Do I have to follow every branch of a thread to get notified?

It seems like I can follow every "branch" of a thread in this community software, which means I can click on "Follow" in every posting (and the replies to specific posting create a new branch).

When I only follow the top posting (i.e. the initial post), do I get notifications for all postings within this thread (also postings which are answers to other postings)?

No.  When the original post is followed, anytime anyone replies you'll see it in your Notications folder (bell icon) next to your Avatar.
