P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Working on MacBook Pro 2017 (8g memory) running Big Sur

@7008833 - That sounds like one of the cases we have fix for if you want to try the build.

@Shaun Kendall If you need to, going back to an earlier version is easy to do: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

As stated above, the program errors seen in 22.1 have been difficult to reproduce and track down - we've only been able to reproduce a couple of cases thanks to customers providing specific combinations of files and preferences. We're trying to track down some more reproducible cases through the this special build from engineering.

I've seen so many people having issues with v22.1. Maybe Adobe should think about recalling it and going back to an earlier version until they get these errors fixed or you might have a ton of angry customers on your hands. A lot of people (myself included) just have auto updates turned on and may take a while or not realize at all that the version has been updated and that's why they're getting errors.

@JeffreyTranberry

I am getting these consistently.

I can make it go away by deleting Adobe Photoshop 2021 Setting in AppData>Roaming>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop 2021. The issue is, if I change anything, even just the units of measurement, the issue returns. This is with a fresh install of all Adobe CC programs and the latest build of Windows 10.

I'm used lots of beta software in the past, and I'm happy to help try to solve this issue by loading a special build.

@emw @4772963 Marino and @7008833, yes, I understand folks on this thread are affected by this problem. I would like to know if you want to be added the prerelease program to try out a prerelease build and provide diagnostics?

Not being able to zoom in makes this close to useless- I can't see what I'm doing. I'm also getting more of the error I had in the previous version which is that stretching the window its in causes the image of the file to distort.
Please hurry up and fix this Adobe.

I had the same issue about 30 minutes ago. I had a group of layers within a folder, applied a drop shadow on that folder and when I tried to save, the error appeared. I turned off the drop shadow from the grouping and was able to save it just fine for some weird reason. I know it's very specific with a similar issue but I thought I should share it just in case.

I'm having the same issue! It just started two days ago. If I turn off layers some layers, it allows me to save. But that's not helpful since I'm working in conjunction with InDesign, trying to see the final file in my book. Or, if I change it to a 16 bit file, rather than an 8 bit file, it allows me to save. BUT, these aren't great alternatives. I'm on a Mac running Mojave. I'd gladly provide any other info that would be helpful in getting this issue resolved!
