P: Photoshop can't open, freezes on splash image, uses all of ram trying to open then crashes.

I have googled every possible variation of this problem and tried every fix for this problem, none of them worked. I have tried reinstalling photoshop, deleting everything even remotely related to photohop in the appdata, deleting custom fonts, restarting the computer, updating graphics and computer, and holding every possible combination of alt, ctrl and shift while trying to launch in administrator mode. The result is always the same. It opens the splash image, gets to loading preferences or brushes, spikes RAM usage to every last byte of RAM I have, freezes the computer, then crashes.

And no i'm not running it on a potato i'm running it on an Alienware Aurora 4090, it should have more than enough power to handle this and Photoshop ran perfectly fine for months. Then just today it crashed and has never started up again.

Photoshop version 25.11

Help.

I was just with support for the last hour. She walked me thru how to rename all adobe files in all areas of my computer to adobe.old including the app data area, the program file, common files  and the  program 86x area. We renamed everything with an adobe file   Then we did a complete clean and re-installed creative cloud. We were then able to retrieve all of my settings and actions etc.  it works great now. Hope this helps

SOLVED: This is caused by any kind of beta of any kind of the Adobe app. I just solved it by deleting all of them (had the After Effects and the Encoder). The cleaner does nothing. I had to get rid of the betas through the CC app itself. Funny thing is that I had to find the solution myself on reddit as it seems Adobe itself has no idea what is going on. Hope this helps.

SOLUTION FOUND
Use creative cloud to uninstall ALL beta apps (including media encoder).

After that, regular apps should work.

There's something in an XML file related to a beta app that is causing TinyXML to call a function over and over to allocate memory - causing ALL apps to hang on launch and consume all system memoy.

Hello everyone,

I've been recently facing this issue, and as mentioned I've done everything. My Photoshop version is 2024. All other Adobe software is working just fine but Photoshop or Photoshop Beta is not opening, the loading screen pops up, but several times it was getting sucked on " Loading Fonts List" then the recently it got stuck on " Reading Preferences " and it stopped responding. Also, one time it showed "Catch in IPhotoshopApplication: class std::bad_alloc : bad Allocation" My storage is sufficient, and my RAM/ memory of my system is also functioning, but why am I not able to open any version of Photoshop, I can't find out. Looking for a solution, I've tried updating, reinstalling, deleting all my settings and preferences and opening but I couldn't find a fix.  Please I need desperate help for this problem.

The day when I would not have to deal with adobe's rediculous lags every other week would be a happy one

  • Latest version of Mac Sonoma (14.6).
  • Latest versions of Photoshop 2024 and Photoshop (beta) - also have rolled back a couple of versions.
  • I have cleared out pref/font/support/all folders and uninstalled/reinstalled many times.
  • Both apps seem to freeze loading at "Adding Extension Halide Bottlenecks" stage. Beach ball then nothing.
  • Have to Force Quit.
  • Both apps worked perfectly until yesterday, but not since I updated to Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.

Help??

What the heck guys(Adobe) - when is this getting fixed??? I have work to do!

Confirming that the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool, "Remove All" option, then reinstalling Creative Cloud and associated CS apps did resolve the issue. This absolutely needs to be addressed by the Adobe team before pushing anymore releases. This is the second time I've had to do this in two weeks.
