Description

Issue

After updating Photoshop to version 27.11, Photoshop no longer detects my NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU.

Photoshop shows:

  • GPU not supported
  • DirectX unavailable
  • Insufficient VRAM (0 MB of 1500 MB required)
  • GPU Detected: Unknown GPU

In Preferences > Performance, the Graphics Processor Settings section shows:

Unknown GPU (UNKNOWN)

and Use Graphics Processor is disabled.

System configuration

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition (96 GB)
  • GPU mode: WDDM
  • NVIDIA Driver: 596.36
  • CUDA Version reported by nvidia-smi: 13.2
  • DirectX: DirectX 12
  • Direct3D DDI: 12
  • Feature Levels: 12_2, 12_1, 12_0, etc.
  • Driver Model: WDDM 3.2
  • Display Active: Yes
  • System RAM: approximately 208 GB
  • Secondary GPU: NVIDIA T400 4GB (disabled during troubleshooting)
  • This is a local workstation. No virtualization or remote desktop is being used.

The RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition was switched to WDDM/display mode using the NVIDIA Display Mode Selector Tool.

Diagnostics

Windows and NVIDIA correctly detect and use the RTX PRO 6000.

dxdiag reports:

  • NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition
  • VRAM: approximately 96 GB
  • Direct3D DDI 12
  • Feature Level 12_2 available
  • WDDM 3.2
  • DirectX 12 Ultimate enabled

nvidia-smi reports:

  • Driver Model: WDDM
  • Display Active: On
  • 97887 MiB VRAM
  • Driver 596.36

Other GPU-accelerated applications, including Autodesk 3ds Max 2026, work normally on this GPU.

Photoshop's sniffer.exe also detects the GPU through OpenCL:

  • NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition
  • Preferred: TRUE
  • VRAM: 102641 MB
  • OpenCL 3.0 CUDA
  • Exit code: kExitNormal

However, Photoshop 27.11 still reports the GPU as Unknown GPU and disables GPU acceleration.

Important regression test

This exact hardware configuration and NVIDIA driver worked correctly in Photoshop before the 27.11 update.

I downgraded Photoshop from 27.11 to 27.9.1 without changing the NVIDIA driver, Windows configuration, GPU mode, or hardware.

Photoshop 27.9.1 immediately detects:

NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition (NVIDIA)

and Use Graphics Processor becomes available and works normally.

Updating to Photoshop 27.11 causes the GPU detection failure.

Therefore, this appears to be a GPU detection regression introduced in Photoshop 27.11, specifically affecting this GPU/configuration.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Use NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition in WDDM/display mode.
  2. Install NVIDIA driver 596.36.
  3. Run Photoshop 27.11.
  4. Open Preferences > Performance.
  5. GPU is reported as Unknown GPU and GPU acceleration is unavailable.
  6. Install Photoshop 27.9.1 on the same system without changing the NVIDIA driver or GPU configuration.
  7. Photoshop correctly detects the RTX PRO 6000 and GPU acceleration works.

Expected result

Photoshop 27.11 should detect the NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition and enable GPU acceleration, as Photoshop 27.9.1 does.

Actual result

Photoshop 27.11 reports Unknown GPU / 0 MB VRAM / DirectX unavailable and disables GPU acceleration.
