P: Object Selection very slow response Photoshop 23.5

Current latest PS version is 23.5

And Object Selection is really slow.

It wasn't like this until the early version of PS 2022, but it's getting slower and at 23.5, it's really weirdly slow.

I thought there might be a speed difference between turning on and off the option, so I compared it, but the results were the same.

Precise previews for 16bit document on/off

Native canvas on/off

Multithread compositing on/off

Use Graphic Processor on/off

Image Processing- Select Subject(Device , Cloud) : I don't know if this affects object selection, but I tried changing options.

The size of the test image below is really small. 1000px x 667px (sRGB, 8bit document)

The reason why I tested it with a small image was because I thought it was because of the large image and the number of layers.

But if you look at the gif image below, you can see a huge difference in loading and speed

This is Photoshop 23.5's object selection.

Even though the end is cut to meet the gif capacity, the loading time in front is long. Once again, the test image is very small.

And Now this is Photoshop 21.0.3's object selection. you can check this...

Can you see the difference? It's a big difference.

This is the difference in speed that appears even though the image used in the test is really small.
In the actual working image (6000x8000px), there is a loading as if the computer had stopped a little bit.
It's the same if you try to select a very small, very simple part of a real image, not a lot of it.

This needs to be improved Speed or delay. In fact, the masking quality of those two images was almost the same.

@ya26149125npyr I also "hope" that the new nvdia studio driver will come out soon after it is released, but I don't think it will come out on the same day or the next day.

And what I'm curious about is that if I install a new Nvidia driver (for fix photoshoo crash), will all crashes from 23.0 to 23.4.2 be fixed?

If that is possible, not only 23.5.2 but also all the builds released in 2022 can be used normally, so there is a wide range of choices for us.

But I was when Nvidia to ask about this, they are suitable for the launch of a new driver and Photoshop that patches to normal will be available to go to Washington.

So I think we should just pray that 23.5.2 comes up soon......

I think 23.5.2 will be released on the day Nvidia's new driver comes out, or the day after.

How much longer do we have to wait? It's so hard for me that I haven't used Photoshop's tools properly for a year.
This is the first time I have experienced this while using Photoshop. I know programs can't be perfect, but it's a very different story to not being perfect and a tool not working all the time. Even the contents inserted in YouTube or banner advertisements talk about the convenience and speed of individual selection tools. It's a story that's so contrary to the reality I'

I was tired waiting for an update, so I just ordered a radeon. I hope this will solve it........
But I'm sure it's an issue for Nvidia, but I'm worried that there's someone who's having this problem even though they're using Radeon.
I'm worried that the Radeon GPU has a severe fever.=(

When will 23.5.2 come out? Do I have to wait another month? OMG
I haven't been able to use the object selection tool properly for a variety of reasons this year.
Crash out.... Slow....
It is regrettable that none of the updated Photoshop versions in 2022 has guaranteed the expected speed and stability. What's even sadder is that this sad reality will take another month to reach 23.5.2.
If the problem remains unresolved, the release will not be updated naturally to Photoshop 2023, right? No way... Until 2023...

Hi all,

Yes, it is still not fixed in Photoshop 23.5.1 Desktop app, and our engineering team is still investigating the fix for this issue. I have forwarded the latest responses to the engineering team.

I really apologize for the incorrect update.

Thanks,

Mohit

@kikovo Wow! Did you test all the versions? Thank you for your effort!!
Then what version do you recommend until the object selection tool is fixed in 2022? Judging from your test results, 2021 seems appropriate. Is it correct? Which version will be the best in 2021?

From yesterday to today, I installed different versions of many years(2020~2022) and compared them.
There was definitely a difference in the speed and quality of the object selection tool.

Speed : 2020 is fastest, 2022(23.5~23.5.1) is slowest

Quality : 2022 (Before 23.5. 23.1~23.4.2)

Stable : 2020~2021. 2022 is really unstable for me.

So, Clearly, 2022 has improved quality compared to 2020 and 2021.
But, It's been slow enough to be hard to use because of the crash, and it seems that there needs to be enough adjustment.
Of course, the quality of 2022 is maintained in 23.5 and 23.5.1.
But in order to do that, waiting 5 to 10 seconds for each select...I don't know if it's reasonable. Because even if edit the selection area to get the same quality in 2020 and 2021, for example, the total time is about 2-3 seconds.
And I read the article about GPU and CPU processing, and I understood why the speed dropped sharply from 23.5 version although it is of the same quality.

It would be best to realize the fastest speed of 2020, but I hope that it will be restored to its original state even if it is up to 23.4.2 for now. Please change it again so that it can be processed by GPU. Of course, the crash needs to be fixed.

I agree that it has not been fixed. NVIDIA forum also says that a driver that solves the photoshop issue will be released soon, so please make it work as a GPU again when it is released.

@dopeheb8 Good example! Thank you.
I don't know why the thread was changed because it was fixed for something that hasn't been fixed.
Adobe Yukie Takahashi's said, need to realease new driver for solve this problem.
(Because the reason why this object selection tool was slowed was a temporary measure to avoid a crash, eventually the crash must be resolved to solve it.)
And 23.5.1 Beta allowed users to temporarily select CPUs and GPUs to reduce the hassle of installing 23.0~23.4.2 and 23.5 alternately, but I gave feedback on that. This is because if the crash is resolved, the existing high speed can be used as it is, and then there is no reason for the option to occur.

So the bottom line is that Nvidia and Adobe have to work together to solve it, and its biggest start is that new drivers should be released on Nvidia.

You will also hope that it will be fixed soon. Keep an eye out for the launch of the new Nvidia driver. I don't know when it will be, but the object must be fixed at least after the new driver is released.
