Video Hardware

My question is which of the following I should invest in...(a) a 3.1 GHz quad-core Intel core i5 iMac with 16 GB memory??or(b) a 3.7 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 Mac Pro desktop with 12 GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory??Firstly, I edit with Premiere Pro CC.I shoot on a DSLR platform and am looking at investing, also, in one of these Atomos monitors that record raw / ProRes (?)  signals from something like a Canon 5D Mk III. I plan to shoot the occasional 4K video using a GoPro camera, but would immediately crop/convert it for edit and output to 1080p.  I plan to also use my GoPro to shoot 1080p video at up to 120 fps. I do light 2D effects with After Effects (mainly titles and green screen), but no 3D rendering whatsoever.Output would be no greater than 1080p.Lastly, I would need to connect two monitors and an external drive with FW800 or USB 3.0.Is the Mac Pro required for the work described above, or could I get away with the iMac?  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

We have a need for a notebook computer for onsite work. Budget is not unlimited but willing to spend for a system that will suit our needs including working with some 4k material. One of the models we've zeroed in on is from Sager:https://www.sagernotebook.com/customize.php?productid=1112Primary question is, given all the numerous HD configuration options, what makes the most sense? HD w/ RAID? Just multiple SSDs without RAID? Would working with external Thunderbolt HDs be another way to go?Probably go with 32GB of RAM and stick with the default 1060 card over the 1070?Any/all informed input much appreciated.

My computer works perfectly with two screens in any program except adobe premiere and after effects, it always gives these errors, I changed the operating system to w7, w8.1, w10, any idea what it might be?

I am looking to build a new computer due to my current one having a myriad of different issues, and secondly because I want to upgrade my overall computing power to allow for faster rendering than I am currently capable of. I plan to build this from scratch; from casing to processor. Most of my work is done in After effects, but there are several programs I will be using. Any recommendations of parts or what to look for would be appreciated. Hi.first i apologize for spelling mistakes, English is not my mother language and i don't wanna open dictionary for every word.since version 12.3 i have problems with my cards (gtx 970 and gtx 760 on diffrenet computers).I am tired of asking for salutions, since i tried almost every thing and didn't find one. i can only work on the newest versions of premiere if i set the app to this mode: mercury playback engine software only, insted of mercury playback engine GPU (cuda).my question is - what's the difference between the two.uri.

I have an older video card, a 1.2GB Nvidia GTX 570. I also have a sandy bridge 2600k with 16gb of RAM. I know my computer is getting old at this point and that I could stand to upgrade all of it, but I cannot afford that right now. I've been noticing issues, particularly with 4K footage. Sometimes the source window will go black and I'll have to reboot. Sometimes rendering is horrifically slow, other times not. Seems like it's booting me into software rendering. Other times it outright crashes.  It's always with 4K footage, never 1080p, so I feel like it's an issue with my video card not being capable, like perhaps the memory is insufficent for 4K If I upgraded to a GTX1060 or 1070, would that least alleviate my crashing problems? I know the card is going to be bottlenecked by the rest of my computer, but right now I'd be happy to just it not crash and run consistently (albeit slow) with 4K stuff.Does that seem sensible? I'm looking to upgrading my R9 380 to an RX 480 and would like to know if it will be supported by CC programs like Premiere Pro 2017 and After Effects 2017 for OpenCL. Currently, my R9 380 works with hardware acceleration even though it doesn't seem to be listed in the supported graphics cards list here:Premiere Pro System Requirements for Mac OS and WindowsIf my R9 380 works with these programs and it's not on that list, will the RX 480 also work even though it's not on the list? And where can I find the list of supported graphics cards if I'm looking at the wrong page? Thanks in advance.

Right now I'm editing a Wedding on my Custom Built PC. Its a beefy machine with...i7 4790k Overclocked to 4.2ghz32GB of RAM480GB SSD WorkdriveGTX 1070I'm in Premiere Pro 2017, and although I have a large timeline, I'm editing off an SSD, and the CPU doesn't seem to be working very hard, but the lag is THROUGH THE ROOF, with almost 10 seconds of delay between Mouse movements, and Premiere almost crashing! The weirdest thing of all is the SSD doesn't seem to be touched, yet my C Drive (OS Drive) that Premiere is installed on seems to be jumping to 100% at times, and reading at sometimes as low as 0kbbps! So my question is....is the SSD bad? What other options do I have to trouble shoot this...I have had this issue before, but with my machines power, it really shouldnt be acting up like this!

Hi, considering that I must buy a new video card for Premiere Pro CC 2017, I am undecided among the 980, the Titan, or the 1060. Which do you recommend me? Does The 980 work as a card recommended by Adobe for GPU acceleration (CUDA)? Does The Titan have different versions which I must take? Which do you recommend me between the Titan and the 1060? Looking at purchasing an external drive for working in AE, PS and PR on a Retina 2012 (2,6 - 16gb ram - 512 ssd).My work is split between AE (70%), PS (20%) and PR (10%), working a lot with still images (animation). Right now, everything's done internal, cache, footage, previews, exports.Did a disk speed and then a render test with my Buffalo Ministation 1TB USB 3.0. Surprisingly (to me), it took only 15% longer for a a short sequence to render compared to my internal SSD. Isn't that strange?I did another render test of a very short sequence (40mb) and now it took one second longer  writing to the internal SSD.Below: First speed test is the Buffalo, the second internal ssd.I was looking at Samsung T3 250GB, SanDisk Extreme 500 and Crucial MX300 (in an Inateck USB 3.0 enclosure) to use for Footage, Preview and Exports.Is it true that there are stability/ heating issues when running a (500gb and above) SSD on a Macbook USB 3.0 port?Is there single-drive-non-SSD solution that anyone

I'm trying to setup my new computer and it's hard drives to be as good as they can for my use. It's an iMac i7 with 16GB RAM and 4GB graphics card (AMD Radeon M395x). I am using a workstation - Dell with xeons, twin quadros, blah, blah, loads of memory, fast disks, windows 10 x64 - using mp4 or MTS from Sony RX 10 ii or A7Rii, I get stuttering playback when using any Premiere Pro version beyond 2014 (stuttering audio also). This stuttering happens regardless of cuda or software only renderer...it is the Premiere Pro versions beyond 2014 that is at fault!   Adobe - please fix this! I am paying for this software - I want and need it to work!To describe the stuttering more precisely - when a seq is set to play in proj or source window, the cursor appears to step forward then step back, forward again, etc. However, the seq will render ok!Nevertheless, it is impossible to work through an edit when the gui is reacting as I describe

We're planning on upgrading our almost 8 year old PC, It's good, but is being pretty slowI'd like to use Thunderbolt 3 for an external storage solution (If you've got any recomendations for that as well I'd appreciate it greatly)So far I'm planning on using an i7-6800k, Noctua NH-D15S 140mm, EVGA GTX 1070 6GB, and Samsung 960 pro 512GB (For C, apps, and working) CORSAIR AX860i 860W; With an internal raid 10 with WD Blacks (Probably 4 4TB drives).I've looked at the Asus X99-DELUXE II; but I figured I'd get all of your opinions first.Anybodys thoughts on what I've picked thus far would be much appreciated as well.Thanks! p.s. Hi allJust a general question around GPU expansion. I'm on a new Mac Pro/trashcan and like a lot of people have been frustrated by the fact you can't swapout the graphics card, the optimal aim being to move away from AMD back to glorious Nvidia being a better match with Prems.. Will i get perfomance/render improvement if I add a GPU expansion box (What’s the Deal with GPU Expansion, Anyway?) via thunderbolt and throw a Nvidia card into that?Thanks Jeff

Hi, I just want to be able to do some video editing on the go, when I can't do it at home.. is it possible with the hardware configuration mentioned in title if I used proxy files and/or quarter resolution playback and the like?

I have a question...do I need to purchase a GPU that has been recommended by Adobe?  I would like to get the GeForce GTX 1070 but this card and many others that I'm interested in are not listed.  I just want to make sure I make the best choice for fast rendering and no crashes!  I currently have the Radeon R9 370 installed and with the new update of Premier 2017, it crashes all the time!  Very frustrating.  I do know this card is not recommended by Adobe.Any help?Thanks..my system:Moved to Hardware forum by mod.
