The latest release is an insulting piece of software, clearly rushed out the door without any quality control or consideration for stability. It's unusable. I've downgraded to 2019 and began forcing myself to learn Resolve. It's utterly insulting how awful the 2020 release is. Shame on Adobe.

I've been a Adobe user for as long as I can remember, so naturally I get the general negative experience using the Creative Cloud software. But I am TRULY floored with just how unstable and generally unusable the latest Premiere Pro release is. It's by far the worst thing to come out of the company for decades. It's crashes CONSTANTLY and is an abysmal piece of software. How could anyone be allowed to ship this.  As much as I truly hate to learn a new product, I will be forced to dive deeper into Resolve. 

Hey there, I'm in my mid-50s. I'm pretty old school in the editing game, as are some on this board. As I was writing about my past experience in a post, I decided to put my thoughts down here instead.    Moviola I was talking to Walter Murch over lunch one day (great day!) and he remarked that he was only a handful of people in the entire world that still knows how to cut on Moviola.    As an aside, I just hosted a SF Cutters User Group meeting where Janice Engel was also talking about cutting celluloid on Moviola. She did this little "toe tap" kind of motion or dance. You could tell this was ingrained into her rote memory, as it is in Walter's.    I know that Walter is somewhat interested in doing a short film or doc about those that are still alive that still have some connection to cutting on Moviola. Stability has never been a mainstay of CC but honestly, the latest Premiere Pro update (OS X) in conjunction with the past few years of miserable problems has me looking at FCP-X, Resolve and other solutions for our Production Company - and you can bet I'll cancel my CC membership if and when we do jump ship.  SO — TIRED OF SLOW CRASHING PREMIERE UNDER OSX.Yeah...not posting specs etc because I'm done investing hours into documenting issues that will either be ignored or have changed by the next software release.  Adobe - (or at least other OS X Premiere users) YOU know what you (Adobe) did 😕😕Mod Note: Warning. YES , i can totally feel and understand your pain. I'm just back from work where I, again in vain, tried to get the CC20 at least semistable to work. Our machines are even on a higher level then yours , but ...no way to get any windowsversion to playback stable without stutters a.s.o. (interesting fact: the OSX-version runs really good now ...just sitting in front of one) Using JKL causes reproducable freezing videooverlays or super jerky playback. And you forgot to mention the most hated issue ...the subscription model ... that , in combination with this totally broken software since 2 years now (since 12.1) , and the behaviour of this only profit driven company was clearly too much for us.   And here is the good part . We / I am in a way more covenient position right now. We quitted / I Left ! (my current investigations are only for technical reasons) We changed everything , and every plan to another product. well, I ordered the 4k bmpcc just now from B&H. If you think YOUR ears get red when you hear some of the stuff I say to YOU, than trust me, what I wrote to the friend who sent me the original bmpcc with blemishes on chip is WAY more bonkers.... one of the world's best cinematographers ( really ) ... and I am totally freaked out about this whole mess.   So, now the cleaning thing is moot. I'll shoot full HD and have the xtra good thing of being able to shoot 120 fps. With the latest 15 version of resolve I should be cool with braw, but if not I can go with prores.   batteries, lenses, adapters, cards, should all be compatible. PORTION of full cage on original should fit the 4k.   So that's over.    

Thanks Neil.. what I ordered has 2 cleaners... one for dust normal stuff and one for more serious stuff ( like if it was a DSLR with mirror oil splattered onto chip ). I am hopeful and thank you for info !    

I've cleaned several sensors with a kit ... had both a cleaner solution and a sort of flat or paddle-type Q-tip like tool.   Dampened the paddle, wiped across the sensor a couple times, and it dislodged the troubling gunk or whatever. Wasn't too bad to do.   A friend's cam had a spot I couldn't get rid of as gently as I'm willing to treat a sensor. We took it to a local camera shop we trusted, and they said yea, sometimes things can be kind of stuck. And for those things they had a higher-powered cleaner solution. Watched him do exactly what I'd done, but with his cleaner ... and bazappo the spot was gone.   Neil

Here's a nice solution, after getting tired of Neil's egotism.... and stupid info...   " RESET YOUR PREFERENCES ! "   good grief...   I haven't had resolve crash a single time on a stupid gaming laptop and I'm using BM raw, Log 3, and DNxHD and Prores... and NEVER have problems even though I can only see the source or program monitor at any time, due to small screen size... just can't see both like on my desktop.  But really... I never have trouble with color or something 'darker' than export or any of that junk... give me a break.    

Well, one variable out the window,  which  makes me less anxious.... I swapped out the MFT lens with a full chip nikon lens ( with metabones adapter ) and now that I know where the blemish is, could see it right away on LCD... don't even need to shoot nothin.. .is plain to see. So, it's not the lens...and the chip is it for sure. That makes me feel better... odd as it sounds.   🙂  

2 more days until cleaner and swabs arrive. It's making me sick to stomach ...worrying about whether I can get it clean.   I used this image (put into editor turn on safety ( to have something to focus on ) and make full screen, and it's good for the 'smudge' stuff.. white is OK for dust ( which looks solid black ) but it didn't work for smudge.  

Best wishes on the cleaining. Over the years we've had a couple times where getting one spot of a sensor clean was a royal pita. Thankfully it's not been a big problem most of the time.   Neil

I went to Pratt for art and majored in photography, and being into 'art' there was a certain subtle ability re: being able to deal with color and tone and so on.. you know.. like " art " with a big A The spot stuff were tones and you had to mix it with water as per necessary match... so you used a photo paper to test it before using it on the actual print you were fixing..it's not that hard.. just do it in increments, similar to color and tonal corrections with NLE now.  Don't rush. Test, compare, keep going. Took tons of time though... especially with those tiny little sable brushes that you licked with tongue to get to a pointed brush shape. In those days everything took time and time respected what took time, cause the product was pretty good. I am worried about all the automated short cuts now,, the loss of patience and willingness to spend time doing nice work these days... and that's why I'll stay with resolve 15 cause the next thing is starting to automate stuff to get user

We had staff to do the spotting ... and other print artwork. For over twenty years we had a full bw/color production wet lab to support our studio and the printing we did for other picky sots.   I was horrible at spotting. NEVER once got a spot to look normal. The missus and the art-staff could do it first time every time splat done. "It's so freaking easy why can't you do it?"   Yea ... I could make little circles of dye with a clear spot in the middle. I can't post messages for some reason, so I kinda dwell with stuff and keep active a little. This is the new THE BLOB test... from bmpcc ... and as you may or may not see it is UGLY.   I THINK it's the chip and cleaning stuff is in the mail ...   I will say that there are 'planes' in images. Their is also 'grain'. Grain can be beautiful, but dust and smudges are ugly. Flares ( like anamorphic) are 'fads' and also another plane ( on top of 3d image in 2d represenation). Being sorta perfectionist about stuff one tends to control these things for a purpose. Remember using spot tone ( 1,2,3 ) to make B&W prints perfect when dust was on negative ?? That created a plane on top of image that was ugly unless it was fixed. Tiny little brushes, etc.  The BLOBS are ugly and I don't like them.   I am extremely bummed out.  Cleaner on way.   If, on top of everything else going on, I had to deal with stupid stuff cause an NLE is not working right, I would go bonkers

Fun post ... had some good chuckles.   Forum response times around the world ... jeepers ... it's relatively "good" here in the States, much of Europe. Leave there, it gets messier. The Australian folks are frequently waiting for freaking EVER for a simple page to completely fill ... and then a bit later, it's running fine again ... oh, wait, never mind ... it's slow again.   So for a few of the Aussies, between the new forum's major issues and their regular bizarre speedup/slowdown behavior ... well ... they've tried to resort to humor rather than axes. They have all my sympathy.   In my little town in Oregon, we've got very good "speed". I'm so grateful, as patience when web pages load slowly is not one of my stronger character traits.   But then again, re-creating workspaces continually in Premiere ain't no fun neither. So like anyone else, I'll be thrilled to get that GONE.   Neil

you know how databases are backed up and replicated in international companies ? You may not, but basically it's complicated. Like Ford wants to know what cars got sold in the U.S. ( and all over the world) so it can figure out what's left to sell before new models are coming out, stuff like that... so the servers ( there are many and they are located at many different places ) need to sorta 'synchronize' at times..and it has to happen very fast and accurately so the database doesn't get corrupted... like let's say two car dealers sell the exact same model at the exact same time and it gets posted at the exact same time...there needs to be ways to deal with all that ... and imagine how it is with financial instruments... exchanges, fiber optic trading, etc...  I think this forum is sometimes laggy for me in MN.   Like I don't think I always SEE replies that have been made until later on or something... there seems to be some weird stuff going on even on that level, but at lea

A lot of us users thought the old Jive forum had bad issues. Which it did. There have been calls for years to move to something better. And "we" users were told they were moving (finally) to a better forum software.   And yet, with the move, they went to something with FAR more "issues" than Jive had. Really ... I mean, that was not easy to do. They have fixed some of the worst things, I give them credit for that. But ... for launching here with a nearly unusable mess at first, and still not having resolved some major functional things ... "not the best handling of the situation" is being very polite. Which one should try to be in public.   The total posts are down with the new software from my experience. "Searching" for older information can be spotty or lacking. Some of the people who handled certain types of questions more than others have simply found this current forum too irritating or time consuming, and either spend less time helping or simply don't "pop in" at all.

I've been going bonkers over the smallest things for the past few weeks...and I think it has a lot to do with the news reports and newspapers. Students in Hong Kong about to get machine gunned to death, people in Iran burning things due to gas prices, South American countries going nuts. Mexican army getting shot up by Cartel so they release a bad person in custody, Homeless people by the thousands in the cities (with winter coming ), U.K. unable to leave EU ( like the roach motel, you can get in but you can't get out). Bloomberg who bought his way into a 3rd term as mayor of NY now a democrat looking to buy D.C. and be president for LIFE ( after buying congress and judicial system )... this list is endless..... Even a nice bird that landed on my window sill this morning got yelled at cause he didn't fly to the seeds in his bird feeder instead.   I noticed a lot of people stepped in and answered lots of questions that had been ZERO replies...so that's good.   As for the rest

Truly intriguing this human interaction thing.   I've been quite comfortable with telling quite a few users over the last few years that for what they need, different software is the better choice ... including Resolve. As I say repeatedly, these things are just tools. Fancy hammers. You like Resolve a lot, as do many friends and acquaintances. Great. Work away. And let the Adobe development team know why you're working with Resolve rather than Premiere while you're at it. The UserVoice system goes right to the engineering team and in collated form to the managers who decide budgets.   I'd love your to tell them why you prefer Resolve, all the things it does better. Let them know what you don't like about Premiere. More info, more data, more better. BlackMagic has been putting a ton of work into Resolve, and has brought that app's capabilities outside of color a long way in a hurry. Competition being the best thing for the users ... that's good. I wonder what smart people have used to clean the chips of their cameras. I ordered some stuff and hope I made the right choice. How annoying.   You wanna hear something funny about this forum ( for me ?? ) a) I use Edge with cookies off, and I can't post messages in the forum. No clue why not. b) I got a notice the other day from adobe when I went to log in, which said, " For security purposes we need to to change your password."  Trouble is, I was using a password that was the same as my email account with google. So when I went to change my password the google password would no longer work. I couldn't log into my own email. Luckily I got it back via some private secret questions and answers, and changed stuff but it was very weird... Took about 20 minutes to fix it..    Does anyone notice there are a lot of questions with like ZERO replies ???   Is that because the questions are too stupid to bother with ??    

Salvo,   If you like the layout of the Resolve UI, you're most welcome to it. I know some other folks I work with who do really like it. Which is fine, different strokes & all. I've been around a ton of discussions between folks who like the UI of Resolve, Avid, AfterEffects, Mistika, Baselight, whatever ... and don't like some of other UIs. We all like things a bit differently.   However ... I detest the Resolve layout. It annoys me no end, and there is almost no ability for the user to change things. I've worked within what Resolve Studio allows, tried every control there for modding the UI. And of course up until around now you've not been able to do a full-screen "monitor out" unless you had additional BM hardware in your machine. Which I don't.   So I've been limited to at most a quarter-screen program monitor up until now. No, that was not usable. And only two screens max. Of course, Resolve also throttles WAY back what you can do with a Tangent Elements contro
