P: "Adobe Community Help" keeps popping open (Windows)

Adobe Community Help keeps popping open when working within Adobe Photoshop CS5. I'm not sure if I'm doing some sort of shortcut that causes it to open, but sometimes (maybe once instance, during a 40hr week) Adobe Community Help will open in a Window while I am doing stuff in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

I'm not sure what causes it, but I'll close the Community Help window, and then continue working in Photoshop, and it will open again. Only way to keep it from opening back up again is to close and restart Photoshop. This has happened to me on my home PC as well, and in previous versions of Photoshop, if I remember correctly. I am using Windows 7 now, but I think I've had this happen on XP too.

Is it because there are updates available? Is it because I'm doing some sort of weird shortcut that I don't know about?

An example: I was transforming an object (using the mouse, clicking, using shift button while moving the cursor, using the space bar while panning, etc.) It just opened again. Guess it's time to restart Photoshop...

Help just crashed me, again. Lost progress on some changes I made to a complex site design.

But hey, at least I was presented with the help docs, so I could get the help I apparently need.

This is happening right now on my machine. I have the Contract Selection dialog open and I was trying to click OK when it started spawning browser windows with the Photoshop Help site. Holding down Alt while switching back to Photoshop doesn't work. No Layer Styles here, no color picking, just trying to shrink a selection.

I'm running Photoshop CS4 under Windows 7.

You know what would be useful? An option to prevent Photoshop from ever opening a browser window for anything, because there are no circumstances in which I'm going to need to pull up the Adobe site from within Photoshop instead of just going there myself.

This seems to happen totally at random - but always when in the Layer Styles pane.

You'll be selecting a color or gradient and suddenly the window focus will go and a million tabs of the "Photoshop help/help and tutorials" page will load.

Normally this at least crashes Chrome. Sometimes it crashes both Chrome and Photoshop. Once I've had it lock up the entire computer.

I managed to get a screen shot below demonstrating the issue. Look at all the tabs its loaded!

This is happening enough to be a genuine annoyance - not to mention fear of loosing work.

Please help!

Hey guys, I just had this problem some minutes back and got it solved. Just wanted to share it if no one hasn't. ;)

I figured that if it was caused by colour picking, then I had to press the alt button to solve it. I select colours while colouring with the alt key.

I made my browser occupy less of the screen so I can see Photoshop in the background. Then held the alt key and clicked on the "Ok" or some other button of the colour picker window.

I agree! There should be some type of tool that Adobe could create for us users having issues. If any kind of NDA is needed then show me where to sign. Please Adobe lets solve this issue together.

Good idea.

I would happy to run a debug build of Photoshop and try to replicate the problem, in hopes of catching some useful information in the logs.

Look guys it definitly know what sometimes Help window pops out.

Could photoshop team write small utliity which watches Adobe Photoshop running, especially Adobe Help window, and generate usage reports.
After we (users who facing this type of issues) could send this report to Adobe.

Yes! I forgot to mention this aspect of the problem. I've experienced a barrage of "help" windows popping up simultaneously, too. When it's happened, I think my machine even locked up on me, until it finally caught up.
And I believe it happened to me when I was still using Vista, too. So I'm pretty sure it's not OS version-specific.

I've used several past versions of Photoshop on both Windows and Mac and this has only occurred since I was just upgraded to windows 7 and photoshop CS6. I'm surprised this bug has persisted through version of the software.

Sometimes it opens up 4+ of these windows at once. I racked up about 20 of these windows in a few seconds, which nearly took up all of my ram.

I have the same problem. Very frustrating.

It's afflicted Photoshop for at least 3 versions now. More probably.

When I first experienced it, it would pop up the online help on Adobe's site, in my default browser. Now it pops up the community help window. Same issue, slightly different symptom.

I've always thought about changing the name of an executable somewhere (on a PC) to thwart the bug . . . but never bothered.

I just think it's funny. It's like Photoshop saying, 'Hey man, I can see you're a n00b, here get yourself some help with that!'
Which might be cool, if it triggered at the right times . . . but it doesn't. I know how to color-pick.
