P: Photoshop can't open, freezes on splash image, uses all of ram trying to open then crashes.

I have googled every possible variation of this problem and tried every fix for this problem, none of them worked. I have tried reinstalling photoshop, deleting everything even remotely related to photohop in the appdata, deleting custom fonts, restarting the computer, updating graphics and computer, and holding every possible combination of alt, ctrl and shift while trying to launch in administrator mode. The result is always the same. It opens the splash image, gets to loading preferences or brushes, spikes RAM usage to every last byte of RAM I have, freezes the computer, then crashes.

And no i'm not running it on a potato i'm running it on an Alienware Aurora 4090, it should have more than enough power to handle this and Photoshop ran perfectly fine for months. Then just today it crashed and has never started up again.

Photoshop version 25.11

Help.

I'm not able to get Photoshop to run either, I've even tried the latest beta's.  It won't get past "Reading preferences..."

I've been facing the exact same issue. It's been several hours without resolution. I've tried resetting preferences, updating my cumulative OS Windows 10 22H2, and installing the latest NVIDIA drivers for my RTX 3090 graphics card. I've restarted my machine around six times and reinstalled Photoshop, the beta, and older versions multiple times. It always freezes at the "Reading preferences..." stage. It's been frustrating, and I've had to resort to using the web version.

I don't know what else to try...

I trie ddoing the recommended "Clean" application. Followd ll the instruction.s Nope.  I think something this sudden and this  widespread is likely an Adobe/Cloud conflict - not a local computer issue.

Two Mac systems here: neither will open; just hangs on start screen. Tried Beta/Regular - nope. Tried older versions - nope. Tried disconnecting from internet. Nope.

Dear supporting forum,

I am experiencing an issue with Adobe Photoshop where it consistently freezes during startup. The loading screen shows "Adding Extension... Halide Bottlenecks," and the application does not proceed beyond this point. This problem prevents me from accessing Photoshop and using its features.

Here are the steps I have already taken in an attempt to resolve the issue:

  1. Restarted Photoshop - Multiple times, but the issue persists.
  2. Reset Photoshop Preferences - Held down Alt + Control + Shift (Windows) while starting Photoshop to reset preferences to default.
  3. Disabled Third-Party Plugins - Moved all third-party plugins from the Plug-ins folder to a temporary location.
  4. Checked for Extension Updates - Ensured all plugins and extensions are up-to-date.
  5. Updated Photoshop - Confirmed that I am using the latest version of Photoshop.
  6. Renamed the UXP Folder - Renamed the UXP folder located in C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP\ (Windows).
  7. Reinstalled Photoshop - Uninstalled and reinstalled the application.
  8. Checked for System Updates - Made sure my operating system is up-to-date.

Despite these efforts, the issue remains unresolved. I would appreciate your assistance in identifying and fixing the problem. Below are my system details for your reference:

  • Operating System: macOs Monterey
  • Photoshop Version: 24
  • System Specifications: 16gb RAM,  2.5 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Please let me know if there are any additional steps I can take or if further information is needed.

Thank you for your support.

Same issue since late last night.  Did all the usual and suggested troubleshooting but nothing worked.  Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign freezing at splash screen.  On chat tech support for an hour the person finally told me it was an issue on their side.  This is what I was told:

"This is an on going issue in the application from our side, Please stay assured that the dedicated team is working towards resolving the issue as soon as possible. we request you to please wait for 4 hours but our team is trying to get it resolved as soon as possible."

In my particular case this has happened to me several times before with Photoshop when trying to open a file from Bridge. But I was always able to open Photoshop by clicking directly on executable or from Start menu.

The only beta app I have installed is for After Effects.  I will uninstall that now and report back if this helped.

YES! Uninstalling my beta of After Effects and Media Encoder worked.

I have tried everything in previous threads (ctrl + shift + alt) removing all the preference files and uninstalling / reinstalling the program countless times. this also goes for PS Beta (normal ps crashes reading preference files and beta crashes on reading brushes). When this happens it also crashes my machine.
I have a MSI Studio 17 with rtx 4090 32gb ram and latest intel chip so I doubt its a hardware problem. I run windows 11 home

I have been using photoshop since 2012 and have always managed to solve everything but I am now at whit's end.

I use the software daily for my work and have not had acces for the past few days

Actually that is all. I have tried every solution on the forum, installing/reinstall different version, remove settings/preferences, install driver updates/install system update.

When running  in any way (administrator too) shows window with picture and names, and after few seconds it freezes on Reading preferences. Doesn;t matter how long i wait it just takes 99% memory and crashes.

Merci infiniment !

Le problème venait bien des versions Béta installées. Je les ai toutes supprimées, et tout fonctionne correctement à présent !

Merci encore !
