It's a little different now in the days of computers. Nobody here is claiming that they shouldn't be able to have a different look, but that they should have the option to (at least somewhat) match camera output. Adobe does not disagree, which is why they have camera emulation profiles for most cameras (and DNG Profile Editor for all cameras). What's missing is the automation which could only come from reading proprietary metadata, and mapping settings there to the closest thing in Lightroom, e.g. upon import.. As I said before, it's totally doable, and a LOT of people would love Adobe for doing it. Nevertheless, such enhancements are NOT on Adobe's radar, or weren't at the time Eric Chan said that. To be clear: I'm not talking about using manufacturer's SDK, which is also doable in some cases, and would create results that 100% match manufacturer's software/camera (we could talk about that, but I am not..). I'm talking about having defaults which take camera settings into consideration and attempt to honor them by mapping them to something similar in Lightroom, if there is anything. For example, Lightroom could auto-select a camera matching profile, but it doesn't. Lightroom could switch to black and white if black and white in camera etc.. Don't get me wrong: I'm with Adobe on this one - it would not be the best use of their resources to try and emulate camera settings (in my opinion), just sayin': I personally know many people who would LOVE IT if they did! . PS - If you are hell-bent on being able to set up camera and have Lr copy, it can be done, to some extent, using a plugin, like ISO Detailer or Ottomanic Importer (or ExifMeta + CollectionPreseter..). Some (or a lot) of advanced customization may be required.. Cheers, Rob
