P: Move Tool - Toggle auto select shortcut changed

Hello. The changed shortcuts to toggle the autoselection of layers with the move tool selected is highly frustrating to me. I used to have a great workflow with auto select turned on and used cmd to drag elements that were either off-canvas or too small / too transparent to grab them. Now it seems to be inverted: I need to turn auto select off to toggle with cmd. When it is turned on, cmd seems to toggle now between layer and group auto selection.
I can't understand why this was changed or is at least not something I can switch between in the preferences.

Thanks you very much for looking into this.

Thanks! This also works perfect for me. A somewhat easy fix for us. I still hope that they address the issue in the next update.

This toggle update is dramatically messing with common practice workflow. Really really need to know this will be updated soon. Major failure of Photoshop team to leave dedicated users hanging for over a month. When is the next update??

Photoshop hasn't had an update since 15.2.1.
Are you confusing the Camera Raw 8.7 update with a Photoshop update?

I got the next PS2014 CC update today and this is still not fixed. Please (please) revert or at least give us an option to make it like before:

With 'Autoselect Layer' checked:

CMD/Ctrl+Drag should lock onto the selected layer allowing to move the layer even when the cursor is off of the object.

This is how it always was and is a major setback to have to try and work differently. (I don't need the CMD to toggle between Autoselect Layer/Group, instead CMD/Ctrl should lock onto the selected layer while dragging around the canvas. Like it always was! (Keep the legacy).

Is there any timeframe for rolling back this feature to behave like it always did? I would really like to know when we'll get our usable version back in place. This is unusable for me as well.

Up until Photoshop CC 2014 you could press the command key on a mac to temporarily toggle-on or toggle-off auto-select.

Since 2014.2.1 the auto-select checkmark was replaced with a button with the following alt-text: "Automatically select a group or a layer when clicking on a visible pixel". With that change, it seems the old toggle functionality has been lost.

Please re-incorporate that feature, it was really great...

Totally agree. I have never complained about a feature change ever but this is near intolerable. They've siad they're rolling it back, but when? Not soon enough, that's for sure.

The new Control key toggle between Auto Select Layer, Auto Select Group raises a lot of problems and it's really not as useful as it was previously.
Having many layers I use the Auto-Select option. I select my layer and then hold Control to drag it (works perfectly for really small layers). But now, holding control selects the whole group. Not even the closest parent, but the top one (this is not useful as many designers keep things tidy by having groups within groups).
As a designer who's been using PS for over 15 years, this is the first time I am completely dissatisfied with an interface change (I even tolerated the changing of the shortcut key for blur&smudge tool), the first time I am complaining.
Please change it back or find another solution, or give us a checkbox to tick to revert back.

Thanks Joe! That does the trick. I'll wait and watch this thread to see it get resolved and every gets happy again before upgrading again.
