P: Photoshop 22.0: Where is Line Weight/Width and Pixels options?

I'm having trouble using the Line Tool in PS 22.0.0.

How do I set the width/weight of the line? In PS 21 there was a "Weight" option along the top bar, but I don't see that anymore. Am I missing it? Or did it move?

This might be a separate issue, but the lines I'm drawing are not showing up. I have a fill color and stroke color selected, but when I make a line, I don't see it. I just see a blue outline of where it is... the same that might happen if I made a "path" instead of a "shape."

I just need to make a line with a width/weight of 20px.

I just remember when they took out the PSD preview functionality... and even though it was a disruptive change, they never fixed it.

That's only a workaround for the pixel problem.
I use the line tool all the time to create straight paths (not shapes) of a specific width. I need four anchor points. Not two.

I could use the rectangle tool, but that would be less precise and a *lot* more cumbersome.

I feel like there are options here and would like to propose an alternate solution. It seems to me that this entire issue could be rectified simply by integrating the missing line functionality into the brush tool. By restoring the ability to add arrowheads to the brush/pencil and add a feature that straightens the brush stroke if you hold at the end, I think you solve most of these problems. Even a $5 program like Procreate has the ability to draw a straight line with pixels and I believe Adobe sketch has the same.

I'm sure this isn't necessarily the easiest solution to implement, but at least Adobe doesn't lose a whole cross-section of editors and digital artists/painters.

Downgrading and halting any auto-updates is just the start, I already did that on all my computers as soon as it was apparent that the problem would not be resolved immediately. At this point, what concerns me most is the long term viability of Photoshop if I can't update it. Line functionality is so important to my workflow that if it doesn't return, I will have no other option but research new editing programs. That is a statement I never thought I would ever make about Adobe products.

I'm genuinely distraught and saddened by the lack of realistic response here. All I see from Adobe are inelegant work-arounds that result in serious workflow disruption.

This is what Mark said above "We are looking at how to restore those workflows."

Unless there is a return to previous functionality I feel there will be droves of users who decide to halt their updates going forward. I for one have already downgraded and stopped all forthcoming auto-updates.

I don't see any response from @mark142840_dahm that seems to consider any option of returning the functionality of the line, even as a legacy option.

@mark142840_dahm, I am asking you this directly; Is there any discussion/possibility at all that we will see a return of the previous functionality?

The line tool on pixel mode is so important to my retouching work.

I am a jewelry retoucher and use the line tool on pixels mode for retouching thin reflections and cleaning up straight edges on metals and gems. This is a very bad decision to omit something like this all of a sudden when it's been part of my workflow for years.

I push pixels around all day, not vector shapes. I can make similar straight lines with brush + shift, but the line tool is the best and more accurate for some things. Why is pixels mode available for the other shapes that are least likely to be used?

This is no feature to me, it is a problem. Adobe needs to bring back functionality to this. There is an entire software program dedicated to vector, this is not the place to be eliminating pixel editing functionality.

Hi Chuck,

The line tool now does have on-canvas controls, however at the same time we introduced those two end point handles, we also refactored the underlying line itself to two points instead of 4. I believe the implications to that change are what's interrupting pre-existing workflows for pixel drawing, et al.

We are looking at how to restore those workflows.

The line tool is now missing the "Pixels" option in Photoshop 2021. Although there has been much improvement in the vector drawing end, the pixels options was an often used feature that served very well for fast annotation, a de facto straight-edge tool, and fast perspective drawing that provided single stroke efficiency.

Although the new vector alternative options provide non-destructive editing, they all unfortunately require too many operations and keystrokes per stroke. Without the single-stroke efficiency of the pixels options in the previous line tool, drawing and layout in Photoshop has been seriously degraded and rendered nearly unusable for professional work.

Furthermore, with the required use of modifier keys such as "shift", "command", and "ctrl" used in the line tool, makes photoshop nearly unusable for users with tablet based computers. The hand that was previously used to hold a computer, is will now have to be placed on keyboard where it could be previously be folded away.

Please re-enable the pixels options in the Line Tool. If Adobe needs any more evidence the demographic of users that this affects, just go to artstation.com. Nearly every single image posted by its users relied on the single stroke pixel ability of the line tool to draw perspective quickly and efficiently.
