P: Canvas size doesn't save relative dimensions on recording an action

I would like to change the canvas size via action in Photoshop 27.4. I’ve tried to record changing canvas size but I doesn’t work correctly. The dimensions wasn’t saved.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a document.

  2. Create a new action in the “Action” panel. The recording starts automatically

  3. Go to Image → Canvas Size…

  4. Let the units as it is.

  5. Switch the size mode from to Relative.

  6. Enter values for Width and Height

  7. Click OK to apply.

  8. Stop recording the action.

In the action the appropriate parameter for Width and Height are empty.

The same steps in Photoshop 27.2 working correctly.

The same issue was reported for the Photoshop Beta here.

P: Canvas Size relative Width/Height not recorded in Actions (values saved as blank) | Adobe DME

A temporarly workaround is to deactivate “Enable Modern User Interface” option. After a restart of Photoshop it worked.

Actions doesn’t record Export As either.

@cannon303 You’ve post a similar issue in an existing thread, but it isn’t the same.

You’re right “Export As” isn’t recoded in an action. I’ve check this

But that error isn’t depending from the  “Disable Modern User Interface” option as the problem that’s described here.

It’s better you’re posting you issue to a new thread with complete informations about your issue. Please include system information, a detailed description of the problem and if it's possible a step-by-step instructions for reproduction. Also includes the steps that you've done by your own to solve the issue.

Moderators, @Mohit Goyal,  please split this into seperate post.

Hey, @AxelMatt. The comment lacks enough information to warrant creating a new post. If you have tested this workflow and can confirm it worked previously, please feel free to create a new bug report. I will then merge this comment into that report.

I’ve been having the same problem, and the “Disable Modern User Interface” workaround solved it for me. Thank you.

@Xerip disable this option in the preference and restart Photoshop

After the latest Photoshop update, Actions are not properly recording Canvas Size or Crop dimensions.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open any image (transparent background PNG tested)
    2. Start recording a new Action
    3. Go to Image > Canvas Size
    4. Enter specific values (e.g. 2024 x 2024 px)
    5. Confirm and stop recording

    Expected result:
Canvas Size width and height values should be recorded and visible inside the Action.

    Actual result:
Canvas Size is recorded, but Width and Height values are missing or not saved.

    Additional notes:
    - Issue occurs consistently
    - Tested multiple times
    - Worked correctly in previous Photoshop versions
    - Affects automation workflows significantly

Same problem with 27.5. Original report was made in creative cloud forum with recommendation to post here. Height/width for Canvas Size cannot be set in action, not being recognized, and cannot use edit to create a value.

Not sure if related, but the Dialog box for Canvas Size has been changed in PS 27.5

I have been trying to record an action in in Photoshop (version 27.5 on desktop) that includes setting the canvas size to a specific height and width (3600 x 3600 pixels). I have created similar actions in the past so I know that this should work, but for some reason now it doesn’t. The Canvas Size function is still working, it just isn’t recording the new canvas dimensions I’m inputting as part of the action, and so when I play back the action on an image whose canvas I want to resize the action does nothing.

I’ve tried this several times now, and each time I record the action it shows up in the Actions menu, and it shows that the set Canvas Size function is a part of the action, but when I expand that step to show its details it lists a blank space besides Width and Height rather than the 3600 px I set for the width and 3600 px I set for the height when recording the action (see screenshot below). Though it wouldn’t serve the purpose of what I’m trying to do with this action, I tried recording the action with a percentage-based and then an inch-based new Canvas Size, but in each case the saved recordings produced the same results, with nothing listed for the Width and Height for the actions in the Action menu and the action itself not changing the canvas size when they’re played.

Again, creating an action that set the Canvas Size to a specific height and width (in pixels) worked for me in the past, so I don’t know why it doesn’t work now. It’s an action that saves me a lot of time so I hope this bug can be fixed and I can get that functionality back into my workflow.

The recording of the set Canvas Size function is not capturing the Width and Height as input

Same problem - Photoshop 27.5 Desktop

Existing Action setting canvas size no longer works. Creating a new action to set a canvas size does not save height/width values. Cannot edit the height/width canvas size settings in an action. Width and height are blank and will not accept a value.

I don’t know if this is related, but Adobe changed how the Canvas Size Dialog Box appears.

Yes—this describes the problem much more succinctly!

I had noticed Canvas Size dialog box looks different now, too, and wondered if this had anything to do with the problem.
