You can set Adobe Bridge (Preferences > Filetype Associations) to open the specific version you wish to use. Thereafter, a double-click in Bridge opens in the version you told it, while the Finder/Explorer window double-click would open in the current version.

Nobody in this user-to-user forum is kidding you, Adrian. You should consider refining your workflow. Nonetheless, if you adjust Preferences in both AI and INDD to favor AICB and not PDF, you should be able to get it functioning. Bear in mind that AICB stalls out at artwork with a max of 500 anchor points, so keep it simple if you opt to do that way.

Hi Kim, Did you know that you can open a PDF in Acrobat Pro and exporting each page as a separate PDF? Also, in the InDesign > Export to PDF dialog box, did you know you can export to individual pages when you choose Create Separate PDF Files ?

Do you also have a "Keep with Previous" or "Keep with Next" or something like keep all lines together in paragraph? Also, your use of soft returns should be rare.

And the font typeface might be Times New Roman in the current patch of windows 11. Others report this font is missing after a KB5068861 patch around November 11, 2025. Uninstalling Microsoft Security Update KB5068861 reportedly (allegedly) restored the use of that system font.

Do other apps launch and run ok? If so, it might be the one app is corrupted. You might try opening a windows command prompt. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow to check for and repair corrupted system files. Or you might do an InDesign Reset Defcon 4 where you uninstall it, removing all preferences, run the CC App Cleaner tool, and reboot, and re-install. Read about this in this compendium of troubleshooting. Also, generally good chicken-soup is to delete everything in the 2 "Temp" folders that windows relies on for running things.

Hey Bill, What typeface is this related to? Pink hinting means a font is no longer available/installed on your computer. What version of windows OS are you running? Did you open a really old file?

As of today, Nov 20, my win11 machine shows that windows patch installed on the 11th of November. Running Windows Update shows nothing newer yet as of today.

Hi Gosia, Interestingly, if you take a close look at the Times New Roman in Windows 11 (c:\windows\fonts) it at first identifies it as a TrueType font, but if you drill in closer by double-clicking the regular weight version, it tells you that it is an OpenType font. Microsoft does this way. It leaves the filename ending .TTF; yet it is an OpenType font. Are you certain that a conflicting Character Style isn't also stuck on?
