drive.

@syst_m, What Mac preferences are you talking about? There are preferences for each application, and many, many different Apple preferences. Most of them are in <home>/Library /Preferences. Some are in /Library/Preferences. If you wanted to actually erase all your Mac preferences, you would do a clean install of your operating system and then reinstall all your software.

Hi, Dick, When you see something like "51p0" that means that the measurement units are set to picas, not to inches. You can go to InDesign preferences (under the Edit menu in Windows or the InDesign menu on the Macintosh), and in Units & Increments, change your units to inches. I saw another of your postings, and it looks like you're taking a very hard road with no tutoring, no class, or no book. As a total beginner, it will be worth it to spend $20 and order "InDesign CS5 Visual QuickStart Guide" by Sandee Cohen. She takes you step-by-step through what you're painfully trying to learn on your own. I highly recommend it! What Mac OS are you running? How are you determining your CPU consumption? I'm running Acrobat X on two Macs. When I look at Activity Monitor on either computer, and select All Processes, I don't even see AdobeResourceSynchronizer listed.

There should be a screened box behind "COMPANION TITLES, etc." at the bottom. It appears in InDesign, and the X1 and X4 versions. The frame was set to Overlay mode.

I have strange mixed results in Mac OS X 10.6.6 and InDesign CS5 7.0.3. It exports correctly when I choose PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-4 PDF presets. But the frame is missing when I choose High Quality Print. I can't remember seeing anything like this before. HQ Print and PDF/X-4 shouldn't flatten, but PDF/X-1a does flatten so I can't explain it.

It could be caused by corrupted InDesign files. You should take one of those InDesign files which don't export properly and export as IDML. Then reopen the new file and export again. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991

You can move the column guides you create on a page (but not in a text frame). However, you have to choose View > Grids and Guides > Lock Column Guides to unlock them because they are locked by default.

Make sure you've turned on View > Display Performance > High Quality Display. Open in the Info panel. Select each image and check its Effective (scaled) Resolution. Images which are enlarged will have a lower resolution.

Actually, I have to disagree with you, Peter, about the Page tool. While I agree that it can be confusing to newcomers (as many of InDesign's tools are), it has great utility in printing. Two example are creating gatefolds or book covers. I wrote a blog post about this: http://indesignsecrets.com/introducing-multiple-page-sizes-in-indesign-cs5.php You can also create a nice presentation of an identity package using multiple page sizes with this feature: http://indesignsecrets.com/creating-multiple-page-sizes-in-cs5—part-2.php In the print dialog box, there a new widget for selecting all pages of the same size, if you're printing directly from the document. And creating a PDF is easy because PDF files have always supported multiple sizes and orientations. As usual, your commercial printer will have to get up-to-speed on new techniques, and you should communicate with them ahead of printing time.

Remember this is an OS only installed two days ago. And Save as Adobe PDF DID work when I tried it on the first day. I didn't use it on Saturday, then on Sunday it's not working. There was NO CHANGE in the system. And other people are experiencing the same problems: It's something wrong with the implementation of the feature.

I installed Rosetta. I used the Edit menu to uninstall Save as Adobe PDF. I went into Acrobat and repaired the installation. But Save as Adobe PDF is still broken.

Installing Rosetta does NOT fix the problem on my MacBook Pro. I still get the message "Save as Adobe PDF quit unexpectedly." I have found the problem sporadic, which makes it hard to figure out. It has worked a couple times, usually it does not.
