I have a PS solution that will give you a ranked percentage of colours within an image which runs in 5.3 seconds. It does reduce the stored dimensions of the image to 125px on the long-side though so there will be some slight inaccuracy regarding the true pixel count of the original image which is why it expresses the counts as percentages. If you create a master spreadsheet of all Product Codes and Product Types and save that as a CSV file you can write a Photoshop script that reads the name of the active layer, look up that value in the CSV file and return the Product Type in PS

Photoshop and Excel won't communicate with each other regarding alerts and PS won't copy/paste into Excel. Maybe if you could explain your objective a bit more we could find a workaround.

The exportTo() only saves in JPG format according to documentation. You can change the file name on line 4 from ".jpg" to ".png" and that seems to change the filetype but it's probably still under JPG compression. This is for RGB and my CSV file is setup as followed: Aloe 309,167,217,172 Alpine 468,75,175,218 Aluminum 052,178,178,187 Amazon 313,119,149,85 Ambrosia 337,143,184,164 The number after the name is the colour code and the three numbers at the end are RGB values.
