P: Print dialog extremely slow to open/does not respond

Yes, I'm using the latest PS CC 2018 and the most up-to-date Win10.
Adobe Photoshop Version: 19.1.2 20180302.r.277 2018/03/02: 1160083  x64
Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
Version: 10 or greater 10.0.16299.15
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:12, Stepping:2 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, HyperThreading
Physical processor count: 6
Logical processor count: 12
Processor speed: 3331 MHz
Built-in memory: 24574 MB
Free memory: 10855 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 21907 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 70 %

I'm not using the print option in PS very often, but only every 10 days or so. So I don't know exactly with which update this issue was introduced... But about 4 weeks ago, everything worked just fine and since the latest 19.x updates it got screwed somewhere.

What happens?
Open a file, you can edit, create layers, zoom, modify, brush, whatever you want, everything works smoothly. Small files, large files, all kinds of formats (JPEG, TIFF, etc.) no problems.
BUT, as soon as you click on File/Print, the havoc starts!
The mouse cursor becomes slooooooow.... system becomes slow, even a browser window starts to slow down. The Windows Resource Monitor shows about 15-25% CPU utilization, but the Photoshop.exe PID gets a red entry; "Not Responding"  After about 15-25 seconds, the Print Dialog window finally appears. But every action in this window, results in another slow/stall behavior of my system. In fact the Print Dialog becomes unusable! Only when I click on 'Cancel', everything is back to normal again.

Done so far to check/verify:
-all other applications work fast and without any issues when printing! Even other Adobe s/w like AI, Acrobat, ID, etc. Also MS Office applications and other graphic software keep on working just fine with their printing dialogs/windows/features.
So it's a specific PS CC 2018 + Print only issue!
-Checked the Event Log files; but there is nothing logged about any PS issues. (?)

-I've even uninstalled PS CC 2018 from my system and cleaned up all remains, including appdata leftovers and all temporary garbage from PS. Reinstalled the latest PS CC 2018 from the CreativeCloud app; left PS CC 2018 with all its standard settings and just tried to print again.
No luck, problem with print dialog from PS CC 2018 is back immediately.
Then I set all my personal settings and performance enhancements within PS CC 2018; no change. GPU acceleration on/off; no difference. Scratch disks on/off/change; no difference.
Even reinstalled all my printer drivers; no difference. But as I mentioned before, ALL OTHER applications do print just fine! Only PS CC 2018 print function is unusable.

When searching for this issue on the www, I found this exact issue:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2411564
but no solution...

Anyone?

Which update? Windows 10, Photoshop or Graphic Driver? Certainly the latest Windows update has made no difference to the speed of the Print response on my computer.

Seems like fixed in last update!

I have AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. Hope Adobe can fix this "slow printer dialog issue" soon. I am running Win 10 64 bit on a brand new system, AMD Ryzen 7 1800X processor, 64GB RAM, Radeon Vega Frontier Edition GPU, Epson SP 9900 printer and software.

[Status update]

I have not updated yet to Win10 1803 release, but still running on the 1709 (Fall Creators Update)
BUT:
I got rid of the AMD graphics card (R9 270x 2GB), because of all the issues with it.
Although using the standard (older) Microsoft drivers does fix the 'slow print dialog' issues with PS CC 2018. It introduces the  Display driver AMD has stopped responding and has recovered  errors again. And the latest AMD driver gets rid of those errors, but introduces the slow-print-dialog issues.
How crazy is that?

I was able to get my hands on a Nvidia M2000 4GB graphics card (used) for a reasonable price. So I swapped cards.
And yes, the display driver (391.33) is stable now! No, I don't get any error messages anymore from either AMD or Nvidia has stopped responding and has recovered.
I have all Use Graphic Processor options enabled in PS CC 2018, including OpenCl.

Finally, the 'print-dialog-extremely-slow-to-open-does-not-respond'  issue is also gone! When I select the print option, the print dialog window appears <1 second. And all actions within the print dialog are instantly.

Tested so far with GPU acceleration and the Nvidia M2000 card/driver:
  • PTGui Pro; works very fast & ok with GPU acceleration
  • PS CC 2018; works great with GPU acceleration
  • AE CC 2018; works great with GPU acceleration
  • Adobe Camera Raw converter works ok with GPU acceleration.
  • Browsers like FF, Chrome, IE/Edge work ok with GPU acceleration
  • Testing with Furmark to stress the M2000; works stable/ok.
  • ColorMunki Display color calibration calibrates and loads .ICM profiles just fine on 2 x Dell U2711 screens.

I am having similar problems with Windows 10/CC2018/NVIDIA graphics card. 68 seconds from Print settings to the next screen and 67 seconds back to print screen. In desperation I reinstalled my old CS5.1. In CS5.1 it takes <10s to go to print settings and instantaneous to go back to Print. The answer for the moment seems to be edit in CC2018 and when you need to print, do it from CS 5.1

Jeff - Your instructions to get a process sample refer to Mac OS but most posters with the issue are using Windows.
Happy to help if you have an alternative method

Can anyone who has been suffering from this problem say if it still exists after installing Windows 10 April 2018 Update?
I noticed that my Colour Management display settings had been messed up with the upgrade, so I wondered if Microsoft had done some colour management work under the bonnet.
Fortunately for me, I haven't had the problem since changing my graphics card, so I couldn't say if the Windows update has helped.

Try getting a process sample when the Photoshop print dialog is showing and being slow: https://support.omnigroup.com/sample-osx/

Post the text file to dropbox or creative cloud to share.

I just realized that I am a few driver versions back, but not too far.

Win 7. QuadraK620 Driver is 369.39

This started with, I believe the last CC update before this current one.

It's not a deal breaker for me.

It's not necessarily an AMD issue or an nVidia problem, but I do think it's driver-related, as older drivers work just fine.
It's possibly related to newer versions of OpenCL/GL which come with all drivers.
It could even be Windows-related, as this all seemed to coincide with the latest Fall Creators Update, which necessitated AMD's new faulty driver.
I see no evidence to suggest that it's actually Adobe's fault.
