I use full paths in excel to merge spreadsheet data in InDesign and generate captions photo slicks for clients to verify image assignments. Whole paths continue to work with data merge.

I would love to help but I am unclear about one detail, the content of said spreadsheet. Is the image name included in row with the "English name"? I am unclear of the obstacle. If the speadsheet has at some unique identifier that relates name to image then the rest is an easy excel formula. I process hundreds of photos linking, renaming and finding missing photos. I think I can help.

This was not simple human error. This was cloud activity that occured through account access point, either on the cloud or on a synced location. Our 2 man team made no move that would cause this type of change and so rapidly. It began the moment each of us logged on to our local machine. This event so far has no reasonable explanation at this point. We have "recovered" but have no way of telling if all files were recovered. The 2 common denominators in this event are Adobe Creative cloud shared directories and Cloud syncing. Direcories and files not shared through the cloud were not affected. Each of our individual files were left untouched. We are looking to other cloud based file sharing to prepare for the sync/share feature is going away. It was not simple human error.

I understand what you are explaining to me about the syncing behavior. The event this morning at logon was nothing similar. 850 + files. Portions of directories, select files deleted and landed in the recycling bin. We have gotten used to the adding and deleting of files and how the cloud and sync files behave. This event was not like any of that.

This is not common. Read the details of the deletion. Selective. Many files. Our team is not large. It isn't difficult to consult our users. The same thing happened on all workstations.

I have also found that when synced files are deleted they are available on the cloud and accessible on the web in the "Deleted folder" remaining there for 30 days. This folder is empty as well. Perhaps our account has simply been hacked.

850 various files. Not all but some from most folders. Sometimes the entire folder sometimes only selective items. All deleted 10 minutes after log on. That is common?

Our team has many members but only 4 are active. The shard locations within our organization simply 'deleted' themselves programmatically this morning at logon. My closest team member ran into my office in a panic, "Why are all our files deleted?" I logged on and then my files started to move to the recycling bin. Only Adobe location files.

When our team members logged on this morning most of our shared file location files were sent to the recycling bin. Here at our company we have built our synced files to be shared so we can back each other up for holidays, sick days, etc.. Now we are creating a separate network location to salvage everything that was sent to our trash on our respective workstations. It was strange that when we logged on this morning all our files "deleted" themselves. Has this happened to any other teams. My team was in panic but all files are in the trash and can be retreived. Quite distrubing. We recieved no notification that something like this would occur if Adobe initiated the event. If it was a hack, it only affect our Adobe CC for Teams members.

Thank you, @Dirk Becker. This information is quite helpful. Our products and services include a varitey of different reports and printed products that follow consistent patterns and elements. Some are purely data reports, while others have linked or embedded images. Still all this information is quite helpful on our current track of streamlining current manual processes toward complete automation. Some reports may bypass InDesign entirely. The main challenge I have encountered is instruction and guidance to leverage to utilize InDesign with XML as well as resources for scripting. My XML research has led me to purchase 2 books, 'XML & InDesign', by Dorothoy J. Hoskins and 'A Designer's Guide to Adobe Indesign and XML', by Jim Maivald. I went through a Lynda course by Maivald that has since been retired. It was very comprehensive. Unfortunately, at the time I took the course, our team was unwilling to develop and employ the XML process for those projects. Hence my question, 'Is XML and InDesign a thing of the past?'. Scripting in InDesign is another area I have found little information on other than it exists and is useful. It does seem like this will be an essential part creating new processes in InDesign with XML. I have used JavaScript to automate some of our processes in Acrobat. The specifications for InDesign as far as calls and syntax to author my own scripts, I have not found that reference yet. I believe a reference to scripting wiht InDesign exists and can be found. Our new projects going forward seem like XML and InDesign could provide a workflow that would be efficient and deliver handsome reporting and products - quickly, effeciently and most importantly, accurate. Framemaker seems like a great solution to many of our challenges with many different projects. I am very grateful to all the contributions made on this string. It has been very enlightening. It has also been encouraging to keep InDesign in the mix. Thank you.

Thank you for providing a direction towards resources. I will look into the various paths and resources. It seems the Adobe Experience seems to have all the resources to provide products and services that we provide to our customers. I appreciate the discussion and prespectives presented by all contributors. This short discussion has provided many paths to consider. I am grateful for all insights and perspectives. Thank you.

I would like to explore XML importing into InDesign. I remember taking a course on LinkedIn a few years ago but that course seems to have discontinued. Is XML import into InDesign no longer a workflow option? Our company is looking for new workflow options for some of our dynamic content. Dynamic data publishing for individual records with extensive details as well as reports with image content. I found an old book that seems to be considered the bible of XML, indesign and dynamic publishing. It seems worth getting, reading and learning from it to explore this workflow. My main question is the XML workflow and InDesign past the EOL cycle? If it is still a workflow solution, are there any tutorials on how to build on this old technology?

I have initiated restructing our cloud based collaboration with archiving solutions. We are redesigning our file structure to accoodate this massive shift. We are trying to integrate solutions and forward thinkning to avoid disruption like this in the future. This could have been truly disasterous for us if we were in the heat of our production. Unplugging from Adobe is a serious consideration. I am forecasting 4-8 days of moving, replacing, resharing and republishing many documents and resources. All that on top of new software rollouts. We have just been adobed. Something beyond apologies should be considered by adobe. We are taking time to resturcture as if we were going along with this migration to complete projects in motion. Other digital publishing and production is now in the view finder. A customer ticket has been started with Adobe but no significant help is available at this moment. I like what I hear about the removal of the personal account with an option to transfer within 24 hours. Sounds like a portion of a solution. We will continue on our current track and restructure file structure and sharing policies.

I am trying to figure this out as well. It is very frustrating. Manually? Really? This migration was done programmatically across all accounts. Why wasnt the personal ID movement also done or at least met with a solution? Still searching for a solution.

This is very helpful information. My color brain is moving along again. This color conversion process has provided the last link in this file restoration process. The exports we have generated are working well. The archives now have an update/conversion process that delivers exports with efficiency and color accuracy. Thank you. Thank you all. Adobe Wan Kanobi

Indeed. This string has all the basic knowledge I was looking for. We are going to create a new document for archive restoration. The archived content will be transfered to the conversion file. The new swatch palette will be amended and content colors reassigned. This walk through on the swatch panel has been very informative and has provided us the understanding to deveop a quick conversion process. Thank you.

I have created a new document with default colors. It names the swatches by Color Value. "Cyan", "Magenta", "Yellow" are reserved names so I cannot rename the swatches that way. I will develop one of the suggested work-arounds. Edit > Preferences > General > When Placing or Pasting Content: is not checked/selected. We will adjust our structure and workflow to work with InDesign's limitations with no accessible default swatches. I thought the simplest solution would be to load default palettes. I am assuming they do not exist in a location that is readily accessible. We will work with vendors to achieve a smooth file export that works with their RIPs and Imposition software. I believe they will be able to work with exports without the Color Names. I will research color palettes and swatch imports to see if there are other solutions. Thank you for the suggestions.

Only the PMS spots are in the file currently in the swatches panel. I need Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. They are not currently in the swatches panel. I am adding Cyan, magenta and Yellow items and cannot add those colors to my nearly empty panel. InDesign displays and error message that denies the request to add a "Cyan", "Yellow", "Magenta" swatch. I would like to add the default, CMYK panel or default RGB panel back into some of the archive files we are reactivating.

How do you load default color swatches. I have restored some archived files that only have spot colors in the swatches. I need the default CMYK colors. The panel won't allow me to add them because of naming conflicts. How do I get these swatches back?

Hola. One trick that I have used when I have recieved large, layered PDF files is printing the file to a PS file and distilling the PS file. The settings on the distiller can be set to an acceptable, low resolution setting. When printing the PS file I also use "outlines" for the fonts and subset the fonts. This reduces the possility of editing the PDF afterward but creates a considerably small file. Let me know if that works for you.

This was helpful but still not the solution I was hoping for. I wonder if anyone uses a good amount of the Preflight tools available. They are really nice and can help develop quick actions and processes if you understand them. It is like providing a map to the Grand Canyon trails. Many options still remain. I shall return to PitStop software. This software provided clear and concise ways to achieve all the same goals without having to learn a new language, roadmap and discipline.

I work as a prepress manager. I have used Pitstop and Quite software for imposition and preflight processes. I recently explored the preflight tools in Acrobat DC Pro. This resources is quite complex. It seems that you can manipulate PDF files in a thousand different ways. I have been able to create some processes common to our workflow. Still I do not have a clear understanding on the full steps to create, manage and use this rich resource. The tutorial doesn't seem to go in depth with making this resource proficient. Are there any resources available to help develop a 'profile', ' analysis' or 'fix-up' in ways that would benefit our company's processes.

When browsing through my files online, through the edge browser I right clicked on one folder to share it with my colleague. This is when I noticed the option to "Share to Slack". Once I built a library that contained all the assets I wanted to share across our organization the option was gone. There are a couple of different tutorials that display the option I saw, but the option is no longer there. What happened? Did Adobe remove this option? Here is one link in the help section that contains an image displaying the option I am talking about: Share Adobe Creative Cloud files, libraries, prototypes, and more You can see it about halfway down the page under the section, "Share library assets and mobile creations ". And still one more area I have seen the option: Collaborate on folders and libraries from Creative Cloud account Under the section: "Share libraries using the Creative Cloud website "
