P: Photoshop 27.10: "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom Classic & Lightroom Desktop does not load image with Denoise

There appears to be a reproducible compatibility issue between Lightroom Classic’s AI Denoise and the “Merge to Panorama in Photoshop” workflow.

When I send images from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop as a panorama, the Photomerge dialog opens normally and allows me to select the panorama method. However, after confirming the settings, Photoshop does not process or assemble the panorama.

I was able to isolate the problem to Lightroom Classic’s Denoise setting.

Reproduction steps:

1. Import RAW images into Lightroom Classic.
2. Apply Lightroom Classic’s AI Denoise to the images.
3. Select two or three images.
4. Choose Photo → Edit In → Merge to Panorama in Photoshop.
5. The Photomerge dialog opens normally.
6. Select a panorama method (e.g. Auto) and confirm.
7. Photoshop does not assemble the panorama.

Important findings:

• With Denoise disabled, the same panorama workflow works correctly.
• The problem also occurs with only one image having Denoise enabled and the other image(s) having Denoise disabled.
• The problem occurs with only two images, so it is not related to the number of images.
• If I reset the Lightroom development settings, the panorama works.
• If I enable Denoise again, the panorama fails.
• Opening the same images directly in Photoshop and using File → Automate → Photomerge works correctly.
• Sending the Lightroom-developed image from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop as a Smart Object also works correctly.

Therefore, the issue appears to be specifically related to the Lightroom Classic → Photoshop “Merge to Panorama” workflow when at least one source image has Lightroom AI Denoise applied.

This is fully reproducible with the same images by simply enabling or disabling Denoise.

Expected behavior:

Photoshop should receive the Lightroom-developed images and complete the Photomerge operation normally, including when Lightroom AI Denoise has been applied.

Actual behavior:

The Photomerge dialog opens, but after confirming the settings, the panorama is not assembled and the process does not complete.

System information:

• Lightroom Classic version: 15.5.1
• Photoshop version: 27.10.0
• Camera Raw version: 18.5.1
• Operating system: [WINDOWS 11 Pro 25H2
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 (8 GB)

Please investigate the interaction between Lightroom Classic AI Denoise and the “Merge to Panorama in Photoshop” workflow.

Photoshop Version - Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.10.0 20260824.r.26 9d9635d  arm64 (final, Release)

Lightroom Version - Lightroom Classic version: 15.5.1 [ 202608131348-cab7eed5 ]

Open an unedited NEF file in Lightroom. Click “Edit in Photoshop”. Photoshop launches and the image opens as a layer in Photoshop.

Open a basic edited NEF file in Lightroom. Click “Edit in Photoshop”. Photoshop launches and the image opens as a layer in Photoshop.

Open a Denoise edited NEF file in Lightroom. Click “Edit in Photoshop”. Photoshop launches but the image DOES NOT open as a layer in Photoshop.  All you get is the Welcome to Photoshop screen.

Twice, I uninstalled Photoshop, then Lightroom. Then restarted my computer (Mac Mini). Then installed Photoshop and Lightroom (in that order).  The problem still persists.

Are you using a Mac on Tahoe OS?
If so, there is a bug in Photoshop 27.10 that causes this.
Until it gets fixed, downgrade to version 27.9.1.

why can't I send a photo in LR Classic 15.5 directly to PS 2026, version 27.10.0)  to be editied? I have been able to until I installed the latest version of Photoshop.

Perhaps this has nothing to do with your drive, but with denoising. Maybe you tried a denoised image from the WD drive, and a not-denoised image from the older drive? This Photoshop problem is a known issue:

A few quick questions:

What is your OS and what release?

Have you given the new WD Passport permssion from your OS?

Does your LRC know about the new HD? What I mean by this, how did you get LRC content onto the new drive?

So been using wd passports for some time no issue.

The last one after finishing edit in lrc, i go to the “edit in ps” option.

ps opens but not the images.

gone back to old drives to test and it workes.

So guessing it is something with permissions or bug on the new one….?

Anyone experienced this?
