Thanks Mylenium, I went back & checked my original notes & There is a warning that the cursor should be placed at least a half-inch away from any other areas of contrasting color to avoid contaminating the color sample.

In a Web tutorial a while ago I found a novel way to pick a Magic Wand Reference color that avoids an accidental color choice from a single pixel. To avoid selecting unintended single pixel colors with the Magic Wand, one can instead select an average Reference color value. To do this, first go to the Color Picker tool (shortcut = I) & select either the 3x3 or 5x5 pixel selection in the Options bar. Then switch to the Magic Wand & take the color sample by clicking an appropriate spot in the image. The selection should have the AVERAGE color value of the group of pixels under the cursor rather than a chance color pick from a single pixel. Has anyone verified this either in the PSE or the PS Magic Wand tools? I did tests on a color border area that had some unexpected results. The MW Contiguous setting was set to ON & the Tolerance to 2, a small color range. In the single pixel color sample (top image), the selection looks as expected with very narrow color range centered on the crosshair guides where the samples were taken. But the 5x5 image (bottom image above) seems to have totally ignored the MW Tolerance setting but conformed to the Contiguous setting. It includes a broader range of colors perhaps centered around the average color of the Color Picker setting. I expected the two selections to likely be colored differently & the 2nd selection to be uniformly colored with an average color value. Somehow, this process allowed a wide color range around that average. Any thoughts about these rersults?

I have noticed that Nikon Nef raw files converted to PSD files are about twice as large as those converted to TIF files. What is stored in the PSD files that's not stored in the TIF?

Mystery Pixel Dimensions number For years now I have wondered about this number (48.4 in the attached image). I have never been able to perform a calculation using any of the file parameters that would match this value for any image that I checked

I have found the Info panel in elements 13 Organizer to be a very handy tool to change camera default names to descriptive names in the Organizer catalog; it takes far less time to give descriptive names to individual files than using the built-in renaming feature during importing. I just bought elements 15 and so far I have not seen a way to access the Info panel. Is it still available in 15 through 19?

I was unaware of the Find> All missing files. I am aware of the PSE golden rule for older PSE versions such as 13. My question concerned current PSE versions. I heard recently that perhaps one of the newer versions were able to sync with the Explorer data base as CS5 Bridge does. From these replies, It appears that no version of PSE is aware of Explorer actions and there is no way to limit the search for missing files in the Organizer. Thanks to all for the info.

My Elements Organizer 13 is not aware of changes made in Explorer. After changing the filename in Explorer, the thumbnail view in the Organizer still had the prior filename BUT it began searching immediately when I clicked on the thumbnail view and requested to open it in the editor. It found the image quickly under it's NEW NAME and displayed it to the new name in the editor. Images that are DELETED in Explorer are an entirely different matter. In this case the thumbnail is still displayed in the Organizer and PSE will search through every hard drive on the PC trying to find the image. Is there any way to limit the search for missing photos to a specific drive or folder? Do any of the more current PSE versions have full browser capability in the organizer, that is have full awareness of renames, moves and deletes that are made in Windows Explorer? The Organizer must have used the address of the original filename and open the contents it found, even displaying the new name of the image is in the editor window

I just bought a DVD disk version of Photoshop cs6 Extended on eBay in an opened DVD case. The disk is in perfect shape & it has an activation code on the DVD back cover of the dvd case as well as half a page of system requirements , barcodes, manufacturing inflo & Adobe icons as well as at the page of details about CS6 extended. I ran the setup program and it loaded without a hitch. I opened the program and everything appears to be as it should be, but I was not asked during the loading or the opening of the program to enter the activation key. I did not see any warning about a trial copy or anything else. Does this sound normal for a DVD version of this software? I am especially interested in hearing about the experience of other buyers of the disc version of the CS6 software. Thank you.

In Photoshop Elements 13, I tried to merge a landscape background (3000 x 2000) with a sky image (7360 x 4900). The result was a background with absurdly delete large clouds. Without closing Elements, I backtracked in the history panel, resized the cloud layer to the same size as the landscape (width, Length & resolution), repeated the merge from that point, but the results were the same. I closed Elements, resized the large sky to the same sizes as the landscape, saved the file and then proceeded to merge the images again. This time there was no sizing problem. Is there anyway to avoid the size issue without having to do this standalone resizing to begin with? The tool options bar in the PSE 11-14 waste a lot of real estate that could be better used for image editing. Do any of the more current's versions, 15-19, place the Tools option bar at the top of the edit screen or have a more compact layout of options such as is found in Photoshop? I have not seen a tool that needs more than half of the space that is reserved for the tool options.

While editing a photo with layers in PSE – 13, I had a need to export some of the layers into another file so that I could edit them, such as cropping and transposing, without affecting the other layers. Looking around, I learned that I could copy layers to another file in CS6 (File > Script > Export layers to new file). In the PSE Editor I did find an Export command under the File menu but it was grayed out, unavailable for selection. I am not referring to the similar command under the same menu in the Organizer. I would like to know what the Export command in the Editor's File menui is used for. I assume this will tell me how to open the command and see what the sub-commands and options are.

The pattern is easier to see in detailed view (Ctrl+D). I was selecting one image at a time to view the meta data in the side panel while trying to understand the display order. I have not encountered a file display presentation such as this before. This order, date newest-time oldest, would appeal to unsophisticated users who infrequently purge memory cards or camera memory. Thanks for the info.

Using the PE 13 Organizer advanced import dialog, I’m trying to import a large number of images shot over several days at a variety of times. This dialog box displays the thumbnail images from top to bottom in an inconsistent fashion. Regardless of how I adjust the settings under the View menu or Sort By (Name, Oldest, Newest), the advanced import dialog box always displays the thumbnails by date from newest to oldest and then within date, from oldest to newest. Here is an example: May 25 6 PM, May 25 6:30 PM, May 25 8 PM, May 24 2:30 PM, May 22 7 AM, May 22 7:25 AM, May 22 9 AM. In fact, changing the two settings mentioned appear to have no bearing on how the thumbnails are displayed In the Organizer, the import dialog or even the folder listing in the when the folder tabs clicked. These settings do not appear to do anything. What do they control? Is there a way to change the order in which image thumbnails are displayed in the advanced import dialog?

I'm using Elements 13 to import pics from a Nikon D810 (36 mp) dslr on a Windows 7 OS. In Windows Explorer, I can see the metadata that I requested in WE for Jpeg files, but not for the raw files (NEF). I can see the WE metadata for my Nikon D700 (12 mp), but not the newer D810's raw data. See attachment below. Also, when I import the raw files into my Windows 10 laptop, I can see all requested data columns for both raw and Jpeg files. Both computers are running Win Photo Gallery 12 that I use for viewing these files. Has anyone else encountered this?
