In addition to the Abuse button, or instead of?

I would say "instead of." The abuse feature gives admins a jumbled mess of items that they have to sort through and figure out what to do with.

For me, I want to get the spam erradicated as quickly as possible without having to wander through a bunch of "he said, she said..." quibbles in the abuse system.

Thanks!

John

Plus, the button does not give us reporters the feedback that a thread such as this, and the ones that it replaces, does. Which I at least find very important.

It looks confusing now.

The link was to the spammer, the PS was referring to "this" (Report spam) thread.

We shall stay here, and avoid the Host Abuse button.

I can well imagine that button being a temptation to people running to teacher if they are on the losing end of a squabble. Why not get rid of it? At least once active forum hosts are in place again everywhere.

Well Kath, at first I was going to agree with you, but on thinking about it (I do that occasionally) I think that the Abuse button could be used for personal attacks and the like, where a sysop has to go in and look through a situation and perhaps make a judgement. Spam, on the other hand, could be reported here and the remaining hosts could quickly go kill it.

Yes, you may well be right - but I tend to think active forum hosts are better able to deal with overly personal stuff as they see it. Any host looking through abuse reports might not want to spend the time to sort out if this is a regular whiner or if there's a real issue.

Standard fare, maybe. But I thought these wonderful new forums were supposed to make that sort of thing much more difficult?

Oh. Wait. What the hell am I saying? This is Jive we're talking about.

Nevermind.

It will be interesting to see if user names can be banned in here as theywere before - only a temporary fix if people were really determined, but a weapon of sorts. Now it *might* mean banning someone's store account. We'll see.

You mean as a punishment for Adobe customers?

A fly-by spammer doesn't need a real store account to get in!
