When I get a file from the remote site to the local site, it looks like a template only in the document window - the content does not appear - I cannot edit it at all. When I view the same file in the local root folder on my computer, it appears as it should. Help!

Yes, Acrobat, InDesign, DeamWeaver, etc. What application. If I was to take a wild guess, I'd say go to the Acrobat Mac or Acrobat PC forums. But I can't truely guess until you state which application.
