Hello folks.

I've seen some scattered reports of slowdowns on Adobe.com sites. I'd like to create this discussion to report these here so I can forward them on to the web team.

Thanks!

I know this is OT but here are some I have attempted to report. All are painfully slow from my vantage point about 40 miles west of Chicago.

http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/index.html

The next one REALLY gets bogged down:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/

And the transition from the previous one to this one sometimes just flat times out:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/categories.cfm?forumid=72&catid=589&entercat=y

I am using a 1.8 GHz G5 desktop with 1.5 GB of RAM. The network is Comcast which is blazing fast. My browser is Safari.

Bob, I find that Safari is also slow. It seems to be a problem with how the page is rendered while the stylesheets are being downloaded (so the page looks crap, jumps around, then looks OK). IIRC, it was reported here earlier.

IE/Win, OTOH, appears to load everything before rendering the page, so you're left with a disconcerting white page, then everything appears at once.

I actually moved Bob's message here from another discussion. Sorry about the confusion.

On dialup during the last 45 minutes, there have been random hiccups here, where nothing happens for a couple of seconds at a time, then all works well, then delay again. I can switch to another site and load a page, so it's not just my connection.

I've had slow downs on nntp. Sometimes there seems to be no response
when asking for the next message. Sometimes it appears, but very slowly.

Right now (12:32 CDT) calling up a thread on the Lightroom general discussion board is s-l-o-w.

I use the Lightroom forums and find them very slow.

They are slow to the point that I think they are having a negative effect on the Beta.

I am not searching as often as I would if the forums were faster and I am limiting what I do in general. Others must be doing the same thing.

This has nothing to do with line speed of all the other forums that I visit Adobe is negatively outstanding.

Right now I am receiving constant notices saying that the server has reinitiated. I receive them with every change I try to do, even when scrolling. This did not happen yesterday.

I only saw it this morning. The URL I'm seeing for this forum in the Firefox window is

http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc127ea/9

and the others should be similar, as I am using my existing bookmarks. I'll just check in the other forum, and if I post nothing in the contrary, it means the rest are similar.

Ok, Thanks. Adobeforums.com is not tied into Adobe.com in any way (except that some links in the header/footer point to Adobe.com).

One of the hosts reported somethings this morning with these forums, but I have not been able to reproduce and the server has not been restarted since last month.

Right now I'm trying to track things at Adobe.com. They're out of my control, but I can pass along the reports.

It was horrid for me yesterday, John. I was trying to post a message and I was able to type 20 or 30 characters without seeing anything in the text field. Then bang, they all appear, and I can type another 20 or 30 invisible characters.

Very strange.

I was wondering if it might be a capacity thing ... the program reports the number of users, and it generally runs 25-30 ... could we have overloaded it the last few weeks with all the Adobe people coming over for a look see?

Then again, I don't know what the simultaneous use is here on the Adobe forums. I would think it would be much more, but I was wrong once a long time ago. Wait, no ...

John, I hadn't noticed that the forums list in www.adobe.com/support/forums/index.html includes now a link to s Spain (MACR) forum in the International Forums section. Naively, I clicked on it to see for my own how the Macromedia forums really look like. I was appalled.

First, there is the question of speed. Using Firefox, it took ages to get anywhere, even after I logged in (things did improve a little then).

Second, it looks as if there is nobody moderating the forum, or something strange is happening with topics. The topic list in the only forum (General Discussion) contained the same topic names several times. Undeleted double postings perhaps? Although "double" falls much too short in some cases.

Third, trying to follow any of the long threads was really a nightmare. Endless quotations of all previous messages, and abundant code included, made it nearly impossible to understand what was going on.

To think that our clear, fast, unclutered Adobe forums could become anything like this made me shudder.

Whoa! I just went to the Macromedia Spanish forums pointed out by Claudio, and there are gazillion links to pirated fonts sources. Does Adobe know this?

John, I see the problem I mentioned in message #14 above has been corrected. I would say that the explanation you gave for it in another topic is right.

One other thing I forgot to mention in my previos message: everything in that forum, except the messages, is written in English. This doesn't look very friendly or polite to me. But I guess that it's just too soon to begin worrying about such details at this stage. In any case, you know where to find me if you want help and/or advise on this.

I haven't had time to check what Ramón says, but have no reason to doubt his word. And it worries me, as it points to the non existence of host/moderators.

Claudio, are your forum preferences over there set to show the forum in English or in Spanish? It is a personal setting, not a site setting.

John, you were right. Changing my preferences to Spanish was an enormous improvement. However, the name of the Private Topics folder didn't change to Spanish. And I have no clue about the meaning or usefulness of "rss feed", but that's just my personal ignorance. I supose.

By the way, after clicking on the Profile button, I had to wait for 13 seconds for anything to happen.

I am not visiting the adobe.com sites at all frequently, so I hadn't noticed. By changing my preferences to Spanish, I get all fixed text in all adobe.com forums in Spanish. This is highly undesirable, at least for me, when visiting forums in other languages.

There are only 17 localized forums (I´m not countig the Japanese ones because I asume they are written in Japanese). I have not visited all of them, but I know some (the Adobe French and German ones for example) are written in the apropriate language. Would it be asking too much to have all 17 in the respective languages?

John, I have just been back to

LINK TO FORUMS

and I am getting at least 8 pager of repeated topics dated 08/08/2006. Curiously, though, they have different posting times.

No host/moderators in that forum either?

I've been having the same experience for the last 5-6 weeks on the Lightroom forums (I've posted there about speed problems too).<br /><br />Example:<br /><br />- I clicked on "Reply" to reply another user's post<br />- 60 seconds later, and I was still waiting for a reply from the adobe.com server<br />- so I pressed <Esc>, and clicked again<br />- 20 seconds later I got the login page<br />- entered my details, then 30 seconds later the "reply to topic" page finally appeared<br /><br />This is not just a one-off - it happens regularly. And doesn't happen regularly on other forums I use.<br /><br />And I agree that it's hindering the Lightroom Beta effort from the Adobe engineers.<br /><br />It can't be *that* difficult to fix - can it?<br /><br />Matt

Still periodically slow with the Safari status bar showing "Contact www.adobe.com" when I go to
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/categories.cfm?forumid=72&catid=591&entercat=y

This also sometimes happens when going from one Lightroom forum to another.

Well, it seems I am lucky. I have "only" to wait for some 12 seconds average for any change to take place: opening a topic, posting a message, each step of the login process, whatever.
