P: Create new window not reflecting right dimensions from clipboard

Hello, I am having an issue with photoshop where File > New > is not auto-inputting the clipboard size into the canvas size for the new document. This has worked on every version of photoshop until this point. I sadly ended up on version 23.3.2 (photoshop just updated itself in the last couple days I guess without me noticing, and I am pretty sure I had that auto update turned off since I reverted back to 22.2 a couple weeks ago, sigh)

Have you guys considered testing your product before launching updates? I reverted back to 22.2 because of all the bugs I was experiencing with the latest versions. Seems turning auto update off cant even save me.

that's likely a byproduct of the absolute travesty of an application "adobe creative cloud" is.  some of the worst software I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with -- and don't even get me started on corporate deployments.

My mistake.  I have the fix already with the latest update.  Funny, it didn't work yesterday, but whatever.

I understand if Adobe thinks there are other workflows to support, but removing completely the one that used to be first in line (screen capture - File-New - paste from clipboard) from the new UI seems to be shortsighted. Just give us a different way to do it in the new UI, please.

Thank you Adobe for fixing it.   I really appreciate it.

Indeed Pete, with this new build, with Use Legacy "New Document" Interface off, the bug is fixed (MacOS).

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

The fix for this should be available to all now and will come from the Creative Cloud desktop app, and not through a Photoshop update.

To update:

  • Visit the Creative Cloud Desktop app's "Updates" tab, and click Check for Updates.
  • If that doesn't resolve it, try signing out of Creative Cloud desktop app, and signing back in.

If you performed this workaround, you may need to revert those workaround steps to receive the updated plugin.

If updated successfully, you will see "Home Screen (Loaded) 5.12.1.4" in Photoshop's Help > System Info in the section above the final "Extensions" list.

Thank you for your patience and apologies for the hiccup in your workflow with this one.

Regards,

Pete

how is it "community professionals" that are often the least professional people in the forum?

By SimplTrix

Community professionals don't (shouldn't) make up assumptions about what goes on inside Adobe they know nothing about (like how long it takes to fix a bug).

Community professionals volunteer to assist other users in solving problems with fact based solutions.

Again, you can believe that Adobe is going out of its way to not fix this because they want to upset the user base. Or you can believe this actual bug isn't as easy to fix as people who have zero knowledge of the PS code base assume

Pick either, it isn't going to get the fix out any faster.

There seems to be strong opinions about how software should be developed, by people (AFAIK) having no experience developing software.

Well said! For every one that posts about this, there probably are thousands that read the "work around" and don't bother to post. That indicates that literally hundereds of thousands are afflicted by this bug that adobe refuses to fix. I was a maintence mechanic for years working on cnc machines, I learned how to trouble shoot, something which the "team" of "engineers" at adobe seeminly do not know how to do. All they would have to do is look back at the changes they made just prior to causing this bug, test each step until they find the cause, then fix it. But they apparently do not have enough sense to do that... They seem to be more interested in introducing more half baked “new features” that break other things that people use on a regular basis, which they don’t have time to fix but continously claim a fix is “coming in future updates”, but they rarely do.

Hello everyone.

First, we hear you, trust us, we do.  The team is working on this and it will be resolved, it's not a one day fix due to the many areas/teams this issue touches.

Please review the terms for use of these forums and let's keep things civil.
