P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Same problem here. Following this thread.

Note: I can still save my work if I hide the top layer/all the layers.

I have had the exact same issue. Sometimes if I restart photoshop it will work correctly for the first 1 or 2 saves. Otherwise I saw somewhere else that by unchecking all other layers, except the background, you can save. This has worked for me but is obviously annoying as all hell with files that have many layers. I hope this gets fixed.

I have the same Problem. I cannot save  file with PS Version 22.1

The error is the same when I try to save as jpg. Same error when I try to merge to background layer. The file is unusable with PS 22.1 😞

The only workaround is to deactivate layers until the file can be saved.

Same exact Problem here, since I updated to 2021, it won't let me save after using certain editing tools. Has anyone managed to find a solution that actually works? I tried changing the preferences and also giving it permission but it keeps happening.

a specific file won't save neither psd nor png "because of a program error". the same file when i open it, it become blank or black. when i try to zoom and wipe right, left, up and down it don't! NOTE: I USE THE LAST UPDATE OF ADOBE PHOTOSHOP (Creative Cloud) on mac.

Periodically I can't save my files or merge a layer whilst in 8bit mode. The error I receive says it "Could not save because of a program error." If I change the file to 16 bit, it will save, and I can then switch it back to 8bit mode and I can save it again. I don't know what causes this.

I am using a wacom cintiq tablet to draw with photoshop, the file sizes are large. 300 dpi, pixel sizes above 10k

Same here. How do I not lose  my work? What do I do. I tried it more than 30 times now and it's giving me the same error.
