Unfortunately, Adobe has once again made an unexpected change that can possibly break some plugins. This is the case for the very useful Keyboard Tamer plugin written by Timothy Armes. What change ? Until recently and since 2016, Lightroom was reading the keyboard shortcuts from this file : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic\Resources\fr\TranslatedStrings_Lr_xx_XX.txt (xx_XX being the standard language identifier i.e. fr_FR for french). Now LR is reading the shortcuts from a file named TranslatedStrings.txt in the same folder. The Keyboard Tamer plugin does its magic by modifying / adding shortcuts in the TranslatedStrings_Lr_xx_XX.txt file. So, the plugin is still working but the created / modified shortcuts are no longer taken into account because they are not stored in the correct file. It's interesting to note that Lightroom is now back to the naming scheme that was active before 2016 (at this time, Keyboard Tamer was already broken once but the author fixed the problem). Well, they made the reversed change in 2025. The problem is that Keyboard Tamer doesn't seem to be still maintained although it was working fine until I installed LR 14.3. If you are using KT, there's a temporary and awkward workaround (but after all, you're not changing you customized shortcuts everyday) : Open the folder containing the shortcut definition : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic\Resources\xx (xx being the language id - fr for french). Make a copy of TranslatedStrings.txt in the same folder and name it TranslatedStrings_Lr_xx_XX.txt if this file doesn't already exist. Skip this step if the file is already there (see above for the meaning of xx_XX - i.e. fr_FR for french). In LR, launch the Keyboard Tamer configurator and make your changes as usual (or don't make any change if you just want to get KT working again). TranslatedStrings_Lr_xx_XX.txt will be modified by KT. Quit LR after validating your changes. Don't directly copy back TranslatedStrings_Lr_xx_XX.txt to TranslatedStrings.txt because it may contain only your changes while TranslatedStrings.txt contains all the standard shortcuts. Instead, use a comparison tool or a text editor, to copy the changes you made in KT from TranslatedStrings_Lr_xx_XX.txt to TranslatedStrings.txt. Beyond Compare is the right tool for the job. But any capable text editor will do. Since the shortcut file is stored in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic\Resources, you'll have to run Beyond Compare or you text editor as an admin. Otherwise you'll not be able to save the fixed shortcut file. Launch Lightroom and check. That's it. This worked for me. I couldn't find any other way to fix the problem. The plugin code is obfuscated so I couldn't adapt the code itself. Only the author can do that but I didn't receive any answer to my emails. Hope this helps.

Samoreen, does this tie into your other discussion about the settings used by the Domain Name Server and other vital Internet settings at https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/slow-cc-updates-a-possible-solution/m-p/13853043#M572417 Not exactly. I have (had) 2 problems with CC Desktop : 1. Downloads being very slow. 2. Network bandwidth being 100% consumed by CC desktop when downloading updates. The DNS server trick helped accelerate the downloads. I'm now downloading from Germany instead of the USA. So, it's somewhat faster. Problem #2 is still there.

No. I'm the only one in my house using Adobe products and I have only one Internet connection. However, as already explained above, the local network is also used by other persons in the house, feeds a TV, a music server and a few other things. And I repeat : everything is working fine until I trigger a download in CC Desktop. From that moment, the whole network bandwidth is monopolized by CC Desktop. It is that simple. So, I'm not looking for a workaround. I want Adobe to fix this problem and to give us a way to limit the bandwidth used by the app when downloading. And no, limiting the sync speed in the Preferences doesn't help. I'm not syncing anything anyway. And please stop saying that this problem occurs rarely just because you don't have it. It is not new, not rare, and reports about this issue exist since a very long time. Period. Just, Adobe don't care. Not a surprising attitude when considering the long list of significant bugs that I have conscientiously reported since years and that will never be fixed. I can live with them but this one is particularly irritating. And reading posts suggesting that the problem is not with Adobe but with the network or the systems of the many people who have already complained about this is even more irritating.

Hi, > Did you try using a different network? I can try to move all my hardware to another location but well, seriously, all Adobe customers in my neighborhood have the same problem. By the way, other users in this forum have already reported that they have exactly the same problem with high-speed connections. No, the problem is with the CC software and/or with the Adobe servers at Amazon (AWS). > it's uncommon that Adobe would take all the bandwidth. I guess you and kglad are kidding me. Yes: you are 🙂 , As an Adone employee, if you regularly read this forum, you know that it's not an isolated and recent problem. Just trigger a search with the "bandwidth" keyword and you'll be up-to-date. This problem has been reported multiple times since years. As a former software engineer, my opinion is that CC Desktop is flawed from the beginning and that nobody wants to diagnose the problem. Please note that we are not talking about file synchronization. We are talking about the download of installation packages. So, all update sessions in CC Desktop are a nightmare and have always been. That's a fact and that's the point that should addressed. Meanwhile, we should be able to directly download the installation packages. This would be a better solution. Many of us don't need the devilish CC Desktop machinery.

Hi, > do you have narrow bandwidth? I have a 10 Mbit/s DSL connection which is enough to simultaneously and smoothly feed a TV, a music device and download installation programs. No problem. When the Adobe installation programs were directly available, I could download PS, Lightroom and the like whithin a reasonable amount of time. CC Desktop has always been a source of problems whatever the version. Now downloading the PS/Lightroom installers takes ages and, as mentioned, while the download is incredibly slow, CC desktop prevents me to use the network for doing something else. To make it short, it takes all the bandwidth to download everything very, very slowly. This is the only program demonstrating this behavior. So, my connection is sufficient to do the job correcly and there's no configuration problem : I have now a brand new powerful PC and reinstalled everything Adobe. Nothing has changed.

Hi, When updates via CC Desktop are in progress (Windows), the whole network bandwidth is occupied by CC Desktop and there's no way to have any other network related activity on the computer (or even on the local network) until the download is finished. This is not a new problem but after all these years and all these complaints, it's amazing to see that nothing has been done about this. Not even an option to limit the bandwidth used by CC Desktop. Are Adobe at home on my computer ?

OK. Answering question #1 to myself. The Remove button in the Plugin Manager is only enabled when you have used the Add button to install the plugin when it is stored in another folder than C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules\the_plugin.lrplugin. When you do this, the path to the added plugin is inserted into the AgSdkPluginLoader_installedPluginPaths section of the Preference file and this is where LR looks to enable the Remove button or to leave it disabled. The plugin is not moved to the default folder. If the plugin is installed in (or from) the default folder, the button is not enabled anyway. If you copy a plugin subfolder directly to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules, the Remove button is never enabled, even if you manually add the relevant information to the AgSdkPluginLoader_installedPluginPaths section. I'm wondering why I should not be allwoed to remove a third-party plugin installed in the default folder ? Anyway, this indirectly gives me an unsatisfactory answer to my second question. Since the only way to remove a third-party plugin installed in the default Modules folder is to merely delete it, this implies that no particular mechanism is triggered allowing the plugin developer to cleanup things during a (non existing) uninstallation process. Not surprising that Adobe constantly recommends to reset the preference file when something is going wrong. If you regularly install, try and uninstall plugins, after a while, the resulting preference file is probably a mess containing a lot of entries pointing to non-existing plugins. Not clean. Not pro. So, the only solution in order to keep the preference file more or less clean when installing and uninstalling plugins is to use John R. Ellis Snapshot Prefs. Thanks John.

Hi, I have 2 questions about plugin management in LR (using the latest version of LR Classic) #1 On my system, the Remove button in the Plugin Manager is always grayed out. It's OK for the plugins installed by default by LR but not for the third-party plugins. Is this related to the way they were installed ? Or is this a bug ? #2 Assuming that this button would eventually work, what does it do ? Does it just remove the plugin folder ? What happens with the data inserted in the preference file by the plugin ? Are they cleaned up or should they be, as I suspect, manually removed in the Preference file ? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Like many others, the CC updates are (were) extremely slow on my system although I have a decent ADSL connection. I gave this some thought and found the following... Adobe are distributing their software through the Akamai CDN (this can be observed with a network monitor while updating). For those who are not aware of this technology and to make things simple, a CDN is a system that is able to make the downloaded package available to a myriad of servers all over the world and to connect you to a server near your location (which is detected from your IP). This works automatically but not always, especially when you are using a DNS server that is not able to provide localization information to the CDN system. In which case, you are systematically downloading from the central server. If you are living far from Illinois, this can slow down operations a lot. A good example is when using the Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). This can also happen for some internet providers. I made some tests and I could observe that indeed, I was always downloading from the central server in the US (I'm based near Paris in France). Given this information, I thought to myself that if I could use the Akamai DNS servers instead, I may have more chances to download from a nearer server. Fortunately I could find the IP addresses of the Akamai servers : - IPV4 88.221.162.120 and 88.221.163.120 - IPV6 2620:119:35::35 and 2620:119:53::53 I changed the network settings on my system to make it use these DNS servers and I could immediately observe that I was now downloading from a server in Frankfurt (Germany). And the update was significantly faster. I wouldn't say lightning fast (I only have a 10 Mbps ADSL connection) but this was more acceptable. I cannot guarantee that this will work for everyone but there's no risk trying. I didn't observe any side effect since I have changed the DNS servers. Hope this helps.

Hi, Coresync.exe is clean. It seems that it is no longer launched upon system startup after having disabled the Sync option in Acrobat. I was not aware that coresync.exe is also used by Acrobat. So, problem solved, apparently. The Adobe ecosystem is really too complex for those who want to control what processes are running on their system. There are too much Adobe executable spread over our disks and consuming system resources without giving us information about why they are running and if it's useful for us. Thanks anyway.

Please note that no error message is displayed. I also had a look at the various log files and the only related information that I could find in them are "access denied" notifications that I had already identified. The same "access denied" errors to the file system are also visible when monitoring PS with Process Monitor. But this doesn't tell me what's happening. Actually, based on my developer's experience, everything happens as if PS (or another sub-process launched by it) was running some parts of its code by impersonating another account not having the necessary permissions (sorry for the programmatic jargon).

Hi, This is an old problem but it could now become a show stopper if not solved. When run as an administrator PS runs without a hitch on my system. But I shouldn't have to do that for obvious reasons. If I run it normally (not as an admin, even under an admin account), it misbehaves and strange things are happening : #1 When specifying scratch disks, only C: is listed. All other disks/partitions are ignored (not listed). No problem when running as an admin. Of course, these disks/paritions are recognized by any other app running at the same time under Windows. All these disks and partitions have a lot of free space available. I'm very curious about how PS decides what disk can be listed as a possible scratch disk. Moreover, PS is also unable to create and write to the system's and user's TEMP folders (although full rights have been given to all users - other apps can access these folders without any problem). This problem could explain issue #2. #2 It seems unable to read or write its preference file. Any preference changed in the preferences dialog is not retained when exiting. No problem when running as an admin. Needless to mention that all necessary permissions have been checked. #3 It is unable to write any edited image file to any other disk than C:. No problem when running as an admin. Any other app can read from and write to these disks. #4 When exiting PS, the photoshop.exe remains active forever after the main window has been closed. It is waiting something from the network, permanently sending TCP/IP requests. When run as an administrator, photoshop.exe terminates within a few seconds after the main PS window has been closed. I went through all the recommendations made on this page : https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/basic-troubleshooting.html . Really. To no avail. However, it's worth noting that if I launch PS while pressing the famous Ctrl+Alt+Shift key combo and answer NO to the question about deleting the preference file, everything is working fine. But if I relaunch PS normally, the problems are back. I have also created a new standard account, a new admin account and tried to run PS under the system admin account. No difference. Additionally, I also checked the Windows Defender settings, just in case. Since there's no problem when running PS as administrator, it's obvioulsy a permission problem. No other application on my system needs to be run as an administrator. I have checked all the permissions that have been listed in various articles coming from Adobe. So, obviously again, these documents are not accurate enough. Something is missing in the list of system objects to which full access must be given. I should also mention that I have a similar problem with Bridge and Lightroom, but let's focus on PS for now. Please refrain from telling me to re-install everything Adobe (already done) or to point to a possible system misconfiguration. My system is well maintained and works fine with the many applications installed on it and as many of us already know, I'm not alone with these kind of problems lasting since years. Thanks in advance for any idea.

More details about this persistent issue... I had a folder with about 3000 images. The problem appeared after I added the last few hundreds. I split the folder into multiple subfolders, each one containing no more than 600-700 images (same images, no change). The problem disappeared. 1. The problem is not tied to any technical issue with one of these images but rather to the number of images being processed (that is, compared). 2. For each synchronization, I only added about 20-30 images to the initial folder. All the images already present had been already processed and their preview was present. So, it shouldn't be a memory problem since only a few image previews have to be generated. And I have a lot of memory available on my system. Hmm! Looks like a stack overflow problem. I guess that LR has to compare the new and already present images in order to detect duplicates and files of different types having the same names. I don't know how the comparison is being made but since LR crashes when doing this, I suspect a bug in the image list management. Well, now back to my old obsession about LUA (the infamous language being used to develop the LR UI). I doubt that LUA is very appropriate for managing big lists the classical way by dynamically allocating memory for each item. I suspect that pre-dimensioned arrays are used to do this. And under certain circumstances, these arrays are probably too small and the code is not checking this. Otherwise I don't see why the synchronization process fails only when the number of images exceeds a certain limit (which appears to vary a lot depending on the user's system). Just a guess.

In fact, you're the only person I've seen who has repeated problems with it. Seriously ? Are you kidding me ? The first reports about the "run as administrator" issue were about PS CS5, if I remember well. Just google a little and you'll see that many people can't run PS (and less frequently LR or Bridge) unless launched as an administrator. This is not my problem, this is a well-known issue laaasting since years. You say you only have problems with Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge. Where do you store your photos? Are they on your computer's primary hard drive? Can you run the apps in Safe Mode? The location of my photos has nothing to do with this problem. They are stored on a data dedicated drive to which any authenticated user and any app have read/write access, as already mentioned. The problem is being able to run the app. Once it is running (as an admin) I can access and write images everywhere I want. Trying to run in Safe Mode doesn't help. If you are thinking that some plugin is involved, you're on the wrong track. Because I already tried to uninstall any plugin in PS and because no plugin could be causing this issue in PS, LR and Bridge.

Nancy, > If your computer's operating system can't freely read/write & edit files on your system, the apps can't work properly. Thank you, but please :--))) ! Be sure, that I wouldn't have dared to post the initial message of this thread if I had not checked before all the points that you have listed. As I mentioned above, I'm a former system engineer, sofware engineer and Microsoft MVP. So, I'm supposed to understand all this stuff correctly. All the permissions have been checked, I have tried creating another profile, I have checked the system, the disk drives and the hardware in general by the mean of tools you don't even think of. Believe me, I have tried everything I could think of. My system is clean, properly and meticulously maintained and updates and I don't have any problem running all the many apps that are installed on it. And there are many users having the same problem and who also spent a lot of time doing the same verifications. The only thing that I couldn't check is the source code of PS, LR and Bridge. Of course, there's allegedly a "permission problem" since everything works fine when the apps are launched as an admin. But since the permissions are obviously OK, I think that PS, LR and Bridge have a problem (with NTFS ?) when evaluating these permissions. This leads me to think that these apps have a common issue due to a code module that they are all sharing. Adobe CC is installing so many pieces of code on a system. You can't tell what code calls or loads what module. This makes spotting bugs very hard, even for those who are supposed to maintain this code. Also, all the drives on my system can be accessed by any app in read/write mode even without needing to be run as an admin. Only PS can't recognize (list) any other drive as c: when selecting the scratch disks (I check this just before it crashes by using the Alt+Ctrl combo when not launching it as an admin; only c: is listed). What could explain that these drives are recognized and listed when PS runs as an admin and not when running normally ? This doesn't make sense. This is not a problem related to the available disk space : all these NTFS drives have a lot of free space and give read/write permissions to any authenticated user. The usual problem with this kind of bug is that they are not appearing on every system. So, it's tempting to conclude that the problem is on the user's side. You can be sure that it is not the case.

Hi Nancy, This is an individual plan. But I guess that the code of these apps when subscribing to an Enterprise plan is the same ? PS, LR and Bridge are running fine when launched as an admin. That's not the problem. The problem is that I do have to run them as admin. Otherwise they crash (LR) or don't even start (PS). By the way, this shouldn't even happen. When a program is started, the code should check whether all the conditions required for it to run safely are met. If not, it should emit informative error messages and terminates. Merely crashing or freezing is the sign of bad programming practice. I shouldn't have to run CC apps as an admin when it's not necessary, especially when using a standard account. It's a security issue. Officially, PS, LR and Bridge don't require to be run as an admin and they shouldn't anyway. Only their installation requires this. So, there's something going wrong that must be fixed. If a plugin or a script misbehaves, the consequences can be much more severe if the app is running as an admin. I don't have any other app that requires to be run as an admin. The support team at Adobe seems to consider that running the CC apps as an admin is a solution. It's not. This is an unsafe temporary workaround. It's time that this issue be considered as a bug. If Adobe could only give us accurate and complete information about what permissions are actually necessary and if they could explain how they enumerate the disk drives available on the system, I could investigate the problem more deeply. I'm a former software engineer and a former Microsoft Development MVP. So, I can understand technical explanations about this. I have tried to use debugging tools like SysInternals' Process Monitor in order to track what's happening when these apps starts but it's really not easy. Too much data to sort out. Having the information requested above could help a lot. Given the number of users having these problems, this cannot be a file corruption or hardware problem. This is a bug that may or may not appear depending on the system configuration.

Hi LinSims, Ahem, you can't imagine the number of wishforms I have filled up during the last 15 years since I have started using Adobe products. Without any effect. I can list bugs that are more than 10 years old and still waiting to be fixed. There's also https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/how-to-user-voice.html which is as good as dead. I tried this already. Also, we have had a feedback forum (Photoshop Family) where Adobe reps used to participate to the discussions (sometimes). It was closed in 2020, if I remember well. Now, I have been told that Adobe Support Community is the place where I'm supposed to report bugs. That's what I did. Otherwise, please tell me where are Adobe reps supposed to listen to customer problems and follow discussions about issues reported by multiple users ? By posting here, I'm just hoping that someone at Adobe, curious about what users think about their products, involved in the CC development and still having a minimum of self-esteem and professional conscience would read this, do some research, admit that there's a rather severe issue to solve and report it to whoever is in charge. Or am I supposed to call the support, report this issue once again and just wait hours to get one the ready-made answers usually returned when this issue is reported (reset your preferences, re-install CC or Windows or PS or Lightroom or whatever, create a new user and try, etc.) ? Am I paying a subscription to get this kind of service ?

Hi, Many of us are unable to run CC Apps (especially Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge) unless launched as administrator. This problem is lasting since years but nobody seems to care about it. The usual anwers (checking permissions, re-installing apps, re-installing Windows, creating a new user account, talking about corrupted files or system - that many corrupted data or systems, really ? - etc.) don't help. They are just a loss of time. The error messages emitted by the app about denied access to a folder or a file are stupid enough to not specify which file or which folder. A lot of users have spent hours following the above mentioned advice without any result. Trying to examine the many log files spread by Adobe CC on our disks is just a nightmare. There's another related problem that also needs to be fixed : Photoshop will not list as possible scratch disk any other drive than C: ... unless run as admin. I have noticed that similar problems exist on the Mac. Forcing us to run apps as an admin is a nonsense. So, after all these years, someone at Adobe should take over these problems and work on it seriously : - We need a tool that would automatically check all the required permissions needed to run CC apps. I really mean ALL because the list of permissions made available by Adobe on various web pages are obviouslyt not enough (and never updated anyway). - We need more informative error messages. A message saying "You don't have enough rights to access this file" without giving the file's name and path is merely some kind of a provocation. Not professional at all. - We need that Adobe stop telling us that the problem is on our side. These problems are specific to the CC Apps. There's obviously a bug that doesn't take into account some (legitimate) configurations. I suspect UAC problems on Windows but I'm not sure. There's probably another problem when the TEMP and TMP environment variables folders point to another drive than C: on Windows. When Photoshop fails to recognize any other disk drive than C: as a possible scratch disk when there's no similar problem with any other non Adobe app and when all these drives are recognized by the system, it becomes obvious that this is a PS bug. Fix it ! Or explain us how PS enumerates the disk drives that are candidate for being a scratch disk. Let's be serious : PS doesn't see the drives on my system unless run as admin ? Come on ! It's just a joke. Adobe should now consider that they are no longer alone on the imaging software market, especially regarding photography. We now have excellent RAW processors (DxO Photolab) and imaging software that is enough powerful for photography (Affinity Photo). Adobe software still have some advantages but I'm really tired spending so much time fixing problems with Adobe Apps and with CC Desktop. The CC Desktop machinery is slow, messy, is spreading a lot of files everywhere on our disks, running a lot of programs and services on which we don't have any control and sending data over the internet even when all sync operations are disabled. Enough is enough. All this stuff should become more simple, cleaner and more user controllable. So, Adobe, if you don't want to fix these problems, you should at least give us accurate information about the permissions required by your apps and the way you discover drive disks on our system. At least, we could try to adapt our system configurations if needed. Thank you in advance for handling these problems more seriously. Patrick
