Hello community, I work on Imac MacOs Monterey and Photoshop 23.2.1. When I open (a large). PSD file, I see the layers in the palet, but cannot see the image. What's happening and what can I do to fix this issue?

I fixed my « blank workspace » issue by unckecking this in my Preferences:

• Preferences ➥ Technology Previews ➥ Enable Native Canvas Rulers

Presuming you did some of usual stuff; restart the system, delete prefs, etc. 

You may also try the Deactivate Native Canvas option to see if that helps. If that does not help, send along your Photoshop > Help > System Info, so we can take a closer look at your hardware setup. Initially, it looks like the GPU is blowing out, but more details about the hardware could help us confirm. 

You may also update your GPU driver from your GPU manufacturer to the latest version; that is always recommended if these kinds of display issues start to crop up.

I was making something and converted it to a smart object to use the camera raw filter, but when I finished using it and opened the smart object, it showed nothing but black. 

When I open a file my workspace is blank, contents and viewport frame are invisible. The layers contents are editable but I can't see what I'm doing until I access the « Save For Web » window from where everything is visible.

MY ENVIRONMENT:

• Photoshop CC version 23.2.1
• Apple Macbook Pro (14"), Silicon M1 PRO/ARM64 processors

Everything WAS working fine until two days ago (February 23th 2022). I don't remember if it was following an update or not since my preferences are sets to « auto update »... Now I'm working blindly in an image editing app which let's just say is not that great.

In my experince, opening any file that uses 3D feature in it will cause this to happen for all subsequent files even if those files don't contain 3D content.

@f3etor , the best technique for Photoshop's GPU management, when you have a second monitor, is to quit Photoshop, attach the monitor, then launch Photoshop; it has some difficulties swapping GPU context on the fly, and quitting/restarting ensures Photoshop's operating conditions are set from the beginning. If Photoshop's main UI is on the wrong screen when you launch, drag it over to the other monitor, and quit/relaunch.

Many thanks for your reply. It doesn't contain 3d content. Funnily enough, I tried to open the file again this morning (without restarting the device). Now I see the workspace and also the image again. I hope it will be the same in the office as soon as I connect the external screen. Funny story.
