Thank you! I used Notepad (and ChatGPT for instructions on how to display particular elements) and this was a good solution. Thanks again.

Does this mean that it's not enough to use a filtering value of "exclude" - that you also need a filtering value to "include"? THis seems pointless to me. I would assume that it's enough to flag certain elements to exclude (and anything unflagged is included by default)

Hi, In Framemaker there's a toggle to switch to XML view. Is that useful? Thanks...

I have a ditamap with about 40 topics, and each has or should have a ShortDesc element. I want to review and (where needed) edit all of these ShortDesc elements to make them more consistent. How do I do this?

yes, that's exactly right - if I use the appid attribute (like the DITA-bible tells me), then I also want to see that text when I am editing the document. If that is achievable via a template modification, then great! (My Robohelp person says he thinks he can use this type of data when rendering the help...so things are looking up). Now - how do I modify the FrameMaker template? Sorry, I am just a content author...

I can set a value on the id attribute on the resourceid element inside a prolog element.... and at first glance that would seem to be a workable solution... except that based on DITA documentation, this method has been deprecated: Versions of DITA before 1.3 used the @iDattribute on the <resourceid> element to specify an ID for an external application. Beginning with DITA 1.3, this use of the @iDattribute is deprecated in favor of using the @appid attribute. The trouble is, if I use appid instead, then the text that I input there (id string) is not visible in Framemaker. And in order to manage all these strings, I need to be able to see them and list them and so forth... I am happy to use any solution that works. I am sure there are utilities in structured framemaker that makes it easy to list certain elements and edit them easily... (in unstructured framemaker, for example, you can list markers by type, very useful...)

Thanks for helping! Actually, I'm at a loss because the Create Mini TOC command is greyed out. Is there any part of the structured document I should be inserting it at?

I am using Framemaker with DITA, and some of my topics include multiple sections. It would be so great to generate these topics with an automatic miniTOC at the top, listing the sections within the topic...

Actually I just learned that what I need is to create context-sensitive help anchors. I know that the "resource id" element is probably what I need. I also understand that I have to fill out three of its attributes: appid, appname, and ux-context-string. I understand what ux-context-string is, and I have that data, but what values do I use for the other two attributes? Eventually we use Robohelp to output the help...

I need to add custom IDs to certain DITA elements (topics, sections) in my Structured Framemaker documents. In unstructured Framemaker, I used markers. I need to transfer these, or recreate that marker data in my structured FM docs which are in DITA. I can put markers in the DITA file, but I'd rather put them into a proper element so I can find them and manage them more easily. Can anyone help?

I closed everything, then reopened just a file, then the command was available. I guess "Validate" does not produce the same results as the Console.

I would like to validate a Dita file in Framemaker. I have the file open. In the Structure menu, the Validate... command is always grey. What's the trick?

I have a ditamap containing about 30 referenced topics. I can open all files in the ditamap, but I want to adjust the page scrolling view option so that pages are vertical (not side by side). How can I do this for multiple topic files at once??? In unstructured framemaker, you can select files and go to View/Options and set the page scrolling preference for all selected files with one click. In a Ditamap, though, this View-Options command is available only for each separate dita topic file (not for multiple selected ones and not for the ditamap), which means I have to open each topic file and set each file's page scrolling preference separately. Clearly this is not a doable workflow (and we expect to have much larger ditamaps in future.) What's the trick???

Thanks again! Actually, I don't need to open a destination file... I want to navigate within a single file, based on the xrefs. It doesn't work for me...

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've tried double-clicking. This opens the Link dialog box. The links are, as far as I can see, correct. But there's no command there to actually open the linked heading. In Unstructured Framemaker, double clicking a link opens the Cross Reference dialog box, with the handy "Go to Source" button. That's what I want to achieve in Structured. (In Structured, I can open the Cross References pod. There, too, all my links are listed. There's a Go to Location button, but it doesn't do anything.)

Working in FM 2019 32-bit, structuring my document as a Ditamap with nested topics. Links are going fine. When I write a PDF, the links work correctly (all internal links for the time being). But when I am working in the FM file, I click on my links, yet I can't navigate to the clicked item. I try the "Go to Location" button for a listed link in the Cross References pod, and... nothing. (My structured view indicates that all my elements are syntactically correct.) I've got the same document saved as a Composite FM file. The same phenomenon there: the links seem to be fine, but I can't use them to navigate. How do I navigate around??? thanks

Hi, I just upgraded to FM 2017. I'm on Windows 10 using a big monitor, with these settings (see screenshot below): It looks okay, but in fact the program is not usable, because the cursor jumps elsewhere when I try to click into a menu command. The Zoom - Default setting is no solution. Any suggestions? thank you
