What does this mean? Do you work off an external hard drive or networked hard drive? What operating system are you using? Windows? Mac OS? In windows, when you restart your computer, an external hard drive may be assigned a different drive letter which would cause the problem you describe.

File organization and management is like a sub religion, right next to Mac vs PC devotees. Over the years in this and other forums, a number of LR users suggest dumping all photos into a common "My Pictures" folder and using keywords to find their stuff. Or, just using the default year/month/day LR file importing/organizing file structure. To me, that is in no way usable outside LR.

I understand your situation. I have a great many images in my catalog, commercial, photojournalism, aerial, etc. If I were in the situation you describe, desiring to separate those areas of your work, I would do it with one catalog and top level folders like this: Drive X:\ All Photos (makes backup much easier) \commercial \2016 2016-12-22-Company ABC Annual Banquet and Awards \weddings \as above \aerials \real estate \misc These folders can be placed on multiple volumes/drives. Lightroom handles that fine. Such a folder structure all in one LR catalog will give you the segregation of categories you need. Ultimately, I think you will tire of opening and closing multiple catalogs in your daily search for images and importing new jobs. As recommended in the ASMP standards for image organization, one should be able to have full access to the file system in the OS outside of the photo/DAM software. I like to go directly to the folder (in the OS) where I know my exported jpgs are located so I can find them for emailing, social media and web site use.

I just tested the export process on my I7 3930, 32 GB ram. Exporting to same folder as originals on 7200 rpm hard drive. I didn't have files that small, so I exported 50 42MB .nefs to full size 100% jpegs, average 13 MB final size. The export process took a little longer than a minute.

I doubt that you will actually let the wedding customer see all 3000 images. For fast culling of big shoots, try Photo Mechanic. It is lightning fast and let you tag and save the keepers so you won't have to import them all into LR, saving you all that time to cull in LR.

That sounds about right to me. I have not done it myself, but I helped a friend and he had similar results, taking days for the import. His did stop due to a power failure. It picked up from the place it left off.

yes, that is correct. I LR you can see the drive letter for each drive. Once the server is disconnected, remove the mapped drive in Windows Explorer. In disk manager, then assign the drive letter you used for the mapped drive once it is connected to the mother board of the computer.

I've tried to research this online, but haven't found a definitive answer. Was LR 5 able to be installed on both PC and MAC? Perhaps the OP has a PC/Win license # that won't work on a MAC version. OP: check the license code to see if it is for both PC and MAC. This may be a bad guess, I checked my products at adobe.com and all my LR versions going way back say "multiple" on the platform. I was probably thinking about the PS restriction to one platform prior to CC.

Premier pro is a big powerful program with an interface and workspace unlike Photoshop or Lightroom. It's not practical to explain how in a forum answer. Go to the adobe web site to watch the tutorials on Premier Pro. Did you check for compatibility of your video card? See this link: Photoshop graphics processor (GPU) card FAQ​ Also, if you do much video, once you learn the basics of Premier Pro, you will like it much better that Photoshop for processing video.

Mine comes up like this, defaulting to AME: I also have the full version of CC. You might check to see if you open the video in Premier Pro if it will export to AME from there. The only other think I can think of is to check to see if your video/graphics card meets the minimum specs.

10.12 is not a Lightroom version number. That looks like a MacOS version number. In Lightroom, go to Help/About Photoshop Lightroom (the bottom selection in the drop down menu and you will see something like this: The number on the left is the LR version number. If you are using LR 6 and not CC, the first number will be "6"
