The link highlighted in your post splits a large PDF into single page PDFs based on a csv/txt file within Acrobat - it isn't an InDesign Script. There is an indesign script you can try and it is written by Loic Aigon: go to http://www.loicaigon.com/en/pdf-exports-properly-named/ read the article and see if it is appropriate for you. Also http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/grep_query_manager.html This is good too, but only does GREP searches (no text, glyph or object find/replaces) that were written by the user - does not use the ones installed with InDesign. Does allow changes by selection, story, document or folder. Did try the Doquerylist suggested by Kasyan. Finally on cs6 and have retested GrahamHe's script. Still has the same error in InDesign, but that is because this is NOT and indesign script - it's an ACROBAT script! The script is applied using the action wizard. So this doesn't behave the way I thought, such as running the script directly from indesign. The file is still merged to a single multi-page PDF file, and then the script is run via the action wizard. Had trouble getting the script to work initially via acrobat but I did amend the second line to read var _data = data.split('\r'); and it worked a treat! One warning: the names in the column selected to become the filenames need to be unique (such as a primary key) otherwise there is a risk of files overwriting each other. colly ... View more

OIC. Must admit to not owning a smartphone and being unaware of the MECARD detail I felt that sergemca's script had more potential than files assembled out of data merge, and could be used for any document where particular placeholders were set up, regardless of how the document was created. For example, a parts catalogue that has URLs for each product, whether created from scratch; as a result of data merge or XML; could benefit from this script by employing a method similar to my last post. In terms of data merge, if it is used off-of-the-shelf, it can't auto-generate text frames of its own based on the incoming data. I've been able to get data merge to do some weird and wonderful things as outlined on my blog, but the possibilities with scripting and data merge are yet to fully be explored. Loic Aigon is a pioneer with this, he has several scripts that push the envelope and do things outside the normal scope of data merge, but apart from what he's done, i'm not sure of its further potential. ... I like this use of the script that sergemca has provided. It doesn't perform the text-to-qrcode conversion on the fly as the document is being merged, but rather takes a merged file and applies qrcodes to any textframe that begins with MECARD: . Having said that, the script could also be applied to any large document that has textboxes with the MECARD: rule as outlined in the above post, a merged file is but one example. Having said that, would a text frame that had a script label be more appropriate e.g. rather than the script hunting for any instance of a textbox with the words MECARD: in them, could an alternative be to look for textframes that have a similarly named script label? The advantage of this would be that the QRcode would not include the words "MECARD:" when made (or any other text trigger) that is in the script at the moment. I can see another application of this script: placing spreads of a PDF so that the file can be re-PDFd as single pages instead. This would be a solution for print providers who have to break readers spreads into single pages. I've outlined a different indesign method before and a wholly PDF based solution here: https://colecandoo.wordpress.com/2013/01/13/when-readers-should-be-single-version-2-0/ BUT this method would be yet another failsafe. Apart from chaning the JPG filters in the script and changing the myRec.fit(FitOptions.PROPORTIONALLY) to myRec.fit(FitOptions.frameToContent), I'm a bit stuck how to change the start point of the image. In my circumstances the image would need to start from the centre of the spread and grow outwards. Figure the changes to the script would be something to do with the Rbounds... ideas? ... View more

Data Merge, third party plug-ins and XML all need some kind of structure to a document before anything can really be automated. The samples, while they have a content structure (that is, a picture has a description, price and name) it doesn't have a predetermined position on the page.  Assuming the excel file also has the picture name in one of the fields, data merge could be used to call in all the data and merged via multiple record layout into a new indesign file, but it wouldn't appear as the final layouts above... instead the file would appear as a grid. From here, the pictures and their captions need to be moved to their appropriate positions. I've been umming and ahhing over what to write in the post but ultimately there is no turn-key solution. The best I can think of would still involve running a script on each page and then processing the result of that manually. Automated catalogues are ideal for the likes of phone directories, parts catalogues or school yearbook pictures. this catalogue is outside of those specs and I can't see a way of automating this... as a turn-key solution. I would be interested to see what other posters have to say but I think this is a bridge too far to automate. Data Merge doesn't allow "next records" in this fashion. One set of data containing one record's worth of information needs to be created. The multiple record part is done in the "create merged document" dialog and the rows/columns are set there. Indesign takes what it considers a "record" from anything on the page, that is from the top left to the bottom right of the page, any objects indesign can grab it considers a record. if there is a background, it needs to be on a separate master page, and the variable data has to be on a master page which is BASED ON the master with the background on it. Merging on a master page is only necessary if the text data is to remained linked in the links palette after the merge. This is handy if changes are likely or easier to update via the text file used for the records. If this isn't an issue, the data can be placed on not just one page but many pages within an indesign document. It just means that the resulting indesign file won't have a link back to the text file. ... View more

no need to run in 2 phases with invert - white size does exactly that. i.e. set white to 10, and it will fill white holes with size <=10 with black. well... it's not working in my case. to demonstrate, here is a sample of some white pinholes in the E to eliminate, along with black pinholes in the white. and here is the result I have also tried this with 10 and to no avail. @Evgeny_Trefilov I think we have the answer! still have to do more testing but on first inspection it appears that this is correct. The slider "black size" i've worked out, but "white size" I'm not sure. to get this to work on text with pinholes in it, the procedure appears to be run reprintmaster (with a threshold of 128, black of 70, white of 1), then invert, run reprintmaster with the same settings, then invert again. Would be great to see the script once it is ready for 64 bit too, please keep us posted. @c.pfaffenbichler I did try the javascript but found that, as you say, isn't fast, but doesn't remove a lot of the stray dots either. For example, stray dots which measure 8px wide by 2px high remain in the art because the script will only remove items under 7px AND 7px... (49 square pixels). This means that anything which has an area under 49px BUT has a width or height over 7px will be missed by the script. @David It's a great solution which gets the results, but again has issues. Because of the way the modify/contract method works, it does not take long before any increase in selection values is not only removing dots, but lines and underlines as well. A selection of 1, it will remove spots 2x2 (4px) as stated... with a selection of 2 it will remove spots 4x4, (16px) with a selection of 3, it will remove any graphics with a width or height less than or equal to 6x6. (36px) This solution will work well for type but not so great for thin lines such as text which may be underlined, or thin lines in general. For example, an underline of a word may only be 6px high but would be hundreds of pixels across. If a script was to search by min area (e.g. min 81 px) the line would survive, but if the action is used with a contract threshold of 3, then the line will ultimately be removed despite the fact that it is more than 81px in total area. @ c.pfaffenbichler good point, i suppose anything with type could have been supplied by me as a sample... put simply i couldn't upload bitmap tiffs to my wordpress blog for people to download. can however upload a PDF of the bitmap tiff, which is what i've done: http://wp.me/a1x3Yg-8k - it's really awful. on that sample I don't expect the jaggedness on the edges to be fixed, just the loose dots to go. nevertheless i think your approach is the way to go. In your screengrabs it appears that the spicks and specks were 1px... what if they were larger, such as between 1 px and 9px across (81px square)? would the solution still work? I think your demonstration is a good proof of principle. the time... well spotting the scans manually takes 5-6 minutes on average to do a decent job of them... as for the diagonals 1px... too bad. but yes i think you are well on the right track   ...
