Hello everyone,I was reading the forums here and I see a lot of questions concerning licensing of fonts with some very competent people replying. I'm hoping that someone can clarify my position regarding font licensing.I'm a new small publisher in the UK, and intend to make print on demand books via Lightning Source. I hadn't quite appreciated the scope of font licensing and want to make sure I get it right.I need to purchase or license a font for use in the books I'll be publishing. The font will only be used on my computer for typesetting. The font will then be embedded in a non-editable PDF to go to Lightning Source, who only use the file to print physical copies of the book.I will also be doing eBooks but these will NOT have any fonts embedded in them. I only make this clear because some licenses seem to differ if you're commercially selling an electronic file with the font embedded. The only file that will have it embedded is the PDF which is itself not sold, only used for printin
I have the Hypatia Sans pro font and according to the character set there are two different a's in the font - but I can only access the standard one and not the one which has a circle with vertical line (don't know what the correct term would be). I use Mac OSX, does anyone know how do to this...?I can find it in the Font Book as Glyph 264, but I can't find it in the Character Viewer...
A single character U+06DD is no longer appearing in my Adobe InDesign exported PDF's. It views properly in InDesign CS5 ME and prints properly, but when it is in text exported as a PDF for Print, it disappears. I recently switched from InDesign CS4 ME to InDesign CS5 ME and that could possibly be the cause, but the real question is, how do I get it back? What could be making it disappear?
I recently purchased Font Folio 11 for a customer. I am not familiar with the software. When attempting to install, I realized there are no install files. Am I missing something?
I saw a neon, tubular type font years ago that I really liked. I was it in someone's signature on a gaming forum. I haven't seen that exact same font available anywhere to download or purchase. The font was very colorful, shiny, and kind of in cursive. The example below is not what I am looking for, but it gives you any idea of the tubular, shiny, and colorful look.I'd appreciate it if anyone here could point me in the right direction to find the font I'm trying to describe. I'm hoping it is available from a reputable source, like Adobe.
Hi forum,My name is Riaz,a web designer and developer. I have Genuine photoshop CS4 and it has been bundled with several adobe fonts. I would like to use those fonts in my own website (not for others) by using @11220649-face option in CSS3. I think it is not like embedding and I am not sure about it. I like "Trajan Pro" and it gives "editable embedding" license, so is this allows embedding in a web page.I use to obey the licensing terms every where , so I am not requesting anybody to provide anything free but I need help to know whether it is legal or illegal. So ,Kindly somebody help me to go in a right path.with kind regardsRiaz
Just purchased Adobe CS5 standard and need to know how to enable typing or adding text...via frames perhaps...thanks, maggie
I'm using the Arno Pro type family for a book in InDesign CS4 - the font came free with CS3. There's a weird issue with the font name in paragraph styles.I define a body text paragraph style with Arno Pro regular as the font, but when I click Edit Style and the Paragraph Style Options box opens up, in the General settings, you normally get a text listing of all of that style's attributes. However, with Arno Pro as the base font, this dialog lists only the font size, leading, and all other settings, but NOT THE FONT NAME. For all other fonts, this "Style Settings:" box includes the font name as well as other specs. The reason this is a problem is that I have two Indesign CS4 documents with the same styles in them. Yet, when I copy some body text from one file and paste it into the other, the text picks up Times TT as its font.I believe there is something screwy about the way Arno Pro assigns its font names, and I even think I read that Adobe has since upgraded the font, but I can'
Word 2010 Beta represents a step forward in typographical features. It allows one to select between old style figures and lining figures, automatic substituion of ligatures, choice of style sets, etc., when using OpenType fonts. It does not, however, seem to have an easy way of selecting true small caps. With many of my Adobe fonts--those that came with my purchases of Design Suite CS3 and CS4--one can select the small cap glyphs, one by one, from Word's Symbol panel (the equivalent of InDesign's Glyph panel). While not ideal, that is doable since small caps are commonly used for acronyms, but not for large sections of text. With Adobe Caslon and Arno, however, the small caps are not encoded into the Private Use Area of the fonts and seem not to be accessible at all in Word. One work-around for Adobe Caslon might be to find an old Adobe Caslon TT or Type 1 small caps font, but it appears that Adobe never released any TT or Type 1 fonts for Arno.Arno is one of my favorite fonts. I'd like
I have a plan to make online flashgame on facebook for commercial (like playfish or zynga flashgame) and I want to use a font from adobe name "Lithos Pro Black" here is url (https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&event=displayFont&code=LITP10019000)I'm not sure this font allowed to embed in flashgame on facebook for commercial?I just chat with adobe agent via online chat support and she told me that I can use this adobe font in flashgame on facebook, but don't have ready information on the website. If someone know this issue please confirm me that if I buy font from adobe("Lithos Pro Black"), can I use "Lithos Pro Black" font in my flashgame for commercial? Thanks for every answer
I've used AGaramond for 20 years. All of a sudden in Mac Leopard (10.5.8) AGExpert no longer works. Adobe Garamond Regular, Alternate, Titling, etc all work fine, but the Expert fonts (small caps, old-style numbers, ligatures, etc) no longer work (Expert Regular, Semi or Bold). They come up blank. In Font Book, they are all noted as Active, but the characters are blank. Is there a solution? I know that Adobe now sells all these fonts as a family instead of how I originally purchased them. Do I have to now re-purchase the font that I have imbedded in thousands of documents?? Will the newer "family" version of Adobe Garamond (that contains all the expert and alternate characters) work, or will I continue to have problems? Thanks.Expert still works in 10.4.11 in most programs including Quark XPress. However, even Adobe Garamond doesn't work in Apple's Pages . . . there, it's a conglomeration of regular and strange alternate glyphs.

I was wondering if anybody knows for certain if fonts included in Adobe and Microsoft programmes are free? For example, I am designing a logo for a company. Can I use one of the fonts on Illustrator, eg. "Baskerville Old Face" without somebody saying I nicked the font? Are all the preinstalled fonts allowed to be used by anybody for anything?Thank you.
Hello everyone - apologies if this is not the appropriate section to post this question.I own CS4 Design and cannot find the Futura font family. I was under the impression that this font was bundled with all Adobe products. Can anyone confirm for me whether or not this font should have come with CS4 Design?Thank you!
I have just fished my old version of Fontographer 4.1. Does anyone know if there is an update available to make this work out of the Classic environment. Or do I need to purchase a brand new version 5.0?I am running MacBook Pro 10.6.4
Does anyone know what font this is?thanks,Kerri
What are some things to look for in a well designed paid or free font? How do I know if it will print nicely? What can I look for after typing some text in Photoshop or Illustrator to ensure that it is high enough quality for printing? Thanks.
I'm using Windows 7 now and CS5. Used to use suitcase for my temporary fonts needs, but I hear of users having problems with it now. Problems deactivating, ghost fonts in de windows/fonts folder etc. So I'm looking for alternatives.Which are the best font managers for windows 7? I want to be able to temporarily install fonts from e.g. cd's or usb drives. But without it touching the windows/fonts folder so when I deactivate the font it won't make the windows/fonts folder bigger or mess up my windows installation in other ways. Preferably it should have auto-activation plugins for cs5 too. Don't know if suitcase 3 has improved much? Can it really make the windows/fonts folder bigger when installing temporary fonts? Or mess up the build in Windows Font Manager like it's said in forums?Anyway, don't know of other, better, most used tools but basically it should do the same as suitcase dit. Organise font sets with the fonts being located in my own folders instead of windows/fonts. Activate/
I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. I am writing a how-to book about beading. In my "about the author" section I have a tiny picture of my dog. The picture is in black and white and is about 1 inch by 1 inch. Just for fun I dressed him up in a costume using two Elements graphics (a hat and glasses in their full color). I have given an acknowledgement that the costume is created using graphics from Adobe® Photoshop® Elements® 6. Is this correct? Okay? or not allowed at all? I am just a regular layperson who cannot make heads or tails of the end-use information. I don't want to send the book to print if I a making a mistake here.Any answers or information would be greatly appreciated.Beth Stonewww.bethstone.com
Anybody who has this old documentation?
Specifically Arial Narrow. It is a true type font. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them. I also am having this issue switching from Office 03 to 07. My office is currently transitioning to CS5 but I can't fully switch until I know I can make these fonts work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
For a journal that I lay-out that regularly features articles on linguistics and related subjects, I'm looking for new fonts both for main text and for headlines. The problem is that I need fonts that include complete sets of IPA phonetic symbols, Cyrillic with extensions (including obscure Abkhaz letters etc.), Greek with extensions, Latin extended additionals, etcetera. Of course, Times New Roman has all of this, but I prefer to use something slightly more 'elegant'. For headlines, I do not need IPA, Greek, and Cyrillic, by the way, but I do need the Latin extended additionals (including for example the letter m with a dot above or below for Sanskrit transcription).Currently I use Palatino for the main text, which necessitates me to switch to Times New Roman wherever necessary letters or symbols are missing (which happens rather frequently). For headlines I use a sans serif font that looks a it like Optima. I'd prefer to find somewhat similar fonts (and, of course, two fonts that go
Hi,I'm writing an opentype parser, and right now while parsing CFF blocks using Adobe's Kozuka Mincho Pro R font, version 4.001, I am getting strange results: The width values that I find for glyphs based on the charstring appear to be the right values, but when I do a quick SVG verification, making a rectangle with the glyph's width and then drawing the glyph inside it, the width of the bounding box for the character and the indicated glyph width do not match. For instance, the glyph for plain lowercase latin 'j', index 75, has the follow charstring according to "tx":[tx -6 -g 75 KozMinProR.otf]## glyph[tag] {cid,iFD,LanguageGroup,path}glyph[75] {75,12,0, 266 width ... endchar}When I fetch the data associated with this letter, my parser gives me the following data:{"letter":"j", "width": 266, "height": 970, "baseline" : 880, "bounds" : [-107,-268,189,702], "path" : "m139 702c-29 0-50-25-50-64c0-39 21-63 50-63c29 0 50 24 50 63c0 35-18 64-50 64m46-194l-10 6c-45-26-78-38
Not sure if this is the right forum, but searching did not deliver any good results.I am a product developer and want to use a particular font on a new product. Is buying the font for use on my computer enough to allow me to 'print' with it on my product?
