So if I turn off all warning and it does NOT have a profile embedded, it will say "untagged" correct? And if so you are advising I do NOT convert it to any profile at all prior to printing? For what its worth I don't use Photoshop to print only for image adjustments.

The same thing happened with a few images last week from a different customer. Those were not scans but sRGB files created in Photoshop, but I don't think they embedded the profile when exporting. In this case, the unsaturated image was accurate as told by the customer. Same thing with the images last week the saturation was somehow jacked to 1,000. But Apple Preview isnt doing this when I open it there, so those have been my references in both cases. When I converted this untagged horse image to sRGB it looked better, and more how the customer wanted. I guess I'm also confused because I was under the impression that files converted "up" would look the same. So if I got an image from LR where I store my own photos, and converted it from Pro Photo in LR to Adobe RGB in PS, then BACK to Pro Photo in PS (just for testing purposes) the photo would remain the same. That basically the gamut could not be expanded as the data was lost when I converted it down to Adobe. I feel like for now my practice should be converting to sRGB when im sent an untagged image as thats most likely what my customers are used to. People who are more advanced and work with thier own photos or art generally send me files with embedded profiles and this isnt an issue.

So I tried turning off the auto convert profile. I opened the file and was still prompted with a message saying its embedded profile is different than my working space. I chose to keep it with its embedded profile. The prompt said that was sRGB. However when the file opened, its marked as "untagged RGB" in the lower left. The image still looks WAY off. Im enclosing a screenshot of the image in PS next to the same image in Apple Preview. The Apple Preview version (right) is how its supposed to look. This happened with all three files from this customer, all scans from different scanners.

I have it set to prompt me and no matter what selection I choose to use the embedded profile, to convert, whatever I do it's still screws the colors up.

I print for a living. Photos and fine art. The majority of customers provide files in sRGB unfortunately. Adobe RGB and ProPhoto RGB are my working spaces and until recently nothing changes when I convert the files upon import. But the last couple updates everything changes. When you convert an sRGB image to Adobe RGB it should look the same. Converting it is essentially pointless but I like keeping everything standard. But now converting makes some random files look really off. The same files look totally fine in LR Classic. And in Apple Preview. And Qimage One prints them fine. But opening them in PS to crop or manipulate them tweaks them out even if I dont actually convert. Any one else having these problems? Running Mac Sonoma 14.2.1 and the lates PS.

For months now I thought this was an apple bug, but their techs and I tried to recreate the problem in a native Apple app and could not get it to happen. The issue is within the print drivers. Presets no longer work, and the "colorsync" radio button is often grayed out with it stuck on the Printers Color Controls (not ideal). It has made my print shops workflow time almost triple. At this point I will have to look for a new software unless the problem is fixed promplty. It happens in Lightroom Classic as well.

Have you had this issue in any other apps beside Adobe apps? The issue doesnt happen in Apples preview app which is why im assuming they havent fixed it.

No. There is no AirPrint driver at play here. It is all within the canon driver.

I own a print shop and print with LR and PS all day long to Canon large format printers. Since Sonoma not only are my presets pretty much worthless but I have limited options in the drivers. If using LR to print, and I select the paper profile in LR when I click Printer.... color matching is grayed out. Seems half the time its set to Canon Color Matching and half the time to Colorsync. If its set to Canon Color matching i have to go back to LR and change it to "managed by printer" in order to select the proper profile within the driver. Anyone know whats going on here?

Did you every find a proper solution for this? I am having the same problem in Sonoma. I own a print shop so its a huge pain in my butt. I print all day every day with multiple machines and have to fight this constantly. Presets are not working very well at all.

Yes and no. I tried it with a few files and a few doubled and a few did not. I decided it wasnt reliable and dont want to redownload everything, so I am no longer using local storage. Instead I have everything syncing to Lightroom Classic and that creates a hard backup which in turn clones to another drive for security.

This is crazy. Is it still like this? I liked having a local copy so I dont have to download when editing, but I need to be able to download an original on my laptop when im away from the external (traveling I don't want to lug around a giant raid drive). I can do it on my ipad for christs sake why can we not do it on a laptop?

Noted thanks. I haven't spent much time on here lately. I do have sore copy of originals checked. That's the whole issue. I keep all my originals stored locally but I already have them downloaded. In Classic you can simply reconnect your local copies to the catalog files. I guess I was hoping desktop would see the downloaded file on my external drive and not own load another copy. Does this make sense?

Thanks. I know the technical name for Lightroom Cloud is now Lightroom Desktop (according to the guy who runs the LR division at Adobe). But a lot of people are very confused so they tend to use CC and Classic as the names so people know what to use. I don't have any photos in the original location. My fear is that it will re download the files and I'll end up with doubles of everything.

Just to add, the local files will not actually move. They will stay in place on the same external drive.

I am doing my main editing on a different computer. I previously stored my local copies on an external drive. I will be using the same drive. I opened LR on the new computer, went into preferences and set the location of the external drive connected to the new computer. When I reopend Lightroom CC I was prompted with "moving files from Macintosh HD to XXXX", with XXXX being the new location. I just wanted to make sure this is the right process before I let Lightroom "move" any files.

I appreciate the input but I have switched my workflow. I know import everything to CC, store it all in the cloud, as well as a local copy, and have it also sync to Classic where an additional backup is created on a second external drive.

Ive seen some posts about this several years old, so the solutions don't apply. My Lightroom CC says syncing one photo. Its been this way for days. When I click "view" on the cloud icon there is nothing there. I did a diagnostics log and got it means little to me, though when I scrolled to "sync" I found the enclosed error. I put a copy of this file on my desktop, and deleted it from Lightroom and all other locations. I then reimported it and it did nothing. Ideas?

Thank you for confirming. No need to apologize it's a pretty confusing process. I'm just glad it will work as I want! I agree about your original description. My worry here was the bandwidth of redownloading my whole library yet again (xfinity only allows 1tb per month) so I simply used the metadata filter to move my photos to a by date structure by month, instead of by individual day which saved a lot of time. When I have some time and bandwidth I will likely do a new catalog with your idea. Thanks again for all of your input.

This is correct and that's how it works. I am fine with several copies being "on my computer" because I'm actually putting those copies on several external drives and they will be acting as backups. But at the same time they will be allowing me full res access in both apps:)

Ive written pages down below and cant delete them. I went and reread all of your comments. It sounds like we are on the same page. I have plenty of cloud storage so im not concerned about that. The whole confusing issue is whether classic will redownload, which it wont if the photo has already been synced. I actually really like your idea of starting a new catalog and turning on sync, and letting them all download to my new backup location but I don't know how to specifly which catalog utilizes the sync feature. I was not wrong in saying that Classic will not download a new copy when sync is on, if the photo has previously been synced.

Apparantly I cant edit so Im adding this. I think we are just misunderstanding what is considered "extra" images. I know when I reimport those photos to CC they will save a new local copy. Thats part of the goal. My point is that Classic does not then redownload yet another copy. I am aware that my tranfer of files to CC means I am moving the location of my local storage to the one I set in the preferences.

I'd like to first say I know you are trying to help me and I appreciate that. I am not saying you are wrong, I would just like to simply explain all these tests I have been doing based on what other users have guided me to do. I have 60k image in Lightroom classic, all of which were imported into classic and all of which are synced in collections, and with smart previews available in CC. Yesterday I reimported 1,000 image into CC. I opened classic, and it DID NOT re download new copies. Sync is turned on. It says up to date. I have checked every local location and done searches of all connected drives. It did not happen. I was told to do this by another user, and a screenshot has been posted below in my response to Jim. So reimported already synced image does not add another copy. My next test was this which I did a matter of minutes ago. I imported an image that was not in either catalog to CC. CC uploaded it and stored it in the local folder where I specified in the preferences. I opened classic and yes the full res copy downloaded there as well. In Classics preferences I had turned OFF "specify location for synced images" so it downloaded the original to my default drive. I then imported another image that was in neither library into CC. But this time I checked the box to specifly location for synced images as well as the one to be sorted by date, within the Classic preferences. This image also synced, downloaded the original, but this time it went to my specified folder and DID NOT download another to the default folder. This was as I expected it to do. I know this discussion has gotten off topic. I orignally asked about getting all of my already imported files into this file structure, and I know I will need to do that manually. But the conversation morphed into this alternative workflow I would like to use, and it sure seems like it works, judging by several tests I have done. Nothing I have done has given me extra copies locally. I will again state my goal. I will be re importing all previously imported files to CC. Im not sure why you think that will add extra copies, it simply doesn't. If it has already been synced, CC is able to identify that the smart preview is already there and the number of "synced images" doesnt actually change when I import these images. That number has stayed the same from day one. All it does is add a copy to the cloud, and to the local folder designated in the prefs. Maybe this is a new feature, I don't know. But I've re imported 300gb of images this week, the synced images number has not changed, nor has my hard drive space, and sync is turned on in Classic I assure you. I just watched images the new images sync with my own two eyes. So as far as my new import workflow-My goal was to have full res access in LR Classic, LR CC, and LR Mobile. I planned on having the cloud copy, a local copy, and an additional backup copy as I always have. So I import my photos to CC. This gives me my cloud copy and my local copy in the folder specified in CC's preferences. Now I set the synced folder location in Classic to be on the additional backup drive. So yes Classic will dowload another full res copy to this drive. Now I have access to the full res files there as well. Maybe I explained this wrong in the above posts. But this is my goal, seems to work just as planned, and I'm not really sure why anyone thinks it won't. Again I appreciate your imput and trying to help. I think this could be a really great workflow for people who want to have full res access in both apps so I am making sure it does what I need before promoting it. I hope this all makes sense.
