P: Convert to Video Timeline option missing - Apple M1 devices

I am not able to select anything but "Create Frame Animation" in the Timeline. I am trying to create a Video Timeline, but not using Frame animation. This option isn't in the bottom left or top right of the Timeline menu.

I have tried resetting my preferences, uninstalling and re-installing, creating a new document, and converting all layers to smart objects, and none of those have worked. I have a macbook pro with macOS Big Sur version 11.2.3 with an Apple M1 chip.

Thank you for the help!

After you get Rosetta installed, browse to the location of Photoshop in the
Applications folder in the Finder. Right click on the app icon and select
"Get Info" from the popup menu. In the information window, check the
checkbox that says "Open using Rosetta". Now start Photoshop and notice
that it runs a lot slower, but some missing functionality is restored.

In my experience, I was able to tell it to render video again, but then it
crashed and would not finish the render.

Good luck!

You're welcome. 🙂

We are mostly fellow product users here.  I don't work for Adobe.

Hi @Nancy OShea . I am now running Rosetta 2, and the workaround works, thanks. My posting got merged with this older thread recently -- a thread which did not come up when I searched the Adobe forums initially.

Before purchasing a new M1 computer, I read about which Adobe products were M1 compatible, but I did not think to seek out information on which functions within the various products were not yet working. Perhaps it would make sense to to update the link above with asterics that link to the details about which M1 compatible products are currently lacking specific functions -- so we can all get back to the fun stuff sooner. Cheers!

Bonjour,

Merci!

Video is 100% supported on the M2 chip.  I am using Photoshop V22.0.0 on an M2 with full video editing capabilities.  This broke however in furture releases of Photoshop and Adobe doesn't care to fix it apparently.

@J453 said:

If you're on a new Apple M1 processor machine, video isn't current supported. It's coming in the future. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-for-apple-silicon.html

Thank you, Jeffery, to you and the team! I'll be watching for it before I move to an M1 computer.

Running in Rosetta is not a fix its a janky sorry excuse for a workaround.  The previous verison of photoshop supported video with the M1 chip flawlessly, this is just something Adobe doesn't want to fix for some reason in the current verison (or can't).  I pay for full funactionality of this software (or so i thought) and not to open the program 49 different ways to get it every feature to work.  Get it together Adobe, this is sad.

@BGPictures

Are you running Photoshop through Rosetta 2?
