P: Photoshop 25.0 Graphics Processor Compatibility Check fails: Unknown GPU

Hello, I just updated to Photoshop 2024 but I cannot get it to work with GPU acceleration. When I start Photoshop, I get this error:

I am running a Windows 10 PC with two Nvidia RTX 3090 video cards and a 5950x CPU.

So far, I have tried:

- Setting Photoshop and sniffer.exe to use my, uh, 'high performance 3090' as opposed to my 'power saving' 3090 (excellent work, Windows)

- Updated to the latest Nvidia studio drivers and installed all Windows 10 updates

- Removed 'sniffer.exe' from the Photoshop folder as suggested, causes Photoshop to not boot.

- Enabled "Older GPU Mode" in the Technology Previews, get same error so I disabled it again.

- Tried setting the GPU in Nvidia Control Panel, but I don't have a "Preferred GPU" setting like a laptop or PC with integrated graphics.

- Disabled SLI

- Uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop 2024

- Manually ran sniffer.exe, it sees the video cards just fine

Even now - when new update is available - I can't update, because Photoshop 24 exe proccess is in memory still. Forgot to kill it.

@Nik Nastev Exactly my point. I run heaps of different design software, also ones that rely heavily on the GPU and not a single other application has problems with multi gpu setups. Those are quite common, especially in workstations that are used for design. The problem definitely is not the machine, the Windows setup or the driver, else other applications would also have problems. And as I said: PS24 runs just fine. Adobe's GPU detection is bug-ridden.

in workstations/desktop with multiple GPU's - those GPU's are not for beauty. They do the actual work in other software - for rendering and etc.

Adobe should make possible Photoshop su era ttoo use multiple GPU's togheter, and not sugest and give solutions to us to disable one or more GPU's. This is just not pro.

How other software have no problems like this with multiple GPU's? Even other apps from Adobe have not that big issues (and they have some unfortunatelly).

Deactivating one GPU in a dual setup is no solution.

First laptops tend to use the low end GPU to save power if highend GPU is not needed and switch to the highend GPU only when needed. Completely deactivating the low end GPU would lead to dramatically shorter battery runtime and would be a waste of energy. something that is not acceptable in a world of climate catastrophy.

In my desktop setup the second GPU runs screens and cannot be deactivated anyway, so that is no reasonable course of action.

Since PS24 runs completely fine until today and PS25 does not I clearly see this as an Adobe problem and not a driver or similar problem. Something was changed in Photoshop or it's myriads of running "tools" that leads to these problems.

And I still wonder what I am paying for, if solving this, so I can use the latest version I am entitled to through the subscription, takes months. Working in IT for decades I can understand that squashing bugs takes time and can be very difficult, but Adobe should compensate us for not being able to use the software we are paying for, instead of constantly putting us off.

Experiencing similar issue: Photoshop does not recognize my GPUs. Running 2x NVIDIA, a 3090 and a 4090.

Tried:

- Renaming "Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings"

C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2024\Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings

- Uninstall, reinstall PS2024 with remove preferences

- Updating drivers

- Rebooting after updating and reinstalling

- Checking for OpenGL/OpenCL compatibility pack (not installed AFAICT)

- Some other things that I'm too tired to remember at the moment.

@Mark.Dahm And I think when we swap old sniffer to replace the new one - Photoshop is not closing from memory, after closing Photoshop app. I need to manually kill the proccess. Just you know. This is for 24 and Beta - with old sniffer used.

Just tested with new broken sniffer - Photoshop Beta is closing just fine, without left exe proccess in memory.

@Mark.Dahm The problem with GPU's comes from one of Photoshop Beta first. Photoshop 24 was ok, but then after a couple of updates before - it was broken at one of updates.

So - it was working in current retail 24 version of Photoshop, but after Update from Adobe - then it was break.

Probably it is something hapening at Adobe side I think.

And to add to this - Photoshop 23 (previous version) is working just fine.

About previous Nvidia drivers test - unfortunately I can't do that, as for every Nvidia drivers update I need to restart and etc, which I prefer to avoid. I'm not a fan of frequently restarts and this workstation is all time working.

If I can help with some other test - you are welcome.

My thoughts are - this is something in Adobe changes in Photoshop or sniffer code. Off course Nvidia drivers are always ... (you know).
