P: Nvidia users are dropping out of GPU mode when using type tool

So yes i know i am using a very old graphics card the 770M but things were working just fine until a few days ago when this new patch hit. Still running windows 10 like before.

Now i can't find a way to get scrubby zoom to work again, its just greyed out. Anyone else having issues?

Graphics processor is ticked on and under advanced settings use openCL and anti alias guides and paths are turned on. I have restarted my computer. I have reinstalled my graphics driver. Anything i can think of

This problem should be addressed by updating to Photoshop 2023 (v24.x)

Good news, version 24.0.0 is working okay with Scrubby zoom.

While the latest update on 23 - version 23.5.2 the issue still remains!

Hi

You'll need to provide more detailed information, what exact version of Photoshop and operating system do you have and what are your computer system specs as in CPU, GPU and RAM etc, perhaps you could post a screenshot to highlight the issue.

I had the same problem. Black screen when using Text tool in photoshop on Mac.

It helped quitting photoshop. Holding command, alt and shift when re-opening photoshop. Click yes when deleting PS settings folder and problem solved.

CoryShubert, Thank you. That worked for me.

Beta version 24.1 solves the problem on my computer. (Nvidia Quadro K5000 with the latest driver) without the need to opt-in "Deactivate Native Canvas".

While last working version without that issue for me is 23.4.2 and I work with it.

The last version 23.5.1 deactivates the scrubby zoom once I start text typing (this is with deactivated native canvas, otherwise it doesn't work at all).

To be clear this also affects AMD graphics users.

I have the same problem on Windows 10 with 6900XT and latest AMD drivers (22.9.1)

@Bojan Živković11378569 ,

I upgraded to the 9/20 release and the problem still occurred in the shipping version (you have to have 'Deactivate native canvas' checked and restart to see the issue).

  • On Mac, the problem is the screen goes black while you're editing text.
  • On Windows, the problem is that the screen flashes momentarily, then scrubby zoom (an option with the magnifying glass tool) grays out.

There is new Studio driver 517.40 for nVidia GPU's which is dated to 09/20/2022. I didn't have any problem so no changes for me. Have anyone with problems tried to install latest studio driver? I am using GeForce Experience to update, by the way.
