P: Photoshop 22.0: Where is Line Weight/Width and Pixels options?

I'm having trouble using the Line Tool in PS 22.0.0.

How do I set the width/weight of the line? In PS 21 there was a "Weight" option along the top bar, but I don't see that anymore. Am I missing it? Or did it move?

This might be a separate issue, but the lines I'm drawing are not showing up. I have a fill color and stroke color selected, but when I make a line, I don't see it. I just see a blue outline of where it is... the same that might happen if I made a "path" instead of a "shape."

I just need to make a line with a width/weight of 20px.

It absolutely blows my mind Adobe would consider removing this functionality in an update, let alone just rolling it out. Did they consult anyone on whether they used this obvious CORE TOOL in the workflow of a raster-based art app?

Why not included both options as separate tools? It's weird "pixel" is included but greyed out.

The problem with Adobe's response, respectfully, is that people are paying $20-50 per month to use this software, and yet updates take months / years.

Photoshop for iPad still doesn't have basic drawing tools like pen or paths, yet alternative popular apps which cost a one-off 5% of an annual Adobe subscription have all of these features and get free updates.

I'm not interested in how hard it is for devs to reverse this, telling us to inconveniently roll-back an update - Adobe adopted a service model, and customers expect a service. It's unbelievable professionals relying on this software can no longer draw pixel-based weighted lines in Photoshop. It's not good enough. Get better, respond quicker and listen to users / subscribers.

mark_dahm  Just Restore Line Weight and the Arrowheads base on line weight Percentage.  Change weight  1 to 100 to 0 to 100 pixels. You can have your new line path without Arrowheads tough and we can have what has worked all there years. However, some users did not like the line tool because they used other Adobe Products that work differently.  My son is one of them for he also uses AI. He also did like the changes Adobe made to the Photoshop line tool for it did not help he still could not do in Photoshop what he could do in AI.

IMO you can not make All happy Vector-Based and Pixel Based applications have different capabilities and operations. Work on better file support for Vector and Raster file in Photoshop and AI. That will help users better than Breaking user's works-flows.

"But wouldn't the non-rasterized lines be more useful and interactive in most cases?"

Hi Mark. Even though PS has focused mostly on photo editing (duh), many people still use it for illustration like drawing, digital painting, etc. The function you describe requires extra steps that slow down peoples' workflow. For example, I use PS for concept art and rely heavily on linework, and a simple straight line made out of pixels is extremely useful for this due to its speed and simplicity. If I need to edit it, I erase it and redraw it. All the steps you and other Adobe employees are suggesting don't address this issue. I also understand that the editing options give line and shapes more illustrator-like functionality, but why not have both? Is there a way that CC users can ask for this to come back? Thank you

Thank you for responding Mark. In the end, all we can hope for is that Adobe is actually listening to the very serious complaints here, not just marking it solved. I feel much better about the situation hearing that Adobe is genuinely looking for ways to restore the functionality, not just relying on the short term work-arounds being discussed here.

If we can honestly expect a return to original functionality sometime in the future, then I can wait to update, that's perfectly acceptable. Even if the lead times are longer than we want, I can understand and wait patiently for the problem to be solved if it means we eventually get a usable version of Photoshop 22.0.

Hi *FlowstateImagery , the length of this thread is making it hard to track the conversation permutations; we're looking into ways to restore the previous functionality.

I know when is the next question; we're still working out the details; as you might imagine, the lead time on features in development can be long (weeks), and feathering in new work requires coordination that we haven't figured out yet. We're focused right now on how to build the required functionality, and we'll sort out how and when to get that into the right build eventually, but I didn't want to wait for all that to happen before responding.

I understand the need for a quick resolution; for now, the previous version can be installed side by side with the current version, which will not have these same limitations for the time being.

Hi Mark!

Thanks for taking the time to look at this and for responding. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Even if you are able to keep all your current work and efforts and simply add back in the previous line tool as a different/legacy tool or option I think would be great for a lot of us. 🙂

So, Mark. You're reading this. Any response to my initial question? Is there a possibility to a return to original functionality? Legacy option? Your silence speaks volumes.

Thanks, @renedamkot , I see that the rectangle tool lacks the drawing flexibility to fully replace the unique characteristics that were specific to the former line tool.

Indeed. Thanks Rene. I was concerned that my solution wouldn't take some of the other issues I don't have into account.

It does seem to be at least a partial solution to pixel problem, it really is an oversight for the brush to not have the straight line capability anyway...

At the moment Ive been using the rotation tool and holding shift key while drawing a line with the brush tool. Pretty terrible workaround but its all I can think of.
