Hi Shark Island, has your PP system settled down at all? I have become quite adept at solving troubling issues with it... we have 4 offline rooms with various levels of cpu gpu etc ... in Sydney and happy to help. Is this Kate Hodges by any chance? all the best, Steve Hopes

Last few days I have started to notice strange things when I use the 'save as' in PP - the forward delete key on my keyboard has become an 'enter' or return key. For example if I type a project name and try to forward delete a character the 'save' button is activated. this is only happening on one workstation in our facility - I have tried everything to fix this to no avail. Machine is a 2019 iMac, 128g ram 1tb ssd, PP v22.6.4 ... the keyboard functions as it should in the Title window and in apps outside PP it just won't forward delete when typing character in the save as window which is a bit unsettling. I have reset prefs - installed a newer version of premiere (we need to stay on V22 due to several editors working on the main project) I have removed my keyboard shortcuts and still this problem persists with the adobe default shortcuts. any help appreciated Steve

Hi Kevin spoke too soon... had to roll back to AME 22.6 due to 22.6.2 crashing my computer.. and this seems to relate to the way the newer version apportions gpu and cpu %'s when encoding canon mxf files for proxies.. AME 22.6 has 97% gpu and purrs along 22.6.2 has 2600 % CPU and 8% gpu which freezes AME and eventually shut down my entire system

I did get a reply from Kevin Monahan suggested a few things none of which worked... so I rolled back to 22.4 which was fine for a while ... just did the 22.6.1 update and did a little test with some C500 UHD clips and seems alright - but I'm probably going to stick with 22.6 for a while if it is solid as we're on a long form series and I don't want to temp fate for a while... just lately all the updates have had really useful new features ... anyway see how it goes 🙂 good luck S

Hi Robert, I had the same with Canon 4K files in AME 22.5 activity monitor had cpu really struggling, seems a little better in 22.6 curiously my Sony FX3 UHD files didn't trouble the cpu hardly at all... I was just about to upgrade to 22.6.1 when I saw your post, I'm a bit gunshy now to do anything as everything we do relies on proxies - bloomin annoying Steve

Thanks Kevin, here is my main thoughts on this problem. 10bit Sony FX3 4K files work perfectly in the "create proxy" AME putting no heavy usage on cpu however Canon mxf 4K files seem to push the AME cpu % consistently above 2000% and then the error appears media encoder cannot continue. the new 22.5 version of pr pro works perfectly. When I tried to export Canon mxf UHD 4K files in AME using create proxies it would work for a while then an error message media encoder had to quit due to a problem. In the activity monitor the cpu usage % was upwards of 2000% for AME while AME was executing these proxy encodes, I can't see how this has anything to do with PP file being corrupted. Anyway on rolling back a version all is well... the cpu % is 600% ish while encoding and the gpu is purring along fine as well. once I have a bit of clear air I will try again. my system is Catalina OS, MacPro 12core 48g ram areca blackmagic 4k extreme my belief if that 22.5 AME on my system is having compatibility issues with the canon mxf 4K files due to they work perfectly in AME 22.4 anyway thanks again Steve

Identical issues with CPU maxing out in activity monitor at 2000% and crashing AME 2022 while making canon 4K proxies - at first I thought it was my machine slowly dying but when I use AME 2020 it just takes 600% CPU in activity monitor while executing the exact same tasks... I will uninstall 2022 version and wait for a fix...

Hello Harm, I have a question Re tx speed in premiere pro... we have 2x offline video editing suites with beefed up 2010 12 core MacPro's - we do long form docu projects which typically run over several years of media acquisition ... the latest being a 4K project which I make HD proxy's for so we are editing in HD. I have a 64TB Raid 5 box with Areca sas card which runs wonderfully well and so far have had no need to rebuild off the back of a faulty drive. My question relates to something that I tried out the other day for fun more than anything else, I linked the project media to a usb backup drive plugged in to the original USB port on the front of the MacPro fully expecting to have all sorts of trouble with transfer speeds etc and to my utter dismay the media in long complex sequences all played perfectly at usb 30mbts tx speed.. I have a metal gfx card and running OS Mojave... now I'm scratching my head wondering why I need the super expensive high speed Areca system when I could put in a usb card and use the much cheaper usb alternatives... any advice much appreciated warmly Steve

Yeah thanks Neil, the AAF results are varied depending on weather I select 'separate or embed' in the PP AAF export dialog but mostly still not linking properly in resolve... frustrating thing is that the offline media in Fairlight is there which suggests to me that this is leaning more towards the Resolve end having an issue... right clicking does nothing to help me link these files in resolve... our favorite post facility has gone DaVinci exclusive and while I can get a working method to get the color grade to them the AAF audio side is largely still problematic - I have a few weeks to sort it out so I will keep plugging away here testing until I get an answer.... any other input would be greatly appreciated... I am getting our offline suite upgraded this week so I can install Resolve 16 which may help. cheers Steve

Just a quick PS... In case it isn't clear in my post... the Premiere to ProTools, Logic and Resolve has worked pretty much perfectly until now and the only thing that I can put it down to is the proxies ... I might try one last time turning off the proxies in the timeline before exporting the AAF and see if that has any bearing on things... stend by Cheers Steve

Hi neil, Thanks for getting back to me. Yes you're right I should have taken the time to be more concise with my issue. Firstly I also have been delivering TV shows, long form theatrical documentaries to HBO BBC ABC here in Australia for many years with very little bother, typically for color I export a hires master (flattened to V1) with an EDL for the colorist to conform the timeline in Baselight or DaVinci which has worked every time and still does. The last few projects have been slightly different in that instead of OMF2 for audio we have been sending AAF's and again very little or no problems. With this current project we have moved to 4K UHD aquisition due to a possible sale to Netflix where previously everything has either been SD or HD. Utilizing PP's proxy workflow for editing which has been brilliant. The proxies folder is next to the originals as per the PP default location for these. We're using PP 14.3 which is the latest version and Resolve Studio 15.3... My best guess is that when exporting an XML or AAF from PP for an offsite DAW the pathways/directories are causing some linkage issues in the destination systems (this is definitely the case with Fairlight) OMF is no longer supported in Resolve so the only way around this for me has been to export audio stems from PP as stereo groups of VX, MX and SFX to be unpacked converted to mono and conformed in Fairlight... this is VERY time consuming however this is all that will work. I will attach some pics and once again maybe it is me but I'm not convinced it is. Cheers, Steve Hopes

I've just spent two days trying to get an AAF from prem pro into resolve....tearing my hair out now! And I'm pretty good at solving these things... the red clips are NOT linked and when right clicked have no option to link to any file

Hi Terry, I had my issue resolved with a call to adobe support - reverted from premiere pro CC 2019 13.0.2 back to 13.0.1 ... same with media encoder went back one version there too ... all perfect again - apparently it is a known issue and will be addressed in the next update.

Hi Neil, The 'eternal' complaints of people not getting what they expect from their software... In our business we make long form documentary films. Over the years of using FCP7 Avid and now Premiere Pro we have encountered many periods where the 'performance' of our systems has left me scratching my head ... why? After spending hours researching and $$'s upgrading and building up a typically 'grunty' systems are we still being plagued by these performance issues... I will pass on a bit of sage advice from a salesman at the retailer that sells us our equipment.... '99.9 times out of a 100 there is a snag somewhere in the chain - of preferences - corrupted workspaces after upgrade - hardware tx speeds - corrupted project files - ONE! corrupted jpeg - the list goes on and on and on... I have had to eat humble pie time and time again when I have had professional troubleshooting done by adobe/apple/avid technicians usually by remote access to my machine, solve these horrible nagging creative roadblocks. The one and ONLY time that I was actually RIGHT was the recent data loss associated with the PP 2017 upgrade for which Adobe acquitted themselves brilliantly albeit after some fairly aggressive nudging from the many users on this forum that had lost data. I guess my point here is - if you have a typically recent and fast machine/raids etc PC or MAC ...then it is more often than not something relating to the operators and their particular systems and not the software engineers... Touch wood We have three longform films in our editing facility at the present time ... all with big long heavily populated timelines with 4K, titles, animated HD clips, etc etc and premiere pro is running smooth as silk... having said that we do not load up the CPU/GPU un-necessarily with a lot of Lumetri processing etc and our broadcaster roughcut screenings are usually prefaced by 'this is mostly ungraded 'flat' log footage.... most of them are fine with that nowadays. We then output files for color and sound post either here on Resolve or depending on budget to another facility... I do get a bit annoyed at people that blame the tools - I used to be one of them and it is the easiest first response to a problem but not always the right one...

Hi Carol, Have you had an Adobe support engineer do a troubleshoot on your system... you allow them access to your machine and they do a little poking around your troublesome project - I was having an issue with slow horrible responses while editing, I had virtually given up. Then I was blown away by what the technician did in a matter of minutes to tune up my system... Like having a virtual home visit from the doctor ǝuoɥdı ʎɯ ɯoɹɟ ʇuǝs

Hi there again, yes the iMac i5 is not really up to the job if she is going to start adding multiple fx etc... I recently had to help friends with finishing a long form docu project - they had an iMac as well with thunderbolt raid... long story short a lot of 4k GoPro files in sequences with HD material... it got very tedious ...but managed to get it done by transferring it to my home studio... A lot of friends & colleagues are going back to 2010 12core Macpros upgraded to 3.46ghz processors... I have 2 of these in our studio facility with 48gb of ram in each - they are reliable - fast and with a USB 3 card pretty much all you need for most tasks that we encounter ie 4k films - fx heavy TVC's - long form documentary etc etc .... I think I would find switching to PC a bit too daunting after years in macland... anyway had a very happy ending to the 2017 PP lost data issues we had ... Adobe were very accommodating with their resolutions cheers steve
