Thanks, Steve. I'm on a Mac (running OS 10.12.6; Sierra), which uses Core Audio, with a FocusRite Scarlett 2i2 interface. Both the Scarlett and Audition are set for 48k.

Over 90% of my work involves recording and editing mono files. Having used Audition CC for a year, I've now gone back to CS6. The plugins I use are generally only EQ and dynamics, and no plugins are ever "live" during recording or editing. My I/O buffer is set at a good balance between record and playback performance, 512 samples. What I'm noticing is what seems to be a bit of sluggishness when scrubbing; dragging the cursor through the audio. I've looked around to see what settings I can change in hopes of improving this, but I've run out of ideas. Can anyone offer any suggestions, please? Thanks.

The sound of wind hitting a microphone, unfortunately, contains many (if not most) of the same frequencies that make up the human voice. So, using any method of noise reduction will almost certainly also reduce the sound of the voice, especially so because I will guess the wind noise is louder than the voice. Good luck!

Because you said "subscription," I'll guess you're using a Creative Cloud version of Audition. I don't know how much help *I* can be (I'll sure try), but the others here will need to know much more. Is it the latest version of Audition? Also, what platform (PC or Mac) are you using and which version operating system? Tell us what your I/O device is and what your settings are. Also, please tell us exactly what the error message says and whether you're attempting to record in Waveform or Multitrack view. From there, we can move forward.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, I've been using a back/UPS for almost 20 years and, while I don't believe Audition has ever stopped recording mid-session, that did happen with a previous DAW. It may have even been Pro Tools. So I've been careful to disable things like the screen saver, a third party reminder app and even an app that logs in to check for incoming email. So, while recording in multi-track mode is safest, if I were to record in waveform mode and experience an interruption, do you think the temp file would be retrievable? Thanks again.

Please correct me: I'd been led to believe that recording in waveform mode does not write the recording to a disk until recording stops and file is saved, but recording in multi-track mode WILL write the recording to disk as the recording progresses. Are both of those statements true? The manual states: "In the Multitrack Editor, Adobe Audition automatically saves each recorded clip directly to a WAV file." Is that what this means? I frequently record material in excess of 20 minutes or more and need to be confident that at least a good portion of a recording can be retrieved if something stops the recording process without my knowledge (I record away from the computer). If all you have is your Mac's built-in mic and you don't want to use it then, yes, you will need an additional piece of hardware; an audio interface (and a mic and/or other audio source). Depending on how recent your Mac is, there are easily a handful or more of interfaces that will connect to it via a Firewire, USB or Thunderbolt port. Here's a place to get started: https://ehomerecordingstudio.com/best-audio-interfaces/ Also, depending on what type of recording (and production, if any) you want to do, you'll also need software (known as DAW, for Digital Audio Workstation). I believe Macs come with Garage Band, and that may be enough for your needs. But there are more than a handful of others. One thing I must stress (as the article does) is COMPATIBILITY: while most interfaces are compatible with most DAWs, you also need to make sure BOTH are compatible with your computer AND its current version of the operating system. Nothing's worse than spending a few hundred bucks on hardware and/or software only to discover they don't work with your computer. Compatibility can be difficult and frustrating, but it's important. As time goes by, and you decide to update anything, you'll have to research the compatibility again. Just keep that in mind. 😉 Let us know how it goes. Have fun!

SOLVED. The inability of the installer to run due to a missing file turned out to be an issue experienced by many others trying to install a CS6 product under Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra). Audition CS6 does not launch. I'm told the install is somehow damaged and tells me to reinstall. I no longer have a need for the CC versions of Audition and Photoshop, so I ran the uninstaller for each of them. Then I uninstalled Creative Cloud and restarted the computer. I tried to launch Audition CS6 again with the same result. I then tried to uninstall Audition CS6, but the alias for the Audition CS6 uninstaller could not find the actual uninstaller app. I searched the entire drive. It does not exist. I then ran Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. It claimed to complete successfully, yet it was unable to remove the Core Sync folder and its contents from /User/Library/Application Support/Adobe. I deleted it manually and restarted the computer. A downloadable Audition CS uninstaller could not be found online, so I used "App Zapper" to delete Audition CS6 and its preference file. (Prior to deleting it, I had backed up the existing Audition CS6 app and all of my preferences, settings and shortcuts, so I still have everything.) Then I launched the Audition CS6 installer, which tells me it cannot install because there is a problem, such as a file missing, and suggests I download the Adobe Support Advisor app... which, as I learned, no longer exists. Instead, I am brought to an Adobe support page which apologizes for the "unusually long wait times." So now I have no DAW. I deeply appreciate any help that can be offered. I began using Adobe Audition in late 2011, when it was version 5.5. At some point during 2012, it was updated to CS6 and, in November 2016, I switched to Creative Cloud, but kept the CS6 version on my drive by moving it into a folder. Creative Cloud simply proved too expensive for my needs, so I want to resume using Audition CS6. While I have already cancelled Creative Cloud, I have not yet uninstalled it. I run a Mac mini (late 2012) under OS 10.12.6 (Sierra). What do I need to do? Thanks.

Thanks, kglad. I should've said my version of Core Sync is 4.2.0.211 (updated August 1, 2017). Core Sync has never – to my knowledge – crashed, but I followed the advice in the fix you linked to (updated February 2016) and deleted the recommended files anyway.

Everyone occasionally experiences minor computer glitches. Most seem to be easily solved. But when my Mac mini (OS 10.12.6, 16GB RAM, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5) has an issue that cannot be addressed by Apple or third-party software because something is preventing troubleshooting, it is a serious concern. Even after booting the computer into Apple's Recover/Restore mode or booting with a backup, Disk Utility and other software were unable to unmount the internal boot disk because the disk "is currently in use by Core Sync." I discovered that Core Sync automatically launches on startup. After I disabled that, the problem cleared. Anyone else experience this, or can Adobe comment, please? Thanks.

The "Action" menu on the items in my Inbox doesn't do anything, so it won't perform any actions. I have no need at all to save the contents of my Inbox, nor do I have the time to spend maintaining yet another collection of online forum messages and notifications I didn't ask for. Please... I agree with RyClark and SteveG: it would appear there is a momentary loss of signal at those locations. Another way toward diagnosing – but not fixing – this issue is to magnify the waveform as much as possible to see if the waveform also "drops out" at those places.

Place the cursor at the location you'd like to edit. From the Edit menu select Insert>Silence... In the dialog box that comes up, enter the value (length of time) to insert and click OK. A "beat" could be anywhere from several frames to a full second (or more). You'll have to make that determination.

Dave, I'm also a voice-over using Audition, except I'm on a Mac. First, as Bob Howes pointed out, unless someone has requested it, there's no need to record stereo (or even 2-track mono) files for voice-over, as a microphone is a mono device. And there's also no need to record voice-over in a multi-track session (unless you'll be reading against a music track, etc.). Mono files – if recorded and played back in Waveform and not Multitrack view – will play out of both left and right channels. Excuse me if I'm repeating what others have said, but as you said you were hoping it would be "easy-peasy." It really is. So, in Waveform view, use whatever command is performed to create a new audio file. When the new audio file dialog box opens, choose a mono file (and make whatever other selections you need) then click OK. A single mono blank waveform window will open. Record. Stop recording. Play back. Unless there is some other issue somewhere else, you should hear what you recorded from both left and right speakers or from both cups of your headphones.

I think I've solved this! Having never before used the Export command from near the bottom of the File menu, I decided to try that. Without creating any clips or subclips, I exported a 16/44.1 mono mp3 at 128k and then quit Audition. Launching Audition again, I opened a different file, created a subclip and then proceeded to export the way I usually do: by highlighting the subclip in the Markers window and clicking the Export icon. This time, Audition had retained the 128k setting. So it seems this is solved. I'll post again if that turns out to be not the case. Thanks!

Thanks, Ry. I do most of my mp3 exports from a single, usually mono file with subclips (not multitrack sessions). Once I quit Audition and then launch it again, the mp3 export parameter has returned to 192k. Obviously, it's not a terribly critical issue, but I like to save some keystrokes and mouseclicks here and there where I can. 🙂

Thanks, Steve. Actually, I almost never use the Save As function. Most of the mp3s I make are exported from files of more than several minutes in length using many subclips. And, even though I'll change the value to export a job at 128k, the next time I export, the value has defaulted to 192k again.

I hardly ever have the need to export (or save) mp3 files as anything other than the 128k bit rate. And I also never need to include markers or meta data in them. How can I change the defaults in CC so that I don't have to set them every single time I do an mp3 export? Thanks.
