P: Photoshop 22.0: Where is Line Weight/Width and Pixels options?

I'm having trouble using the Line Tool in PS 22.0.0.

How do I set the width/weight of the line? In PS 21 there was a "Weight" option along the top bar, but I don't see that anymore. Am I missing it? Or did it move?

This might be a separate issue, but the lines I'm drawing are not showing up. I have a fill color and stroke color selected, but when I make a line, I don't see it. I just see a blue outline of where it is... the same that might happen if I made a "path" instead of a "shape."

I just need to make a line with a width/weight of 20px.

*RCH100 Totally agree.

I made a separate topic for this line / pixel problem only as it seems this thread is already marked with official solution. Not sure if Adobe will ever read this thread again since its "solved"

HI

I agree with the users in this post. I thought there was a bug in my version of PS 22 - must have wasted about an hour trying lots of different things before I finally looked for an explanation on a support line. It's the first time I've seen useful functionality removed from an update. All of the options suggested below are just awkward workarounds to overcome the removal of two useful Line Tool features in PS - drawing a rasterised line and adjusting the line weight and stroke weights separately. Drawing an angled line with a different fill and stroke colour and an arrowhead (say, to label items on a diagram) used to be easy, and now it isn't. Don't understand why this was done. Can I lend my voice to the pleas below to return this tool to its old functionality at the next update please?

In Photoshop 22 line tool cannot draw pixels. I really need this back to be able to manipulate masks with ease. (shift clicking a line with a brush doesnt work for me since I dont see the line created in real time.)

https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/photoshop/photoshop-220-where-is-line-weightwidth-and-pixels-options/5f9039ee917fbb3a9931cc53   <- in this thread many people have the same complaint. Topic states that there is official solution but in reality there is not. Please do not post recommendations of alternate methods of drawing a pixel line. They all include too many mouse clicks if you plan to draw simple lines constantly. Actually all the alternate methods make the basic line tools pixel mode seem even better.

The only acceptable solution for this is to bring back the deleted pixel mode of line tool.

@mark_dahm Any info when we might get the pixel line tool back?

While being unable to work in Photoshop I found this https://www.photopea.com/  <-  they have working line tool with pixels and it runs on browser without installing anything. (also opens .psd   and generally feels like a good version of Photoshop on browser)

@mark_dahm I use the 'line' tool all the time to draw paths of a specific width. This makes that impossible.

Guess that means I'm forced to reverting to the previous version to actually get work done.

Kudo's.

Looks like Photoshop actually gets less usable at every update. Please fix this.

Adobe desperately needs a “time wasted analysis engineer” on their team. Every Adobe product I use has poor design choices and misfeatures that are unnecessary and slow down my workflow.

I just don’t understand why one of the biggest and most profitable software companies can’t do better.

@mark_dahm I am surprised that the line arrow tool was changed to its current state. I was thinking that it needed an upgrade to work like the other live shapes do, where you can edit them, rotate them, etc. That would seem to make more sense. I don't know all the  coding that would be required to do that, but the math behind the arrow is pretty simple.

This is an exact and more concise explanation of the problem. Thank you!

I seriously hope by this thread alone Adobe realizes they made a serious error. This is one of those issues that if it's not corrected, I'll never update Photoshop again... to the point of leaving Adobe forever. This is a giant middle finger to the entire artistic world. This is a platform ending issue. There is no compromise that can happen regarding this tool. It was perfect before.

This is seriously one of those "what the hell were they thinking?!" moments. It legitimately causes anger because it destroys workflow and shows complete lack of thought by their actions. Adobe, you've cut the legs off of Photoshop. FIX THIS.

Side note: Anyone else feeling like PS is getting more and more bloated and laggy? I have a beast of a machine and this software is getting slower and slower.

@mark_dahm I watched your video and read all your solutions. They don't address the fundamental problem of not being able to commit a line to pixel with single stroke efficiency in Photoshop 2021. The line pixel functionality was a critical component to many artists because not only did it draw straight lines and commit immediately to pixels for speed, it was also a de facto straight edge and digital string tool for drawing AND checking perspective orthogonals.

The vector pen tool alternative that you suggest is not a new idea. The reason why many artists have avoided using it is not for a lack knowledge or awareness to it's existence, but for the pure fact in order to achieve the same thing involves more keystrokes and operations PER stroke (via a combination of layer merging and tool switching).

Furthermore, for artists that use Photoshop with a tablet based computer, having to now incorporate additional shift/option/ctrl key modifiers completely degrades the workflow and requires having a keyboard readily available; where the previous functionality the keyboard could be physically be put away and still be able to draw efficiently (the free hand could literally be used to hold the tablet computer).

What's the solution? Re-enable the pixels option for the line tool. If you need any more convincing of the demographic of users that this tool affects, just go to artstation.com.
