Select both circle shapes (with no dashed lines applied). Go to Pathfinder/Outline. This breaks the lines up into 6 arcs including where they intersect. Using the direct selection arrow tool click on the arc section to apply a red dashed stroke. Then, use the direct selection arrow tool to select the remaining arcs to apply a solid black or red stroke.

These are called stratigraphic models created by GPM (geological process modeling) software, such as Vulcan GeologyCore (Maptek), GOCAD Mining Suite, Leapfrog Geo (Seequent), Micromine, and GEO5.

I would use the shape builder tool. Here is how it works. I use it all of the time in these scenarios. https://www.lauracoylecreative.com/illustrator-tips/shape-builder-tool-workflow or a more basic approach to learning the tool is below; https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/creating-shapes-shape-builder-tool.html

Did you say you dropped in screen grabs? If so, then that is the culprit. Screen grabs are only 72dpi, so they are not high resolution to begin with.

I am curious if anyone knows of a good solution or plugin for Illustrator that will trap CT images to vector backgrounds? We currently use Esko's Power Trapper, but the service is very expensive. Looking for alternatives, but I can't find any. Illustrator has a vector trap under Pathfinder menu, but that doesn't trap images.

Select your arrowhead stroke, then go to the Object menu/Envelope Distort/Make with Warp. Then select the Flag warp. If you need to edit your arrowhead or stroke width, then you can go back into the Envelope Distort menu and select, Edit Contents.

Monika, I selected each line one by one going in order from top to bottom, is this what you mean by stacking order? If so, the result still looks jumbled.

I am trying to thread text on multiple curved lines for an ingredient listing for packaging. Due to the package structure, 23 lines of text have to individually be applied using type on path. I wanted to thread all of these lines so that I can seamlessly type ingredient listings for other flavors. However, when I select the curved lines that already have text applied to them and thread them, the thread jumps around instead of going in order. I tried individually selecting each out port to link to the next text line, but it isn't working. Is this a bug? Before applying Threaded text After, the text flow is jumbled.

On M1 Mac Mini apple silicone chip (Big Sur), Adobe Illy version 25.45. I am getting an error when trying to export an Esko PDF from Illustrator "Wrong number of image bytes (too few)", then upon clicking "OK" within the error box, Illy crashes. I am not able to update to a later Illy version because our Esko plugins are not supported in a newer version. Almost 13 people in my department are experiencing the same error, too.

I'm trying to follow a tutorial from linkedin learning for drawing a circle in After Effects. I am on M1 mac running the 2022 intel version for this software. How in the world do a draw a cirle? In the tutorial they show a button in the composition window after using the ellipse tool to select "Toggle Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction" to change the ellipse to a perfect circle. Help? I don't see that icon and can't find it in any menus offhand.

I think the way I'd approach this is to add a 4th and 5th line. Place one on the left most edge of the circle, and the other the right most edge of the circle. Now select all 5 lines and perform a distribute spacing. Then delete the left most and right most lines.

Another way is to create a gradient stroke (copy the yellow circle and then cut where you'd like the start and end point of the gradient to be. Apply a gradient storke, then within the gradient dialog, be sure to select the far right stroke icon to Apply Gradient Across stroke. Adjust the size of your stroke and play around with the gradient sliders to get the effect you need.

So, the same exact font in an older version of Illustrator will outline ok? Usually if the fonts disappear when trying to outline it is an issue with how the font was created by the font designer. Try using another font, does the issue still happen?

I hope that the issue can get resolved, but I also want to know why you'd want 325% black ink coverage? Most printers have a 280% ink coverage threshold for rich blacks. The inks will take longer to dry or have a chance of rub off if they are to heavy.

I would suggest splitting the font name into its own text box so that as you copy each individual text box it retains the font name specs. If you don't want to have it within its own text box, then create a character style that you can apply to the font name.

Not sure if this is what you want to use. But, did you know that you can create multiple blank artboards, and then create your layout on one of the artboards, then select all of the art on just that one arboard, copy it then go to Edit menu and select "Paste on all artboards"? This will paste your objects in the same position on all of the other artboards.

I wonder if this is connected to my issue which was resolved. I wasn't able to enter exact measurements to draw rectangles or objects. So, I did what Monika Gausse suggested and under Preferences, General, deselected "Use Preview Bounds".

I appreciate all of your responses, dear adobe users. Monika, what fixed my issue was deselecting "Use Preview Bounds" under my Preferences (I already had "Scale strokes & effects deselected"). Immediately after deselecting to use preview bounds then I can type in specific measurements into the Transform panel and they are finally accurate! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, MONIKA!

This is driving me a little nuts and I don't know why this issue is happening for me in 24.0.1 version. If I change a square shape dimension by using the transform panel and plugging in 5in. x 3 in., upon hitting the enter key to commit the value, it changes it to 4.9953in x 2.993 in. Why is it not keeping the 5 x 3 values that I keyed in? I have to type it in at least 3 times in a row before it sticks.
I checked preferences and my General units are set to inches.

I also tried Pantone 286 and it works just fine. Is Illustrator somehow looking at a minimum density variation between an overprint and Pantone color? If I bump the black to 50%, then it will overprint Pantone 295 just fine. But anything below 50% appears lighter.

This is super crazy. I run into the same issue testing with Pantone 295, but if I use a different Pantone color, say PMS 2130 or PMS 130, then it shows the overprint properly on the jpeg or tiff that is exported out.
