Your system info shows that you have two GPU in use. I expect that one is on the mother board and part of the CPU. Go into the machine Bios and Windows setting to disable that one. Then be sure the 5070 is enable in Windows and Lightroom Classic.   ... View more

I am on LrC V15.0 Lightroom Classic should automatically read any xmp files during import. Isn't that happening? I just tested this with a small group of images I took of the monitors on my desk, After the Photo Mechanic ingest, I cropped a few in Photo Mechanic. I verified that Photo Mechanic created .XMP files for those cropped images.   Then I imported them all to Lightroom Classic. In the first import screen, the cropped versions do not show up. Once the previews are created, Lightroom Classic had automatically read the .XMP info, showing the cropped images the way they were cropped in Photo Mechanic.    I also made a quick test by Opening PM into a previously LrC imported folder. I cropped one of the images in PM, verified that a new .XMP file had been created in the folder. Next, in LrC, I selected the image I knew had been modified in PM, and in the LrC Metadata menu, selected "Read Metadata from File". Once LrC read the Metadata .XMP, the image was updated to show the crop that happend outside of LrC in PM. How is your experience different? 1. In the Preferences -> Preview screen, Global settings, choose Camera Settings. Unless you have different cameras that require different pofiles, leave the Camera section blank. 2. Any preset you created will be listed at top of the Presets panel under User Presets. On any of those, you can right click to "Update with Current Settings". Choose that after you have zeroed every slider in the Basic panel. 3. I think a preset to use the Adobe Color profile may override the Preferences -> Perfomance: Global setting. You should delete that preset. 4. After doing #3 above, you will not have to create a preset with Camera Standard because the Preferences -> Performance: Global setting of Camera Settings will make the Camera Standard profile the default until you change it in the Basic Panel.   ... It doesn't matter to Lightroom Classic.  Lossless Compression results in the very highest quality and largest file size. High Efficiency * is pretty much indistiguishable from Lossless Compression but result in file sizes about half the size (in Megabytes). This is my choice. It sounds like you have a preset (with the sliders positions set) being applied on Import. Make sure the sliders are all zeroed in the Lens Correction preset you mentioned. A profile will not cause the sliders to move. A lot of us are having great results with the "Camera Standard Profile" That should pickup the image settings you have set in the camera. You should only need three exposures for excellent HDR in Lightroom Classic. One on the average exposure, One dark enough so you have details in the outside highlights and one light enough so you have detail in the darkest interior areas. Generally this can work with a plus two stop and minus two stop brackets. In extreme situations, plus 3 and minus 3 stops will work. Do this with the shutter speed. Keep the aperture constant so the depth of field does not change.   You do not need a camera with an excellent dynamic range for this to work. That's the whole purpose of the HDR approach to images with detail in the light and dark areas.    ... View more

There has been no change to the import process in Lightroom Classic for as far back as I can remember. I started with V 2.0. It's working promply and properly for me. It is important to be sure all the Import options have been selected and set. Perhaps that is where your issue is. I just imported 800+ images from my recent trip to South Korea. LrC V15. That could possibly be caused by a defective catalog. I suggest trying to upgrade the old V 14.x catalog again. You should be able to make that happen by double clicking on the latest V14.x catalog.   ... View more

Are you sure it actually updated the Lr V14 catalog? I sounds like it made a new catalog instead.  Try double clicking on the LrC V14 catalog. It's possible the V 15 catalog is corrupt. Try upgrading the V14 catalog again. I think you can do that by trying to open the latest V14.x catalog in V15.    ... View more

As for your question about getting a desktop computer, I built a new Win11 computer last spring. See the specs in my signature. That machine runs lightroom classic very well. I have no complaints about any of the modules performance. My catalog is about 200,000 images. I also use MacBook pro for travel. Unless you have previous Mac experience, I don't recommend switching operating systems.       ... View more

When Lightroom Classic won't open, two things come to mind. Look in the Lightroom Classic folder for a file ending in .lock. If you find one, delete that and ONLY file. That file remains when Lightroom Classic is shut down improperly. The other possiblity is that your catalog is corrupt. Try your most recent backup.   ... View more
