P: Edit/Sync Photo changes the Capture Time.

I use Lightroom for culling through wedding photos, and as of yesterday's update, any time I increase or decrease the rating of an image (or apply any other kind of edit) it will add 4 hours to the capture time, therefore sending that photo to a random place later in the collection, only for me to find it again as I'm moving through. In fact, it just happened twice, as I edited a photo that had already been changed, and it added 4 more. What in the world??? This could prove to be exceptionally annoying.

Photos are syncing.

@dewaynec: "but it used to work just fine right up until this issue popped up."

The bug described in this thread, with large shifts in capture time, was first observed, by many people, in LR 14.1.  It was fixed in LR 14.1.1.

The previous bugs I mentioned with truncated fractional seconds were observed earlier. The one about sync with LR Cloud truncating fractional seconds was observed in LR 13.5.

@johnrellis but it used to work just fine right up until this issue popped up. So I think it used to work fine, they broke it completely, and then they only fixed it partially.

@dewaynec: "Particularly annoying for shots in burst mode. The time doesn't shift much, just enough to knock things out of order. My guess is it's rounding off fractional seconds."

I think you're seeing different symptoms (with a different underlying cause) than most of the others in this thread. They were seeing large shifts in capture time, probably caused by incorrect handling of time zones. This was fixed in LR 14.1.1.

LR has a number of old outstanding bugs handling fractional seconds in capture time:

2014: Edit Capture Time doesn't preserve fractional seconds:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-edit-capture-time-doesn-t-preserve-fractional-seconds/idi-p/12251842

2024: Revert Capture Time doesn't preserve fractional seconds:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-revert-capture-time-to-original-truncates-fractional-seconds/idi-p/15044931

2024: Sync *to* LR Cloud doesn't preserve fractional seconds:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-quot-save-metadata-to-file-quot-overwrites-exif-tag-subsectimeoriginal/idi-p/14821262

Fractional seconds were standardized in EXIF 2.3 (2010), at the time of LR 3, but the LR ecosystem just can't seem to get it right.

As you probably know, the imperfect workaround for mangled fractional seconds for burst sequences is to sort photos by file name rather than capture time.

I'm still seeing it all the time too. Particularly annoying for shots in burst mode. The time doesn't shift much, just enough to knock things out of order. My guess is it's rounding off fractional seconds.

I'm on latest Lightroom Classic at this bug is still present. It does seem to only happen in collections synced to the cloud. The altered, incorrect capture time gets baked into subsequent JPGs and the bug does not appear with every file. So a client viewing an album by capture time will not see the correct order (iOS albums use capture time sorting by default)

Have you updated LrC to 14.1.1?

I am also experiencing this issue. Seems to be time zone related. Lightroom seemingly randomly adds 6 hours to the Date Time Original of my images. Re-importing the metadata from disk fixes it temporarily, but then they get changed again. As I'm working on a collection, it increasingly gets out of order, it's very annoying, especially since the first time I tried to fix the issue by reloading metadata, Lightroom also wiped out my stars, flags, categories, tags, and edits so I had to start over from scratch.

Hallo zusammen,

@mcnallyj: "After updating to Lightroom Classic 14.1 all shots from my iPhone which go through the cloud are losing their original capture dates."

Upgrade to 14.1.1, which has a fix for this bug.
