P: Object Selection very slow response Photoshop 23.5

Current latest PS version is 23.5

And Object Selection is really slow.

It wasn't like this until the early version of PS 2022, but it's getting slower and at 23.5, it's really weirdly slow.

I thought there might be a speed difference between turning on and off the option, so I compared it, but the results were the same.

Precise previews for 16bit document on/off

Native canvas on/off

Multithread compositing on/off

Use Graphic Processor on/off

Image Processing- Select Subject(Device , Cloud) : I don't know if this affects object selection, but I tried changing options.

The size of the test image below is really small. 1000px x 667px (sRGB, 8bit document)

The reason why I tested it with a small image was because I thought it was because of the large image and the number of layers.

But if you look at the gif image below, you can see a huge difference in loading and speed

This is Photoshop 23.5's object selection.

Even though the end is cut to meet the gif capacity, the loading time in front is long. Once again, the test image is very small.

And Now this is Photoshop 21.0.3's object selection. you can check this...

Can you see the difference? It's a big difference.

This is the difference in speed that appears even though the image used in the test is really small.
In the actual working image (6000x8000px), there is a loading as if the computer had stopped a little bit.
It's the same if you try to select a very small, very simple part of a real image, not a lot of it.

This needs to be improved Speed or delay. In fact, the masking quality of those two images was almost the same.

@dopeheb8, yes, but notice the differences in the final selection (results from the faster 22.4.2 first and the slower 22.5.1 second). I'm still studying the results. Sometimes the selection is better with the slower version. Is waiting that extra bit of time up front worth it, considering the extra time involved to fix the faster result?

@Mohit Goyal Still not fixed here either, can you amend the fixed issues to exclude this as been fixed in version 23.5.1 because it's clearly not

It is still broken not only in 23.5 but also in 23.5.1.

Seriously, is fixed in 23.5.1...........?
You can see the version number in front of the GIF I attached.
I don't think it's fixed at all. It's the same as 23.5. I've been comparing 23.5 and 23.5.1 alternately since a few hours ago, but nothing has been fixed

Version 23.5.1 Photoshop
Window10/Window11 (I have two desktops.)
2080rtx        3070rtx

Same slow. I've experienced this since 23.5 and it hasn't been fixed yet. The original speed is much faster than this.
Reddit confirmed that the problem was handled by the CPU, not the GPU. But my CPU is pretty good. It's still slow. I'll have to ask Nvidia, but I'll also report to the Photoshop community first.
Object Selection Tools with unusual slow speeds are not available.

@Mohit Goyal  Also, Adobe Developers previously said that they have temporarily changed it to be handled by the CPU to avoid crashes over the past year. I know that's why it's been slow since version 23.5.
And he said Nvidia's new driver release should solve the crash.
However, Nvidia's latest driver is 516.94 released on August 9, and a new driver has not yet been released.
So, again, if you want to take advantage of the GPU as well as before, you need to release a new driver to avoid a crash
This issue is not resolved because the current 23.5.1 degree speed has not been fixed.

Please change this thread's fix back to problem investigation. IT'S NOT FIXED YET on 23.5.1

@Mohit Goyal  Not fixed yet 23.5.1

It is much slower than the tools of 2020/2021.(include 23.0~23.4.2 But 23.0~23.4.2 can't use resaon why agreesive crashing)

In 23.5.2, I hope it will be fixed.

What I did for fix Object Selection Tool.

  • Change Driver Version (Use DDU) Studio driver
  • Reinstall Photoshop
  • Restore System Defaults
  • GPU change RTX2060 → RTX3070
  • CPU change Ryzen5600x → Ryzen5950x

None of that was effective.
